  • You Can Fix Anything! Part 1 - Kitchen Scales
Junk? Most technicians would throw this in the bin straight away and rightly so, it is utter garbage.... but I see opportunity. Repair it and solve all of these kitchen scales problems in one go.
This video is the first of a series where we say forget non existent circuit diagrams, right to repair, shareholders, retail stores, companies, brand names and the budget. Let’s fix things by reengineering them as more repairable, more functional, slightly larger, but generally better products than the original.
Is it really simple? Yes I believe so, it all goes together like lego. Simpler than repairing the unknown IC under that blob? Yes. The most fun and logical solution is simple to me. Nothing I did was actually difficult.
Yes a new one is often cheaper, but should things be built unrepairable and as cheaply as possible? Is it better for the economy or the environment?
If these kitchen scales were built right I would have only had to order a $9 micro controller and it would be up and running again. So let's rebuild it right!

There are of course cheaper options, use a smaller LCD without I2C, perhaps the Arduino can do the AD conversion for us? Also buy from China if you don't mind waiting for items to arrive.

    Great project thanks for sharing!
I remember these load cells use to be something you could use to upgrade flight joysticks and brake pedals but they were somewhat expensive.

Thanks! Yeah there must be some great projects with those. They are cheap enough now on AliExpress.
