Now that I am thinking about it: Mark is number one at my list of guitar playing, lead-singing and composer of the songs.

Funny thing is a lot of it is subjective, I prefer Slash to Buckethead for example, and dgaf if BH is better technically, it's about the feel of it. "Another level", smfh.
a musical period where people still thought about how a song was written and performed. Nowadays it's usually at the touch of a button and they have a tune.

A masterpiece no other word to describe it
I was at this concert in '86 & one of my favourite bands of all time. Dire Straits are one of the only bands that sound better live than studio recorded. The live Alchemy album is testament to this. I don't think we will ever see bands like this again.
If you were there, you can pass away in peace.

Gutair used was a Chet Atkins Special . Mark knopfler had the teachings of the master Chet Atkins (RIP).

When you've watched a few of these you'll start to notice be never seems to play the songs the same way twice. He throws in slight (and sometimes big) changes, just for his own amusement.

Dire Straits is indeed live always better than at the studioversions.
Mark is a genius! I went to 2 of their concerts in the 90ies and one soloconcert. 3 of the most beautiful days of my life.

The brothers in arms tour 85.Thirteen nights in July at Wembley Arena with Live Aid in the middle on the 13th.Was at both,saw Dire Straits on the 14th great band, great show, back when you could get tickets for a gig at the box office ☘

in essence it+s a Philip Marlowe story in music. mark is certainly a top 10 guitarist and it takes someone of that caliber to not just play the music but channel the emotion .

You like absolute perfection in a live performance? Then you should give a chance to yourself and listen to Alchemy Live. They placed the excellence bar so high that only very few bands, if any at all, got to the same level.
You should also listen to Telegraph road live version, great gitar playing and piano also, great lyrics
