The most I’ve ever spent on a plant is $30. I just couldn’t justify spending large amounts of money on a plant that could die later. It’s interesting to see them though.

I once paid €70 for a plant. That was a very old Virginia juniper for my bonsai collection, but that doesn't actually count... otherwise I usually spend between €5 and €15 on plants, although plants are comparatively cheap in Germany.

Paid $80 for a giant Chinese evergreen because I took my huge snake plant to a garden center for diagnosis and they spent an hour cleaning and repotting it. I felt it was only right to spend some money when they told me no charge for their help!

My first unrooted albo cutting bit the dust. That was the most I had spent on a plant 💀😬. I later found a beautiful rooted cutting (just barely had a new node growing when I got it), and it's put out two BEAUTIFUL leaves since I got it.. And I paid a little less money for it!

I have a Ghost that grew to a spectacular height of 26 inches and many branches, while it was left to fend for itself in a community succulent pot under a tree. I acquired this Ghost at a small thrift store in Minnesota, for under a dollar. it stayed about 5 inches tall until I packed it to Florida and set it outside with some friends to be a wild child. Happy to see you have one!

I have a gigantic asparagus fern! It's been "climbing" up the wall. If I had to guess, it's longest tendrils are at least 15ft. I recently added a watering spike, and a grow light nearby (for my other plants - as the fern has been sitting in the same spot across the room from a east window for many many many years) it's quiet happy, with a TON of new growth. ❤🌿

Thank you for showing us thoses beauties. The little banana plant is particularly cute. Just careful with the azalea. It's probably the azalea indica and is not a hardy variety. It's certainly the cheapest beauty you got but it's not the easiest one. It's a real diva. It needs a cool temperature (15 degrees max) to thrive. Doesn't tolerate tape water. Need ericaceous compost. The average temperature in our homes doesn't suit this lil princess at all. It is def a plant for a conservatory. I got a euphorbia lactea white ghost. It's a real pain 😛. Yes it looks beautiful but doesn't grow at all, more a sculpture than a plant actually. And yes, you right, direct sun burn this diva easily. The price of the beautiful anthuriums and banana is crazy. But, in France we use to say "the price is quickly forgotten, but the quality stays". The important for me is to be happy with our plants. I find all mine beautiful whatever the money I paid for them.

You got the Asparagus Fern - good man! It's a great plant and very easy. It drinks a lot of water and likes mistingt to stop it from dropping needles. It grows reeeeeally fast in summer too. Long tendrils reach out and, I kid you not, seem to grow a foot overnight. Watch out for the thick thorny stems that shoot up - I just chop them off.
This is a really easy plant and will also be okay in a medium light. Mine is about 5 feet from the window and I've also kept them in pretty cold rooms with no radiators. They are sturdier than they look.

Euphorbias are not cacti but both are succulents. They are their own distinct family. Cacti have areoles from which the needle-like spines emerge, some don't have spines at all though. euphorbias thorns grow directly from the skin in pairs. They also have a milky latex that is toxic and highly irritating to mucus membrane, whereas cacti have clear non- toxic sap. That is the reason why the euphorbia family is also called dogbane family. The resemblance of the desert euphorbia to cacti is a result of convergent evolution, which means that two not closely related species develop similar characteristics due to comparable environmental conditions.
I'd pick the Monstera because it is a non hybridized species. I'm not too keen on cultivars, especially if they cost so much.

I have 3 one meter tall white ghost and I keep mine out side here in the desert 10a. I keep mine behind the pillars in that it may get morning and late afternoon sunlight only. I did make the mistake thinking it’s winter and why not put in the full sun for 5 days it got burned and luckily I caught it in time before in did a lot more damage or killing them. They look amazing when they get taller. It’s grown a lot and I would say fast growing from mid spring to mid summer. I have mine in a mix of coco fiber40%, pumice stone, sand, crushed charcoal, crushed lava rock. I may water it once every 2 week in the summer and once every month or longer in the winter. It did fine in the 118 degree f summer temps if it was not in direct sun. Hope that helps and bless your heart on the plant haul those dainty plants scare me and makes me stressed looking at them.

Hello, I really like this video. While I would not spend so much money on a plant, it is certainly interesting to see what is "trendy" in terms of plants at the moment.
I would like to provide some info on the Asparagus fern and on the Euphorbia. The Asparagus fern is in fact related to the vegtable. Its floofy "fronds" are made up of parts of the shoot doubling as leaves (phylloclades). The Euphorbia is not a cactus, but part of a separate family. They can look similar, but cacti are entirely new world and do not have milky sap as Euphorbias do.

I have the euphorbia. I got a baby and it didn't cost near 100. It sits right in my east facing window and it didn't grow during the dark days of winter but it is starting to now. I think it's pretty easy to care for

Personally I think there are more striking anthuriums than the delta force, I'm glad I was never too taken by it because I know I'll never be able to part with that much money over a plant! (Mind you I do spend more on plants than I should!) I think I'm more of an alocasia fan, unfortunately lots of alocasias can get super pricey too 😢

Ponsetia can easily live for several years. My neighbor has some that are over 15 years old. West windows, regularly alternate between drowning and forgetting and heating the room well, then they grow like weeds.

Hello, I do have euphoria lactea, but I did not pay 100 dollars, I paid less than $50 I am sure with the shipping cost, it came from Puerto Rico, I’m in USA. I planted this cactus 🌵 when it arrived and I water 💦 only every two weeks because it’s winter if I see it needs water. I have it in my bedroom and only gets some day light in the morning, but not direct light.
This is my second I bought because the first one it was watered too much and it collapsed and thrown away before I returned from vacation, thinking I wasn’t going to miss it! So that’s why I bought this second one.

The sharp fall in the price of the 'Delta Force' may have something to do with the fact that Kaylee sent it to TC and has mentioned this fact quite often recently.
I now occasionally see it as an adult plant at trade fairs and presentations of rather high-priced suppliers. Richard, you don't realise how beautiful this plant becomes with age. Photos hardly do it justice. Please take good care of it!

  • @antonsrandomstuff

I bring home random plants and let the natural selection do its job. That would be a waste of a rare special plant. Besides here in Finland, anything with “bright light” either dies or requires a special LED lamp 18 hours a day.

    • @antonsrandomstuff

@@SheffieldMadePlants Summer has long daylight but it's never "mediterranean afternoon sun" bright so the apartment gets shady when the sun does not shine directly into the window. Plants feel great outside if they can handle an occasional +12C night. Sadly window sills got out of fashion, and even 1-2 meters from a window make a big difference.

  • @nicoleperron3315

I love the colors on the banana plant but whenever I've bought a plant for it's color it's been disappointing. They look amazing in the photo then you get them and they look completely different. So never more that $20.00 as a general rule. It's always fifty fifty whether they survive in your place anyways.
I like smaller plants that adapt , I've lost every big one I've bought.

plant prices are so crazy. what even is 'rare'?? i have to go to every garden centre in the metro area to *maybe* find a $7 euphorbia or i can pop down to the very local plant shop and pick up an infamous thai con for $99. which also happens to be going for $19 in grocery stores on the other side of the country (a mere 4000km away). 🙄

    • @teuth

it's funny, i used euphorbia as an example before i knew there was one on the list. the ghost lactea is indeed very hard to find and expensive here. i was talking about other euphorbs that are still very rare here but quite inexpensive, not having the same status as the white ghost.
