- Its finally here! my long awaited mario movie review. this one was a doozy and hopefully my last illumination video for a few months. (i talk about them a lot)
overall i enjoyed the mario movie and explained why i think illumination was the perfect match and would have had the best outcome from a studio. but its also far from a masterpiece.

My only complaint with this movie was that Luigi didn't get enough screentime. Even though the movie is called _The Super Mario Bros. Movie,_ Luigi got sidelined pretty hard. He should've had his own B plot or something. He deserved better in this movie.
He had a realization at some point in the film that he never gave Mario a reach around for the times that he stood up for him, leading to him rescuing Mario in the fight against Bowser and working together with him.
I don’t have any flaws with The Super Mario Bros Movie I think this movie is perfect the way it is

Facts! He could've had a B plot where he rallies up the other prisoners (and Toad) to save Peach from the wedding. He could even use the ice flower.
I absolutely love how Kamek was done in the movie. The voice acting for him was perfect, his expressions and synergy with Bowser is perfect, it’s just great. I love especially the one scene when Bowser uses his one-liner on peach only for it to not work and Kamek responds with a “doing great” with just a thumbs up from the corner of the screen which really felt like a father giving his son validation and is completely in character for Kamek who was Bowser’s father figure.

I'm so thankful Illumination hired an actual voice actor to voice Kamek. Kevin Michael Richardson nailed him PERFECTLY.
Kevin Michael Richardson usually voices characters with deep voices, and his performance as Kamek was such a great surprise.

Illumination may have its pros cand cons but one thing they never miss is how beautiful thier animation looks and the mario movie took full advantage of that cause it looked amazing
This movie was so adorable, and I love Mario and Luigi’s relationship but- I feel like Luigi could of got a little more screen time.

Indeed, the sequel will likely give him more screen time and fix other issues, and if rumors are true, there might even be a Luigi's Mansion spin-off movie in the future, so that'll be even cooler.

I love the color palette in the Mario movie and the design’s too
For how long it's been since the last Mario film and how it's recieved the film plays it safe which isn't a huge problem but for a 1st film playing it safe was the right move. The cast looking back at the announcement is interesting. Jack Black and Charlie Day are perfectly casted but Pratt as Mario is interesting and odd on paper but in execution it's I would say good. I love this film but will admit it has problems granted for me they're small problems. The soundtrack might be my absolute favorite Video game adaptation soundtrack

EXACTLY. I honestly had a great time with this movie, one of my favorite movie experiences. It’s not deep at all, but I love it. 7/10 movie, it wasn’t any better than I thought it would be

I love how literally no one mentions how this is the first time we've seen peach use an ice flower and donkey kong use any mario power-up (a fire flower, to be specific.)

I see The Mario Movie as something similar to Alice in Wonderland. While It's not focused on a strong story, it's mostly about being simple and colorful, with Wacky sequences, memorable characters, and an overall Jolly Good Time.

Ah, so I see you're a man of culture as well. While Illumination wasn't my first pick to produce this movie, I do think they're the right fit. This studio deserves more credit, respect and love than what people make of it. Besides, I think the minions are hilarious! Despicble Me 2 is probably their best film imo. I don't think I would choose them to do a Zelda movie, but if they do, I want to see them expand their horizons and do something truly epic!
Illumination has never really been a bad studio. I honestly don’t get why they get so much hate when Disney and even Dreamworks have put out very mid-straight garbage movies in the past in their arsenal.

I like this movie a lot, it has flaws like having no depth and being way too fast paced. If this movie had 10 or 20 extra minutes to just chill it could’ve been a masterpiece but for now it’s a fun time for kids and adults with pretty animation, great music. Tons of nice references, great voice acting, and a good batch of jokes

I know that the pacing could feel a bit too quick 4 sum and the story could be somewhat “lacking”, but that’s kind of the whole point. A Mario Movie isn’t really supposed 2 have this weird Shakespearean poetry attached 2 it, it’s just supposed 2 be an awesome fun time.

I think the only flaws are the lack of depth and emotion, and the pacing as I mentioned before. I still think the movie is very good and am super excited to see a franchise come from it. I just think the first outing is somewhat flawed even if the strengths outnumber it by a pretty good bit

Everything when it comes to debate is all opinion-based, not factual-based. I still consider it a masterpiece because it was a non-stop awesome time and a movie that I’ve waited 4 my entire life. There were tons of emotional moments with Mario/Luigi, and Mario/Peach. It’s trying 2 introduce the casual audience 2 the world of Mario, and it did it perfectly in my opinion. I love Illumination movies, but this one is by far my favorite one. Hopefully Despicable Me 4, Pets 3, and Sing 3 will be incredible as well.

I actually kind of like the detail I was the boss battle ending quickly because that’s kind of what it felt like to me when I play the games they end kinda soon in my opinion so this actually felt canon

I don't think people are hating on this movie, they're just addressing the issues, even the critics on RT, as someone who's looked into the reviews, most of them don't hate this movie, it just has issues.

Long story short, if this wasn't a Mario movie, this would've been something else.
I suppose we all want to know more of Peach's backstory of learning how she got to know much of the world she grew up, Donkey Kong embarassing his family with his ego, and how Bowser was crazily infatuated about Peach, by obtaining power-ups of offering a chance to win her heart.
Mario and Luigi can still be in the film, if there's enough to dedicate the older brother finding his missing younger fraternal brother in the dark woods, before the short mustachio plumber claims that he needs the princesses' help.

The pacing part i agree on, the movie felt like 50 mins but it was actually 1 hour and a half
The dog scene was more likely a reference to miyamoto’s story about how he created chain chomp
I can't wait for the inevitable day this movie comes out on Netflix. It will become one of my most watched movies as a massive Mario fan. Seeing all the Easter eggs in the theater was like such a fun scavenger hunt. May not have been the best movie objectively, but as a movie for Mario fans, it's pretty damn impressive. Really hope the literal insane commercial success means a sequel!

Imo, the ending should've been more action packed (not saying that it isn't already action packed), like what if Bowser fell in the lava while mario was trying to stop the bullet bill from hitting the castle, and as bowser became dry bowser, everyone made it to earth, and the earth became hell.
That would’ve been way too dark. I think Bowser should’ve turned into Giga Bowser. That would’ve been cool.

I'm completely okay with the quick pacing, nothing feels drawn out at all, its really fun, its pretty, music is amazing, and Luigi is hot, literally my favorite movie ever

I really didn’t mind the fast pacing of this movie
The little enemy and character easter eggs I absolutely love like the Bramballs when Mario and Toad first start walking to the Mushroom Kingdom since the enemy’s design is really fun but they only showed up in a single Mario game for like a single world.
I got to see King Bob-Omb on the big screen, that genuinely made the whole movie worth it for me.
I was hoping we got a B plot with Luigi like he talks to the prisoners and motivates them into trying to escape. Also I wanna know why there's a Luma there.

I agree with you. I feel the movie was a bit to fast, and I personally think that Peaches acting was a bit trashy, but the animation OH MY GOD. As an Animator myself, I have massive respect for the people who animated this. Puss and boots two is still my favorite animation movie, but this is still very high on my list. I love your channel, keep being awesome.

It's my favorite video game movie because it just felt like an actual Mario movie and not have it go some route where it's video game characters going to the real world or some weird gritty apocalyptic movie where the powerups are drugs.

12/10! Absolute gorgeous masterpiece. Beyond platinum diamond melted golden gem of a film. *EVERYTHING* from the characters, the atmosphere, the score, the realistic dialogue, the hype and epicness, to Mario and Luigi’s damn perfect characters development of brotherly love. Especially the part when Mario feed hopeless and has nobody else to comfort him, then Luigi comes in and decides to cheer him up and tell him everything is alright. That is seriously some Sopranos stuff that I was not expecting, considering I have my own sibling. I have never felt so satisfied and speechless of an animated feature film since PIB: TLW. Gorgeous gem platinum diamond sparkle melted gold a film!

Okay I agree that the pacing and transitions are fast and rushed but tbh that’s kind of how the games are. And I loved it. It felt like playing one of the games. Toad has no reason to like you but I’ll be damned if he’s not gonna build u the best contraption he can. Rosalina has not a clue who you are but immediately gives you her most precious child to save peach. And maybe that doesn’t work well for a movie but it worked PERFECTLY for me bc it felt exactly like sitting at home playing a Mario brothers game

My main three movies I’d want after this, other than the obvious sequel, are Luigi’s Mansion, Legend of Zelda, and Metroid although something like Metroid would probably be better with a different studio than Illumination like maybe DreamWorks
I was more hyped for this movie than avengers end game, that's how much the Mario franchise has done.

No there not, they're just comparing it to other family animated movies, I've seen the reviews myself and from what I've read, most of them didn't hate it, they actually enjoyed it(well, most of them that is), they're just pointing out the issues that the movie has.
Im glad people enjoyed it, but even as a fan of mario i just couldn't get into it. However i am glad that video game adaptions are getting better.
