I was also appalled and sickened by what Hamas did to Israelis. My daughter attended four different public schools in Miami, Florida during the mid 90s through mid aughts and not once was there any mention of antisemitism. However, during the period of time I went to public school in Miami during the 60s and 70s, I experienced a lot of antisemitism from teachers, classmates, and my friends' parents.

      All people deserve to be treated with respect 100% of the time - but that includes the Palestinians in Palestine. There is a massive difference between recognizing and valuing the humanity of Palestinians - and - being antisemitic (as illustrated in this video). Any recent protest news clip I have seen that shows an actual situation is pretty clearly NOT anti-Semitic and rather trying to raise consciousness about the humanity of Palestinian civilians in Gaza. By conflating these two issues (antisemitism with pro-Palestinian protests) liberal (US, pro-Biden) media is not fooling anyone. We all see what Biden continues to support and it is sadly going to affect voting outcomes in 2024.

Francesca Block's supporting example is teachers who participated in a walk-out to join a pro-Palestinian protest. This is NOT evidence of teachers being anti-Semitic and escaping consequences. That would only be the case if it is anti-Semitic to be pro-Palestinian, which is absurd. One good reason to be pro-Palestinian is to think that the killing of 20,000 Palestinians (mostly noncombatants, children) since Oct 7 is unjustified, and that has nothing to do with dehumanizing Jewish people. My literature class every year reads a Holocaust themed story/novel because of the lack of Holocaust literacy from gen z. Francesca's rhetoric is totally irresponsible - that public schools are rife in antisemitism. I acknowledge individual instances of antisemitism and stupid lesson plans by teachers, but she is painting all public education with too broad a brush. Such irresponsible reporting and the stigma it perpetuates about public ed is one of the reasons teachers quit and an institution crumbles.

    • @AndyCutright
      @AndyCutright Před 6 měsíci

      Antisemitism is rife in the US. Anti-Jewish hate crimes have increased tremendously over the past few years. Public schools are full of children of bigots and thus full of young bigots. Public school DEI/ CRT efforts in particular have wrapped bigotry in a faux cloak of academic and quasi-legal approval. Jews are regarded as "privileged" and "occupiers." This is hammered into teachers and administrative staff, who hammer this wretched toxic stew into students. The students consequently turn on their fellows, in particular Jews.
      Teachers quit because they are overworked, forced to deal with parents that don't teach their kids to respect teachers, and forced to deal with kids with learning disabilities who chew up way too many resources at the expense of kids capable of learning. DEI/ CRT efforts affect hiring decisions too. Folks that aren't qualified are hired and promoted into leadership positions and that causes a morale problem. This all rolls downhill and affects Jews disproportionately.

    You are conflating support for Palestine with Anti-Semitism. Unless Anti-Semitic messages -- NOT the same as anti-Israel messages -- are part of the rally, this is political speech, not ethnic hate. Protesting the policies currently in effect in Israel is NOT the same as expressing hatred for Jews, just as condemning Hamas is not the same as expressing hate for Palestinians. Emotions run high, understandably, but that is no excuse for condemning Jews for the actions of the Israeli government, or for condemning Palestinians for the actions of Hamas. And you should understand that many Israelis, Jews and non-Jews, condemn the actions of their government in Gaza and the West Bank, just as many Palestinians condemn the actions of Hamas. Bring angry at Israel is not the same as hating Jews. Bring angry at Hamas is not the same as hating Palestinians. Get this straight! As commentators, you bear a heavy responsibility to get it right. Make the effort!

      Precisely. I think this is just another example of the "higher-ups" at MSNBC trying to control the narrative among potential Democratic voters (for Biden) next year. I think it has already failed. No one is fooled. The president/most Democratic politicians -by their action/inaction show that they do not care about the humanity of the Palestinians in Gaza - while most of the Democratic base probably does (and probably Republicans too). I've already decided I can't vote at all next year and I was a lifelong Dem voter.

    Showing support for Palestine is now considered to be antisemitism these days. There is No Genocide in Xinjiang. Definition of genocide is what is being conducted in Palestine.

    I don't want to be mistaken for claiming that one form of antisemitism is "more real," but the example here was blatantly hateful and bigoted.
    Anyone familiar with historical tropes, banking conspiracy theories, Holocaust, Rothschild, Soros, WEF, globalism, and historical Jewish expulsion and pogroms, can immediately recognize it.
    Communication, language, vocabulary, and racial slurs do evolve over time, but prejudice people learn to be more discreet.
    Instead of using unmistakable hate speech, euphemism and dog whistles can have a similar effect with plausible deniability.
    I'm neither Jewish, Israeli, nor anti-Semitic, so I struggle trying to understand how saying, "from the river to the sea," or using the rap lyrics, "it's all about the Benjamins" is antisemitism and a call for genocide.

      From the river to the sea is an explicit call for wiping out the state of Israel and the next line in the Hamas charter calls for wiping out all of world Jewry.
      Yes, some of it does get more subtle. You failed to understand “from the river to the sea” because it isn’t a 3rd Reich salute.

      @@71suns you can listen to Hamas leaders explicating the meaning of the phrase or simply read the charter. I don’t have to lie. The truth is horrific, sadly. And we have seen it enacted consistently by Hamas and other Palestinian terrorist groups for decades.
