- Benin is a West African Country With 50 Languages and a Population of 13 Million People | Africa in 30 Seconds: Benin, previously known as Dahomey, is a country in West Africa with a narrow access to the Gulf of Guinea. The land has a total area of 114,760 square kilometers and a total coastline of 121 km making it 87 times smaller than United States. Benin is thus the 21st smallest country in Africa and ranked 102nd in the world. The highest elevation in the country (Mountain Sokbaro) is 658 meters. Benin borders Burkina Faso, Niger, Nigeria and Togo. The current population of Benin is 13,054,719. Benin population is equivalent to 0.16% of the total world population. The people of Benin are known as Beninese or Beninois. French is the official language of Benin. 50 indigenous languages are also spoken in Benin that have been granted the status of national languages. The capital city of Benin is Porto-Novo but the largest city is Cotonou which is also home to the government. Absolutely. Civilization started in Africa after all. A white man admitted this for the first time only because it was in his interest to say so. He was arguing against African Americans asking for reparations. He said Africans were the first to enslave others because the first empires were in Africa. My jaw dropped and of course that is true. It is not something they put out there though. All they say is that we were savages needing to be civilized. Africans could easily be the most intelligent as well. African children up to the age of 7 are the brightest of all races. My guess is this continues throughout life but is stifled by racism and everything else that is against us
