  • The 2025 Ford E-Transit Custom is out to redefine what a mid-size van is. As it name suggests, it's a new fully electric version of the second-generation Transit Custom, which is also on its way to Australia in a more traditional diesel form.
Either way, the E-Transit Custom is getting in earlier, with zero-emissions load haulers still in their infancy locally. That said, one other newcomer, the LDV eDeliver 7, is ready to duke it out. Good thing, then, that the Ford is coming armed with a 160kW/415Nm rear-mounted electric motor and a 74kWh battery pack that delivers a claimed driving range of 380km.
In this expert review, CarsGuide Contributing Journalist Byron Mathioudakis travels to Germany to get an early taste of the E-Transit Custom before it arrives in Australian showrooms by the end of this year. So, will it be worth the wait? The answer is very likely to surprise you...

I can’t believe that Ford dropped the ball with the load carrying capacity (1,011kg). If they just made it 995kg like the Rangers then it would have been available via a salary sacrifice arrangement

But doesn’t it have to be over 1000kg to be classed as a CV and therefore qualify for VAT reclaim.

The Battery capacity and range in the description doesn't match what you say in the video: 64kWh Capacity and 308km Range.
It's weird how Ford quietly downgraded the announced capacity and range, but not a single media outlet is talking about that.

yeah they quietly took the range figures off the website. I feel like 380 was already too low. it casts a big shadow so its an uphill battle against drag.

@@katelights It depends on use cases, some will still be better off with diesel. There seems to be some assumption on the internet that people have their vans fully laden. Some people carry around balloons.

I flagged this months ago about the original 380 km range AND 74 kwh available battery announced back in 2022. So now 64kWh available from an 82 kWh pack!!! Ford must not want this pack to be actually charged over 80% or discharged below 20%. I was really interested in this van cos it had a lot going for it but no chance now with 308km. The older Peugeot Expert will beat it on range now increased to 350km.

The price is a joke , you can’t sell it after 3 years , the best thing about it ,is the 15k vat the government earn ,my last van was 15k including the vat

so the real range is maybe 220 miles... £75000 if your job is one man and a helper and you earn less than £50,300 a year, because above this amount you are eaten by taxes, it means you live in a tent😂😂😂... earnings are alms in the UK, house prices are beyond your means, if you fall into the spiral of renting anything, you will never save for your own place...
