Mark Knopfler actually wrote this song in 1982 about the Falklands war between Argentina and England. He rereleased it years later to raise money to take the surviving vets back there to commemorate the 25 anniversary
I played this song on April 5th at my dad’s funeral. He did two tours in Vietnam and awarded a Bronze Star . I loved your reaction and once a month something new is good with me
In this song, Mark Knopfler sings about a soldier who is dying on the battlefield, surrounded by his comrades, who remain by his side as he slips away. It's a look at the folly of war and the plight of those who fight them. "We've got just one world but we live in different ones," he told the BBC"Brothers in Arms" i It was written in 1982, the year of Britain's involvement in the Falklands War.
You're right, he's up there with Dave Gilmour Seeing Dire Straights live is unbelievable Its a song that is relevant today, which is sad, because there are wars going on
Virtually all Dire Straits songs were written solely by Mark Knopfler. The only exceptions are What's The Matter Baby from their Live at the BBC album which is credited to Mark and his brother David, Tunnel of Love which uses the Carousel Waltz by Rodgers and Hammerstein for the intro and Money For nothing which was written by Mark but includes Sting as co-writer because Mark used his tune from Don't Stand So Close To Me for the "I want my MTV" lines.
Great reaction, and you’re right. That video version of the song greatly edits both the intro and outro. That outro guitar solo on the album version does go to that next level and it’s powerful. Also, don’t sleep on Knopler’s solo work. Great stuff there, too.
Knopfler for me is one of the best fingerpick guitarists ever. His ability to almost make the guitar weep in this track makes the song and is perfect for the strong message the lyrics deliver.
Your channel, your rules! I personally like the idea. As a person who loves all genres of music, I would love it! We get the enjoyment of introducing you guys to stuff all the time, you should get that enjoyment as well.
I love this song! It's incredibly haunting. And I would love a once a month or so change up that you were talking about. What type of rock would be included in that? It's some enunciation, and the rest is I think his accent is heavier in this as well. I know you guys don't want to do it on the channel, but on your own, the Home Free Cover of this, although it doesn't beat the original, is pretty good. I was confused by the thumbnail because I couldn't imagine that you Keith didn't know this song!😊 The band Disturbed is absolutely amazing live! It was a fantastic concert.
I love this song a lot. I’m glad you reacted to it. I like the idea of mixing it up a little bit. Once a months sounds good. In the end it’s your channel and you can do what you want with it.
Nice reaction, I am sure that whether you change it up once a month or have a 'wild card wednesday' that it will be great, most of us are here because yall are a hoot. I enjoyed your discussion, it was nice to hear yall just chattering.
Mark Knopfler wrote this song. At the time the Falklands war was going on which prompted him to write about the struggles and sacrifices made by the participants of these conflicts.
The song was beautiful. I'm listening on my phone so I couldn't see the lyrics and couldn't understand them. I love multiple genres of music from gospel, Motown, blues, rock, country and jazz. But honestly I will watch you guys no matter what you react to. I'm drawn by the interaction of the two of you and your sense of humor as much as the music.
I am a Dire Straits fan as I am primarily a 70s & 80s rock fan. But this is Bourbon country reacts. I understand why a guitar geek would choose this song. But I come here to hear you guys react to country songs. I know many examples of great rock guitar solos I could suggest but you haven't even scratched the surface of country.. ¹
Wish you had done the live version of this one. Such a pleasure to watch him playing while singing. He really utilizes the volume knob to make the guitar sound more like a bow going across the strings than a “pluck” (since he doesn’t use a pick). Guys, it’s your channel. There are going to be tons of opinions with this just like pausing. I’m one that thinks pause as much as you want without apology. If I want to hear the song uninterrupted, I’m not going to go to a reaction channel. I can utilize this same app to find the original. Same thing if I see a song that I may not care for as much. People have the choice to click, or not to click on it. Do your thing and enjoy the musical journey. Take care.

Another great live version is from their On The Night album/dvd which includes exchanges between Mark on guitar and Paul Franklin playing pedal steel.

Bourbon Country reacts, reacts to Rock. You asked us to tell you what we think about you doing this once a month. IMHO it is your channel do what you want but if you do react to other music other than country I just ask you make sure it is a reaction not a review. Dustin not ever hearing this song counts as a reaction but there are a lot of "reaction channels" that will put first time reacting to ______ but they know the song it is just the first time they put it on their channel. I personally like watching reactions from someone who is being introduced to something they thought would never like and them realizing how good it is, but because it was genre X they never gave it a chance (I.E. hardcore Rock guys listing to Country). I don't mind you mixing it up every once in a while, I liked the Crazy Train break down you did too. So I have a song suggestion that I just looked up and then you put this out. Can I suggest Poor Boy Blues by Chet Atkins with Mark Knopfler. Even though I have heard his music for years I don’t always pay attention to people’s names so I would not have known who mark was before watching this channel, I was surprised how many videos there are of him with Chet Atkins.
Would love to hear you guys react to When My Train Pulls In by Gary Clark Jr. ANY version is amazing! To me he is a cross between BB King and Jimi Hendrix.

Great idea once a month here's your next one the jompson brothers song is on the run Chris stapleton is the lead singer soooo this could be classified as country
I would enjoy a reaction to a deep track from any genre 2-4 times a month. I grew up on rock. My brother played in a band that did everything from Baby Love by Mother's Finest to He Stopped Loving Her Today by George Jones. I heard a lot of 80's to 90's country, that was a lot like 70's soft rock. I realized music is music, it shouldn't be in categories. I now listen to every style of music. If I remember right, Knofler wrote this song about the Faulklands war. Home Free does a very moving version of this song. You may want to give it a listen off channel. Great Reaction. Keep up the great work.
Apparently I'm going to be the negative Nancy here. I want to say I couldn't hear the lyrics so I don't even know what the song is about. I listen/watch on my phone so itty-bitty screen. So I will hold my judgment of the song. It was very slow. I like your channel just the way it is. No offense but if I want to listen to rock, I would find another channel to follow that does those kinds of songs. There are so many country songs out there , you haven't even touched the surface really. But I don't like change. At all. Why change what works so well. I love our military and am very open to hear songs for/about/honoring them no matter what genre of music. I just don't want to hear rock. And I do like rock music. It's not that I don't. I just love this channel the way it is.
If I had to come up with a mission name for this idea Id call it operation new coke.A compromise would be if you had to play that famous John Michael Montgomery song you guys hate each time you change so drastically. But the aftermath discussion was a lot better than the song.Maybe a off the reservation. section in the playlist.
The guitar work was nice, but I wasn't picking up the lyrics. Good music is good music regardless of genre. I am here for the entertainment of watching your country journey, but a little branching out would probably be interesting. I always avoided listening to Jelly Roll, but I have found the country music he is putting out has some very deep messages, so ya just never know what might be outside of the box you are sitting in. Even after watching all of these episodes of bourbon tasting, I have yet to try any. LOL!
I like the country. Way too many that you have not reacted to. I can get these from anyone. Sorry even though I have heard this and like it not what I am looking for in your channel.
I began watching you because of “country”. I have never liked “hard rock or metal”, as it’s almost impossible to hear the words and the “music” is usually to loud. So I will watch your “country reacts”, but not the other.
Well, some of their songs are, John Anderson actualy covered "When it comes to you" wich is a Dire Straits song and there are many more Dire Straits song with country elements

But I don't like change. At all. Why change what works so well.
I love our military and am very open to hear songs for/about/honoring them no matter what genre of music. I just don't want to hear rock. And I do like rock music. It's not that I don't. I just love this channel the way it is.
very well said
If I had to come up with a mission name for this idea Id call it operation new coke.A compromise would be if you had to play that famous John Michael Montgomery song you guys hate each time you change so drastically. But the aftermath discussion was a lot better than the song.Maybe a off the reservation. section in the playlist.
Good song but guitars Crying to cause me to tear up
Me too!!!
Maybe do a comparison reaction to Home Free's cover.
There's no comparison!!! Mark Knofler is a beast!!!
LOL!
Do some frickin SRV
SRV is one of my favorite guitar players of all time. So, I've heard a lot of his stuff, lots of times, and, well, it's not really country. - Keith
I'm interested in hearing new music, but this one didn't do it for me. Loved the instrumentals but really couldn't hear the lyrics.
La chitarra di Mark non suona , ma Canta !!!
BLASPHEMERS! 😂
Ha!
I like the country. Way too many that you have not reacted to. I can get these from anyone. Sorry even though I have heard this and like it not what I am looking for in your channel.
Why once a month? Y’all upload multiple times a week. Do it twice a month. And take turns.
I don't like this idea. But you can do as you please. It is your channel.
When's the Taylor Swift POP reaction vid coming??? Hahaha
Oh wow... mmm... probably never? - Keith
why do you all think Dire Straits is Country??? It is soooooooooo British Rock Band!!!!
Didn't get a word
I began watching you because of “country”. I have never liked “hard rock or metal”, as it’s almost impossible to hear the words and the “music” is usually to loud. So I will watch your “country reacts”, but not the other.
The Home Free cover stinks..🤮
dire straits country??????????????????????????????????????????????
Of course not. - Keith
Well, some of their songs are, John Anderson actualy covered "When it comes to you" wich is a Dire Straits song and there are many more Dire Straits song with country elements
The Bug was covered by Mary Chapin Carpenter too. Keith Urban used to play Sultans of Swing back in his busking days.
@@BourbonCountryReacts have you checked out Mark Knopfler's All The Road Running and Real Live Roadrunning albums that he made with Emmylou Harris?
Sailing to Philadelphia about the men who mapped the Mason-Dixon line with Mark singing as Dixon and James Taylor as Mason is also well worth a listen.
Then there's Mark's other band, The Notting Hillbillies, and their Missing... Presumed Having a Good Time album, which is country-oriented.
@@jjc5407 I didn't know "the bug" was a dire stait song. I have only ever heard Mary's version. I will have to check that out.
Home Free version is better
I know you won't play HomeFree's version because you don't know how to appreciate Accapella. You're a bit of a snob towards Accapella 😢
I don't think it's a capella as a whole. Just Home Free. And I tend to agree with them. Lol. But to each their own!
Just Home Free. - Keith
Well I must say you are missing out, as HomeFree has millions of subscribers, like I said Keith You are a Snob. It's your show so I will let it be.
@@sarahberke7194 I think she is a Homefry
@@BourbonCountryReacts it was nice to find I wasn't the only one. I have listened to different things that they have done, and I just don't get the fascination with what they do. It's nice they have such a loyal following. Everybody has their own likes and dislikes.
