  • Sermon Overview
    Scripture Passage: 1 Samuel 24:1-7
King David was a remarkable man after God’s own heart. David was a man that lived by principle, not by appearance. He was a warrior who knew many victories, but perhaps his greatest victory was the one over his own spirit when he became subject to kingdom authority.
In 1 Samuel 24, David is hiding in a cave after King Saul has put a bounty on his head. King Saul comes into the cave, unaware that David and his men are hiding just out of sight.
David has the opportunity to kill Saul, the man actively trying to kill him. But he does not; instead, he shows us how to behave in a cave when no one else is watching. He refuses to take vengeance and acts as according to Scripture: “Be not overcome of evil, but overcome evil with good” (Romans 12:21).
As David did, we should recognize authority. David knew that he had no right to take Saul’s life because Saul was David’s king-bad king, sure, but he was God’s chosen and anointed king.
There is no king, no power, no ruler that has not been ordained of God. Therefore, to rebel against authority is to rebel against God. We must make a practice of submitting to leadership. We should also respect authority.
If the authority in question commands us to do something that is contrary to the Word of God, we should obey God rather than men. But we must be sure that even when we disobey our appointed leader, we have a warrant from Scripture. And even still, we act in a manner that respects the leader’s authority.
Finally, we should rest in kingdom authority. God took care of Saul, and God will take care of our enemies as we learn to rest in the Lord.
    Apply it to your life
Adrian Rogers says, “Is there anybody or anything that you have a rebellious spirit about? Let me ask you this question: Have you submitted to the King of kings? That’s where it all begins - by giving your heart to Jesus Christ. And when you get under the authority of Jesus Christ, under the authority of the Word of God, under the authority of those that God has put over you, you’re going to find yourself living, praying, speaking, and acting with incredible authority.”

I certainly don’t have this problem. Every time I make an assumption about someone or something, I’m wrong probably half the time. Then I realize (again), well I should stop thinking like that.

If you trusted everybody in a uniform from the get-go, you wouldn’t ask for second opinions from doctors.

Because of George Floyd, we all learned who is who! God is authority in Christ jesus. Thats why we have selective services. In case authority stops working

Of course after that amazing speech sticking up for the men in blue on behalf of our downstricken police force, the only one not clapping and showing support would be none other then a colored guy at 18:25. Naturally.

There's nothing natural about it. You don't know why he didn't clap, his experiences. There are many black people who do support the police. Don't put an entire race in the same bucket

I am very sad that after hearing such a powerful convicting message, if indeed you did “hear” it, that your response would be to speculate about someone else’s heart. 😓🙏

You both are looking at it backwards. Instead of seeing it as ME lumping an "entire race in the same bucket", maybe you should see it as NOT giving an entire race a pass in their malice towards those who protect you, because of a FEW actions committed by a FEW crooked people, towrads a FEW people of a different skin color. Why side with the DISDAIN AND DISGUST of someones LACK of support for the main majority of the ones keeping you safe, and maintaining order in the grander scheme of things? Why allow hatred, and lashing out from people because they were led by the media to believe theyre JUSTIFIED in doing so by a perveted sense of entitlement and racially based "justice". His "EXPERIENCES" might not even EXIST. why project hardship onto someone and be "forgiving" of their SOUR attitude, when they very well may have never even EXPERIENCED hardship? Maybe he values the words of influence from twisted family members who sow the seeds of discord and deceive him into believing that "police are the enemy!", celebrity rappers, pop culture, mainstream media, poor choice of peer groups etc. Over the words of the lord Jesus Christ. If you just stand there and give him a pass based on NOTHING but your ASSUMPTIONS, that hes endured hardship BECAUSE OF HIS SKIN COLOR [which is just as "racist" as MY comment] [and imagine if you asked him today "son why didnt you clap that day in service, is it because of all 'hardship' youve faced?" And imagine if he replied "uhh No why you think I been through stuff mister? I came from the life of hard knocks cuz im black?? Mister, i grew up in beverly hills to a mom whos a doctor and a dad whos a lawyer, not all black folk is ghetto and been thru sum stuff! I just aint like the cops cuz dey out here killin black folks!" Like he was led to believe from CNN. YOUD LOOK LIKE A FOOL!] and ignore the twisted culture of the ghetto youth. Know what thats called? Thats enabling. And encouraging. And reinforcing their grudge keeping and sick destructive belief system . Give me a break. Dont feel sad for ME i HEARD the pastor loud and clear. Unfortunately, i dont believe everyone who was THERE in person, and had the outstanding privilege of hearing this excellent man preach got to hear him loud and clear. In fact, It would seem the unsupportive man we should pretend ISNT being stubborn and proud and Ignorant to the reality of what the pastor had spoken, just had too many "poor experiences" to hear the message. Maybe instead of allowing evil to gain a foothold in society, you should be praying that those with stubborn, proud, and grudge keeping hearts find forgiveness and wisdom in the lords teachings and not concern themselves with the "past" and focus more on the future, and maybe learn something. Whats next. You going to convince me hes JUSTIFIED in hating the police force because of, lets hear it, Slavery? My white culture taught me to RESPECT authority. And always comply. What did his teach him? Not his parents. His CULTURE, what did it teach him? I wont name who this quote is by, but I want you to think hard on it.
"There is no Antidote for Evil, only Amputation. For anything of the sort must be Cut Down with as much urgency, as it Did Grow." Only the Devil would deceive you into giving evil a pass because of someone's "experiences". Evil is EVIL. end of story. Fight the forces of evil wherever they may be. And never fear to call it out! Call a spade a spade!
