  • For this video I am reviewing the Seiko SPB147 (copper dial diver). Combined with a jubilee bracelet, I think it makes an excellent vintage-inspired everyday sports watch.

    Just got one of these. I have an SPB143 with the gray dial, but this looks like a completely different watch. The gilt markers and hands really step it up and it looks far more dressy and expensive than the "standard" model. The silicone strap and hardware is also excellent and comfortable, but this watch is begging for a z199 bracelet from Uncle Seiko. I paid $700 for mine new. Super happy with it. I think it will be my new daily wear watch because it goes with everything and can be worn on any occasion.

    I almost bought the BB58 but find it too light for my liking and the SPB147 arrived today, totally in love with it and I know I have have made the right decision. Nice review by the way.

    I love this watch, it would be even better if it was a gmt . A brown leather strap would feel totally vintage.

    I picked one up from the used display at a local watch shop. I got it for what I believe to be a killer price of $300. The only visible blemish is a very small mark on the crown. It runs great, looks fantastic, and on the Seiko rubber strap is far more comfortable on my wrist than I imagined it would be

    Nice review. I usually don’t like “faux-tina” lume… but I agree with you it suits the watch. Well done. 👏🏻 👏🏻 👏🏻

    Awesome intro and spinning bezel shot. Cool watch, I like the gilt hands, that dial and hands definitely add some character. I myself won't buy another Seiko, just not supporting a company that doesn't do even basic QC, but I can see the appeal.

    Great editing work. I agree that it should be priced lower for a 6r movement. I just don't like the thickness of this watch personally, but it does look good on the wrist. I did consider this one along with the spb143, but for around the same price, the MarineMaster 200 reduced (SPB185 and SPB187) look much better in my opinion. A lot of reviews on this watch have pointed out that there is a really annoying gap in between the lugs on the original steel bracelet, which would drive me nuts.

  • @NicholasSadlier
    @NicholasSadlier Před 2 lety +5

    Very nice looking watch. I agree that at this price point Seiko should start using a higher calibre movement... with a higher beat rate. No idea why Seiko bezels frequently don't line up as Japanese engineering in general is usually extremely precise.

    Purchased another as a re-buy due to the terrible movement but the aesthetics out way the terrible movement so I'll keep this one for now as I've accepted I don't own any automatic watches for their accurate time keeping.

    Thank you for another great review. I've owned the Seiko SPB147 for about 1 month now and its quickly become my favorite watch; I can't stop looking at it. I like the silicone strap it came with. I've also been trying to pair it with a nylon strap but no luck yet. Can you tell me where you purchased the strap in the video (grey with blue piping and orange thread). I think you did a great job pairing the watch and strap. Thank you

      Thanks for the feedback. The NATO in the video was purchased from the microbrand Orion watches. You can check their website for straps, or Strap Mill Canada offers a similar grey and blue NATO on their website.

  • @marshallh9

    Have this watch and tempted to buy the strapcode bracelet. The movement is disappointing, especially in this price bracket. After alot of hit and miss regulating on a timegrapher, due to the extreme positional variation, I have managed to get the watch running on the wrist at about +/- 1 second/day. At night the watch must be face up. I hope it stays this way! I really like seiko watches but due to the poor QC and indifferent movements, for the money, I am loathe to buy any more.

    • @wendyandgeoffpattison2610
      @wendyandgeoffpattison2610 Před rokem +2

      Do you realise that even $40,000 mechanical automatic watches don't give any better accuracy than +/- 2seconds per day. You can't expect perfect timekeeping from a mechanical watch, it depends so much on temperature, orientation, proximity to magnetic fields, even radiation has an effect. I think we all need to lighten up a little.

  • @theenavybluemonster
    @theenavybluemonster Před 2 lety +6

    All watches are overpriced not just Seiko. So with the way watches are being priced, their watches are priced fairly instead of the value proposition they once were when they were underpriced back in the “golden age” of Seiko pricing.

    • @pixilladesigns1
      @pixilladesigns1 Před rokem

      I don't disagree except let's bear in mind that pricing is market driven. If buyers don't perceive value - and don't buy - then manufacturers would lower prices. Prices are just high for a lot of watches but clearly buyers are buying, which continues to drive pricing. Terms like "overpriced" and "fair pricing" are relative. To wealthier buyers these mean nothing.

    But I assume it's diashield on watch case, so does the bracelet look like a different colour under different lighting? I can't notice in the clip.

    Jubilee is for dresswatches such as Datejust etc, not sportwatches. Oyster or rubber is the way to go on divers in my opinion.

    Is there any good source for how to correctly realign the bezel to exactly hit the 12 o'clock marker? I remember a quite technical source, you had to take the whole thing apart and cut the length of metal wire teeth then fit everything back again, one mistake and you redo it all again.

    • @EverydayWatchGuy
      @EverydayWatchGuy  Před 2 lety

      Most Seiko bezel's you can back-turn it a bit to get better alignment. You can also disassemble the bezel, as you mentioned. The best advice I can give is trying on the Seiko diver in-person at an AD, so you can see the alignment before purchasing.
