Fitting that Yo-Kai Watch is representing diapers in the SpongeBob bit because Yo-Kai Watch is THE SHIT because of how good it is.
Man speaks the truth. Even as a life long Pokémon fan, Yo Kai Watch and Blasters does more then most of the main line Pokemon games.
Need to play that series eventually.
I still have Shin Megami Tensei games to be beaten now that the PS1 version of SMT I finally gotten an English Patch.
Yokai Watch taught me a lot of things. One: what substantial gameplay means. Two: that it lose to Pokemon in popularity yet die factually correct. Three: that there are inherit fallacies when it comes to comparisons.
Let's be real, Yokai Watch and Pokemon are about as the same as Pokemon and Shin Megami Tensei. Unfortunately, ignorant people made ignorant claims and we now live in a dark era.
Yokai watch fans have been eating good for years while Pokemon fans have been starving for longer and I find that hilarious.

At least he doesn't seem to play alot of turn based games that have actual depth like Monster Sanctuary or Shin Megami Tensei.
Mario & Luigi RPG isn't really an RPG I would call turn based. I would sooner call that a rhythm game.

The moral of the story is correct. As a Pokemon and Yo-Kai Watch fan, I want Pokemon to make innovations at the level Yo-Kai Watch has. I mean, Yo-Kai Watch 2 is better Yo-Kai Watch 1 combat wise, but Yo-Kai Watch 3 has the 3x3 grid system. It's amazing

Seriously, people who want all of these things out of a Pokemon game should set their loyalty to the franchise aside and play Yo-kai Watch titles. They have what they're looking for, even the first game, which doesn't have as much as what would come after it.

whenever i tell people that Yo-kai Watch had the potential to be as popular as Pokemon in the west, stuff like this makes me think that speculation was actually true and just keeps proving itself to be true as time passes
I just looked up Yo-Kai Watch on a whim because I wanted to see if there was new content on the series in English after all these years. I considered myself pleased and a subscriber.
And yet somehow Yo Kai watch 4 never got localized.... So we are not able to play an actual translated game with translated names and a story and not just an interpretation of the story

There's nothing wrong with comparing games that share a genre.
When you compare Donkey Kong Country to Crash Bandicoot, no one cares.
When you compare Monster Hunter to Yo-Kai Watch Busters, no one cares.
It's only when you compare Pokemon to the vast amount of better monster collectors that it becomes an imaginary problem.
The ones that take issue with this at all are just anyone that is non-Japanese since the Japanese have always had zero issue playing other monster collectors as opposed to western Pokemon fans that treat their brand loyalty like some kind of cult and are reductive to anything else just for not being exactly like Pokemon for one reason or another.
Also criticism isn't hatred because if you hated it, you wouldn't be offering ideas to make the game better. If you ACTUALLY hate a piece of media, you express that by being indifferent and not giving it the time of day. Like how when Charlie's Angels and Sonic the Hedgehog movies came out around the same time. Everyone loved Sonic by going to see it, talked about it and gave it money while everyone hated Charlie's Angels and expressed that by NOT seeing it, NOT giving it money and NOT talking about it.
It saddens me that larger creators will never see the truth.

That's not really the point that was being made at all. It's more that Pokemon's turn based system sucks especially when you look at OTHER games that use a turn based system like Dragon Quest Monsters or Monsters Hunter Stories which arguably maintain a WAY stronger illusion of the combat despite being turn based.
Having studied competitive Pokemon for well over a decade, the formats are honestly a complete joke. It's a slow as molasses, horribly unbalanced mess that heavily rewards luck and strongly relies on band-aid solutions like Smogon rulesets to get ANY actual skill out of it.
Also, wanting it to play like the anime which many love for its fast paced shounen action is not dumb at all. Yo-Kai Watch Busters plays alpt like you would expect Pokemon anime to and it's a fact paced test of skill.
In short, it's not that BEING turn based is the issue. It's that Pokemon's turn based system SUCKS so hard compared to other turn based systems.

Literally everything I did was use the weapon, most of the spells are absolutely unnecessary and u can beat the game with Heal and weapons, thats pretty much it.
Plus if we talk about balance, enemies have brutal hits, the player doesnt. There is a fkin spell thats literally called "chance" lmao. Theres even a spell thats basically an OHKO move, wonder where Gamefreak took Fissure, Sheer Cold, Guillotine and Horn Drill from...
Overall I think DQ playthroughs have a way better difficulty and actually test the player's resource management. In Pokemon, as soon as you know what youre doing, you dont even need to use potions in battle nor equip items.
Basically DQ was made with the purpose of bringing RPGs to a wider audience and Pokemon was basically DQ multiplied by 10 (in terms of its purpose)
So the Pokemon fans want a Yo-kai Watch game that just happens to have Pokemon in it?

@@JellyJiggler7 Make sure you have a big SD card too. YKW3 is so packed with content that it takes up way more memory than the 4GB SD card the 3DS comes with will be able to fit.
What i don't like about youtubers like them sometime is that they don't offer better options or other games. Promotion online is now everything and i wish they show support for indie devs because critique can only do so much before the yelling become white noise.
Shining a spotlight on an indie dev is really a win-win, now that you point that out. The reviewer gets to use an example of another game and point out how it was designed to express their arguments more clearly and the indie dev gets free advertising.
Real time yokai watch arlo radicalsoda and dunkey: nobody caaaaaaaaaresssss nobody caaaaaaaaaressss. when game freak make a real time pokemon game in 2032 and yokai watch dies completely because a lack of HD port and a lack of attention in the US. radicalsoda arlo and dunkey : like this original and never been done before pokemon rpg.
I'm a Pokemon fan and a Yokai Watch fan. While Pokemon dipped in quality, i was eating some good shit with Yokai Watch. I'm not the best at the games, but I would do everything I could because there was so much to love. Yokai Watch 3 has so much content that I'm still finishing it 4 years later (mostly cause I don't know where the other side quests are and I haven't found a good guide to refer to).
Try using Google Translate and the gamepedia Japanese database sites. There's a ton of well documented guides and information for Yo-Kai Watch 3 that helped me alot on that site. Hope you enjoy playing more YKW3!!!

To be perfectly fair, I don’t think most of these Content creators know YoKai watch even exist. (especially dunkey, he probably would like the game but considering it’s an RPG franchise, he probably wouldn’t touch it)
Hell I was aware at least the first two games I wasn’t aware of these other spinoffs that play like that.
It doesn't really matter if they do or not. Not to me anyway. Personal incredulity is unimportant especially with the stereotypical Nintendo fan that refuses to play or try other games. Dunkey has played Persona and SMT and loves those so I think Dunkey just struggles with finding the kind of RPG he prefers just like anyone that tries new games can be unsure of what they may or may not want until they play other stuff. The point still stands that what they are asking for or wishing so hard for from Pokemon is something that already exists.
To be fair, the game's marketing was mainly directed towards kids in the U.S and even then it was shit, and is mostly popular with the Japanese. Wouldn't hurt them to actually play the fucking game, y'know?
Sure yokai watch has its flaws however you can still have fun have a challenge replay value tons of lore and many more. I had to get all 400 pokemon in sword and shield just to feel something. But in yokai watch the challenge the fun the designs and busters keeps me coming back.

Personally I just don't find the Yokai watch aesthetic appealing.
And I get it, good gameplay trumps visuals, but whenever I look at the games I don't see awesome looking animals fighting, I see derpy looking chibi people.
Now I will grant I've never looked deeper really. I can accept I'm wrong on this.
But what I want is a Pokemon game that does these things, not just another action game where I play as humanoids
@@Joziah3 Yeah, that kind of thing is really a matter of preference.
I personally have next to no issue woth Mr. Mime, Jynx or Machamp like other people tend to and it also retains my immersion that the Yo-Kai have far more persinality.
Besides, there are plenty of animalistic Yo-Kai if you look through the monster count no differently from an impatient Pokemon fan looks through Sun and Moon's monster count via illegal data leaks before the game even released. When I did that, some of my personal favorites that drew me in were a mosquito and a seiryuu. Ya certainly can't call those humanoid. Charming Tribe alone is abundant in cats and komainu. Ironic you bring that up since so many complaints with recent Pokemon games involved humanoids lol. Not to mention there is not really grounds to say Pokemon is animalistic when we had Koffing in Kanto and Garganacl in Paldea.

My main point is that even if Yokai Watch is technically all those things, what I really want is a *Pokemon* game that does those things. Because I grew up with it, I'm attached to my pokemon and want to watch them have battles like in the anime, etc.
I've watched many a Pokemon fangame discard it's pokemon theme to avoid lawsuit and fall into almost total irrelevance. The world of pokemon is just as important to us shallow gamers as the actual gameplay.
And I do think new Pokemon designs-Starters particularly- trend too far towards humanoid... I think it's a side effect of the human themes being pushed on them, a wrestler, a singer, an archer, etc. A glance at the Yokai Watch dex carries a lot of those to me. Helmsman, Pandy, Tattletell, Cuttanah is a chibi sword with arms and legs... The style just doesn't appeal to me.
I think the issue I have at a glance with Yokai Watch is actually the same issue I have with the new starter designs. It's a monster but they're all very 'human' monsters.
My favourite pokemon are ones like Zigzagoon, Espeon, Umbreon, Pikachu, Snivy, Bulbasaur, Torterra, etc. Even if there's Yokai that could fill those same roles (electric rodent for example), I would still be sad that I can't play with those Pokemon specifically because I'm attached to them.
Although I will say Palworld struck closer than most did for me, so perhaps it's merely a matter of art style.
Oh, and all the cat ones like Jibanyan and Shogunyan fall into the same category of humanoid chibi for me.

@@Joziah3I grew up with Pokemon too but I don't let my nostalgia dictate everything and keep me from enjoying or playing new things. If nostalgia was all it came down to, I would only play Dragon Quest's monster collectors because tons of Pokemon's game design and Kanto monster designs came from the nostalgia the devs had for Dragon Quest among other things. Not to mention, Pokemon kinda teaches you the value of going on new adventures to make new discoveries and new friends. I guess I should actually apply that lesson to other games.
@@DrCoeloCephalo I think you're misunderstanding me. It's not all nostalgia, I play and enjoy a lot of action games (ni no kuni as an example that has a bit of that pokemon flair) but Yokai Watch doesn't interest me.
I'm just giving my surface level idea of why. I don't have a definitive reason, maybe the appropriate advertisements never reached me.

I was the one who commented that about a year ago. I later removed the comment when I saw it getting pinned because while I still stand by a lot of the arguments (although I can't say for sure on some of them, as I am not as familiar with Pokémon as I am with Yo-kai Watch), I thought that the way I aproached it gave off an arrogant vibe of talking down Pokémon and its fans as inferior, wich wasn't the intention. I also thought that Zion pinning my comment only further reinforced this arrogant vibe, as I just came back from seeing his questionable behavior towards people who trash talk Yo-kai Watch
@guthou2010 Well when you say it like that it does make a arrogant vibe well I don't think pokemon fans are infer to yokai watch fans but I do think they should strive for more in pokemon games. Like master wu said from Lego ninjago "iron sharpens iron". But since pokemon is at a such higher pedestal then most of the pocket monster genre its hard to improve since there's no challenge we're there at right now so it's up yo the fans if they want pokemon to really change not a insult just a observation.

J3P is a game with better animation, far more monsters in a single game, every monster is ridable, was able to scale the monster model sizes on a 3DS, far more skill customization for monsters and has far more content and challenge despite being a game younger audiences can get into. Pretty good counterexample of how Pokemon is lacking as an RPG.
@@DrCoeloCephalo it's more that other DQM games are better, since J3P uses quite a lot of recolors and removes a lot of monsters from the previous games (obviously for redone models with new animations since reused DQ8 animations aren't gonna cut it but it's still a big disappointment). Some people even argue J3 is better than Pro since it's more balanced.
As a Pokemon fan this is the reason why I hate Pokemon fan do these people even play other creature collecting games like Digimon, Tem Tem, Yo-kai Watch, Monster Hunter stories and when the game is exactly what they want they just let the series die poor Yo-kai Watch. I might not be a Yo-kai Watch fan but i did like the Anime, I do hope Yo-kai Watch series come back for you Yo-kai watch fan someday.

The point is that the fantasy he's going on about wishing and dreaming for already exists. He gushes iver the idea of playing a monster collector in 3D real time when games like Yo-Kai Watch have been innovating on and improving that very idea for years. He's not saying turn based is worse than real time. Just that he dreams of playing real time. You are absolutely correct that it would ideal that Pokemon games should be just as good if not better than Yo-Kai Watch games. However, just because a series is different, it doesn't mean it can't be better especially if they fall within the same genre. Both Pokemon and Yo-Kai Watch are monster collectors. Wario Land 4 is a platformer game with an entire book written about it in terms of its good game design. The highly successful recently released platformer game Pizza Tower only accentuating and innovating on that good game design. Sonic the Hedgehog 2006 is also a platformer game. It was rushed to meet Christmas release on top of having some hiccups behind the scenes. As a result, you are left with a glitchy, unoptimized mess with chugging frames, terrible physics and infamously long loading times that could have been spent actually playing the game or even a better game. The only platformer that comes close to being worse is Sonic Boom Rise of Lyric. It doesn't hurt anyone to simply say that Pizza Tower and Wario Land 4 are just straight up better than Sonic 2006 or Sonic Boom regardless of any differences between them as even many Sonic fans praise Pizza Tower having the speed and momentum that they love Sonic for. Even with the merits of those differences, games like Freedom Planet and Spark the Electric Jester 3 would still stand as examples of platformers that innovate and improve upon 2D or 3D Sonic aspects. It is no different with Pokemon at all as you have games like Coromon, Nexomon, TemTem and many others that handle many aspects of the turn based Pokemon formula with more innovation and improvement as monster collectors completely regardless of any differences between Pokemon and Yo-Kai Watch as monster collectors.
