    • @lordcheesus1013
      @lordcheesus1013 Před 19 dny +18

Agreed. Plus, it conflicts with other pre-established cannons. There was the Arceus movie were Ash travelled back in time a few hundred years back at least and Pokemon were still around.
In the Pokemon: Legends Arceus game, it was set around a couple a hundred years back, and Pokemon were still around.
In the Scarlett and Violet video game, Pokemon were established to exist in the ANCIENT past, although they hadn't evolved into present day forms yet so they looked different. But they were still pokemon.
Heck, even as far back in the Red, blue, and yellow anime and video games, fossil pokemon were said to come from pokemon that lived thousands if not millions of years ago.
So I'm thinking pokemon's own cannon kinda debunked this, some manga plot holes aside.

Agreed. Every official pokemon trainer gets a pokedex from their respective regions at the start of their journeys. And in modern times, it's become an official thing to possess each pokedex with a rotom. Putting those facts together and it's not hard to string it together that you can use the rotom-dex's to teach pokemon TM's, especially since rotoms are ghost types I believe. That probably gives them the ability to psychically connect to a pokemon's mind and help it learn the TM's move.

in data leaks this theory was proven that the pokemon were suppose to be more digital pets. It was the tamagotchi times so it makes sense that they were inspired. This is where in early games when you use a tm it would go on top of the pokemon's head, it spins, then disappears with the mon knowing the move now. I think this is also why you have to go to that pipeline thing to trade pokemon. It is like a digital recoding to the new owner. Rewrite speeds for computers were slow back then XD.

    • @lordcheesus1013
      @lordcheesus1013 Před 19 dny +6

I think the idea is early on during the gen 1/gen 2 eras, the Pokemon IP wanted their creatures to be a recent discovery. That means something changed along the way and in later gens it was decided to let Pokemon be around since their own world started. Hence the discrepancies.
It's kind of like why Dragonite was obviously supposed to be a legendary pokemon as early as the Bill and the Lighthouse in the red/blue/yellow anime episode but then it got changed into being a regular, albeit very rare pokemon.
Plans simply just got changed during/late into production before they could course correct some plot points.

Regarding Elm and Eggs, there are implications that Eggs aren't the natural way for Pokemon to reproduce in the wild. It's mostly just the way that characters talk about them, which can be chalked up to not wanting to get explicit about reproduction in a children's game, but if you take it literally, it could be that Eggs are only produced in a captive daycare type of scenario, and are mysterious for that reason. This would kind of explain things like Kangaskhan hatching with a baby already in its pouch: that doesn't happen in the wild, it's just the result of a weird magical thing that Pokemon are doing for the convenience of humans, or something along those lines.

I have personal theory for Ash, and the anime in general. The in-universe explanation is that he is, indeed, a cartoon; but he is a cartoon that exists within the canon of the games (so a "cartoon within a game"). That explains not only his insane physical prowess and his non-aging, but also some other things. In particular, it explains why the characters that Ash meets in his journey don't have ages that are consistent with those from the games. Here's an example: Misty is slightly older than Red and Blue in the games, and there's around a 20 year age gap between Red/Blue and the Alola cast like Lillie and the trail captains. Yet, Misty and Lillie are roughly the same age in the show. The explanation would be that the show is a cartoon that features figures that are prominent in the Pokemon world (the main cast from the games), and they make guest appearances in Ash's journey, with their ages being adjusted in a case-by-case basis for story-telling purposes.

About Mr. Mime/Rime, that's not a retcon, that's new information about them. A retcon is something that doesn't have explanation while it contradicts previous events/elements, but this has no contradiction because genders for Pokemon weren't a thing until Gen 2. Also regarding TM's, Pokemon are not digital beings, it's just that TM's are created in factories (I mean they are "Technical Machines") but then a Pokemon learns the move by touching it just like an Evolutionary item, which is of course a magical item. So TM's, HM's and TR's are basically the technical counterpart to the magical items in the Pokemon world. It's the items, not the Pokemon.

In several places, it's explicitly mentioned that many Pokémon have existed on Earth for hundreds or even thousands of years. The book by Takeshi Shudo that you refer to is super interesting, but bringing it up here is misleading. Not because it would be 'crossing canons,' but because the ideas in the book are primarily concepts that were never implemented and were just written down as mere ideas he had in mind.

Concerning Ash's strength: First, I wish people would stop thinking Ash has been on this journey for 25+ years. He hasn't. The anime itself has been running all this time, yes. But in story it's only been like 3 or 4 years at best since the kid started his journey. They were even trying to take that into account for a while in the earlier animes and have it sound and look like Ash was starting to grow up a little during the Black/White and X/Y anime arcs. Then, for what ever reason, Pokemon decided to revert Ash back to a 10 year old out of nowhere during Sun and Moon.
Just imagine each episode in the entirety of Ash's Pokemon run being a single day in his life, as the narrator usually says. If we ignore the fact that some episodes span over multiple days, and take into account that there's 1,234 episodes, we can calculate Ash's age from there. There's 365 days in a year. 1,234 days/episodes/365= 3.38 years roughly. You take 10 + 3.38 and you get Ash's age at roughly 13.38, (or 13 and a half to round it nicely) years old. Now, if you want to throw in the extra story-time days it took some episodes to complete, you can probably round it up further to at least 14 or maybe even right around 15 years old.
Just because it took however many years it did to air the episodes in real time doesn't mean that time matches the anime.
Now, that said, I think there's a different reason for Ash's supernatural strength: Ho-oh. That legendary Pokemon was the first ever Ash encountered, and possibly one of the most powerful. I believe Ho-oh endowed Ash with special powers that could enhance his physical abilities based on his bonding levels with his Pokemon when Ho-oh sensed Ash's bond with Pikachu at the start and hence blessed him with a sighing of itself. When that legendary sensed Ash's bond with Pikachu, it deemed him worthy of its special blessing.

The general director of the anime kunihiko iyama already gave us a canon answer why ash doesn’t age

“In the setting of the animation the main character ash is forever ten years old and the background season is forever early summer”
“Sometimes it gets cold in the mountains or it could be hot, those changes happen by traveling”
“Fundamentally it is forever early summer and he is forever ten years old and on top of that a day of summer vacation repeats perpetually”
“This is what I hoped to create”

A theory for the Egg thing is that Pokemon and Humans didn't trust each other so until recently the trust levels grew to the point where communities of Pokemon allowed humans to discover how they bred and created their children with Elm being the first of many to discover it and he became a professor to examine more of Pokemon in nature and further-in, how eggs were created. It must have been recent too because the day-care people were stunned to discover eggs when pokemon raised there had created them behind their backs so they contacted Elm since he had experience with wild Pokemon. What is also interesting is that Ditto's are found on the same route as the day-care.
In conclusion, the human and Pokemon connections were still in breakthrough phrases and Elm was one of the first to record the connection between eggs and Pokemon and he was one of the few people to understand it.

I think that eggs were treated like that was just because in gen 2 it was still a completely new game mechanic. In the remakes HeartGold and SoulSilver eggs are considered as something completely normal and it was just this one Togepi egg that was treated as something unusual.

For the Egg Theory, I would have said that perhaps humans originally thought Pokemon were like themselves and therefore could carry a baby to parturition, only for the advent of Day Care centres along with the compatible egg groups suddenly becoming a factor did people start noticing these eggs appearing. Before then, eggs would have been well guarded by wild pokemon so it was only because the pokemon in Day Cares having been caught and trained were people able to discover their existence.

On TM's, Pokemon can make themselves tiny at will in order to fit inside a pokeball, according to Legends Arceus, so it wouldn't surprise me if they could also glean knowledge from specialised objects. Certain stones, items, etc evolve Pokemon or boost their stats, etc essentially "magically", so it's not a far cry to assume that TM's are also just another one of these objects that Pokemon can interact with in their unique, magical way by just touching them like other objects.

-one thing that can explain Ash and his bond with pokemon comes from the fact Ash is aura user. he can manipulate aura, just like Lucario line and Greninja as we saw in anime. that can explain why Ash can befriend pokemon and can communicate with them in sort of ways. His physical strenght being massive compared to fact he has body of 10 year old also comes from one Pokemon, Ho-oh to be specific. Ash saw him on his first day of being a trainer and he made a wish so his journey will never end. That's why he seems to never grow and why he kept losing leagues until alola, because one condition for alola league was being eleven years old. Ash wanted to participate and thus breaking wish/spell Ho-oh gave him. if we use timestamps in anime that are directly said, Ash would be around 21-22 years old during Journey series.
-thing about pokemon being in PC. In anime we can see that Ash had to call proffesor Oak whenever he needed some pokemon and we can watch in every start and end of series that Ash come to Oak's ranch and his pokemon spend time on fields, forest lakes etc. TMs can be really described as tutorial manual video(doesnt make sence why they were one time use till gen 6 onward but ok)

When it comes to anything with superhuman powers, magics, skills, or abilities - and why characters aren’t dying left and right specifically - I usually chalk it up to genetics. After lifetimes of people being exposed to and having endure and survive against the things that Pokémon can do, eventually, your average human has become one who can live through what would formerly mean death for them. We see it throughout the anime with Team Rocket being blown up in a number of ways, Ash being burned and shocked constantly, Professor Oak being smothered in poisonous slime, and even Ash’s own mother and neighbors being fine after all being shocked by Pikachu in the first episode.

I’d like to add one. I’ve known a lot of people to scratch their heads on how a pile of eggs becomes a palm tree. I know the answer to this! It’s not a palm tree but instead a Cycad. (They look like palms but are actually more closely related to pines) but specifically there’s one genus native to south and Central America called Dioon and their cones look like eggs (which is where the genus gets the name.)

I’m a big toku fan, but I never made that connection about Bug beating Dark. As soon as you mentioned Kamen Rider (you hadn’t even finished the explanation), though, it clicked.
Game Freak references toku with this series quite a bit, actually. Besides surface-stuff like Tyrannitar looking like Godzilla and the various moth Pokemon that take after Mothra, you’ve got Zubat. It has the same name in Japanese, and it was likely named after Kaiketsu Zubat, another toku series that was similar to Kamen Rider. If it was just the name, it’d be nothing of note, just a play on “bat” and “zubatto” (a Zabanese onomatopoeia for a direct hit). Put in the context of the guys who made it, though (Japanese Baby Boomers and Gen Xers who grew up with this stuff) and the other references they made, it’s a bit hard not to see a connection.

For Cosmoem, it floats in place, I don’t think physical strength is relevant there. But the other feats of strength don’t get that easy explanation.
Ash has done a lot of traveling on foot and trains with his Pokémon, so I can accept he’s in peak physical condition for his age, but that doesn’t make him super human.

  • @alitain8135

My explanation for Ash's strength is that all along he's really been a "secret" isekai protagonist. We all know at the beginning of the anime he made his wish...well what happened was he was transported to an alt world. Just so happens it was an alt world/reality basically identical to his own expect he can stay young and go adventuring forever and ever. But anyone who knows isekai's know they pretty always come with cheat abilities, so I think Ash just got some crazy general stat boosting ability. Maybe tied into his everlasting youth or whatever. Yep, Pokemon is really a damn isekai all along...

Because in Legemds Arceus, Pokemon are still relatively new, and that's the whole point of the game. But in the 200 years between LA to Gen 2, no one ever found a pokemon egg?
