    I did buy the collectors edition from Nisamerica for the Switch! But I hate that Koei Tecmo locks bathingsuits behind the Deluxe digital edition. So ofc I had to buy the ultimate edition digitally as well! I need those bathingsuits for this game! And the Seaskn pass of course. It is a horrible business practice though, all dlc should be made avaliable for purchase separately. Great review as always Jordan!

    This was my first Atelier game and I can confirm I had absolutely no problem following the plot, and it's even easier if you do not like 5 minutes of research on the game to give you some context for the previous game. It was also one of the best written JRPGS that I've played in....probably decades.

    I doubt it will be the case, but I really hope they have an unlimited inventory in this game. I enjoy the series, but it always seems like there is never enough room for ingredients when out in the field.

    • @StarMiners0416
      @StarMiners0416 Před 2 lety

      For anybody interested, the inventory still is limited in both the basket (in-field collecting) and container (overall). The container limit is very high, but I faced a severe space shortage near the end of the game.

    As much as I love jrpgs I cannot stand constant interruptions with banal cut scenes. The Atelier series always put me off with these, coupled with bland environments and one dimensional characters I have struggled to get more than 3-4 hours into any entry in the series (since Ps3 era). I will be missing this one!

    I love jrgps but have zero interest in the ateleir series. all for 1 reason the freaking time limit. in an rpg I wanna explore do sidequest etc not rush trough the game and even a lenient time limit ruins it for me

    • @SwitchWatch
      @SwitchWatch  Před 2 lety +5

      There’s no time limit here

    • @ryasson1830
      @ryasson1830 Před 2 lety +2

      The only games where the time limit could actually be an issue is the Arland trilogy. The next trilogy (Dusk) is quite lenient and got rid of the limit in the 3rd entry.
      The 3rd trilogy (Mysterious) brought the time limit back for the 2nd entry (Firis) but it's so easy, it might as well be non-existent.
      Any other entry afterwards has no time limit whatsoever.
      So if you want to try out the series, just pick any of the more recent titles ad ignore the Arland and Dusk trilogy (and Firis maybe).

    I bought the game and played through it from start to finish - put 60+ hours in the game. I was dedicated to finishing it. But in the end, I ended up not liking it.
    - *Combat is too easy.* If you know what you're doing with your equipment, battles end too quickly. I never felt compelled to heal my team or cure any debuffs during battles. The aura system forces a particular strategy that gets repetitive with every battle.
    _ *The world and set-pieces were very bland* - always felt compelled to fast-travel rather than be immersed in the environments.
    - *The soundtrack is not memorable in this one.* Each piece is constructed very well mechanically, but they're just not interesting to listen to. Fast-traveling and fast-ending battles reduce the exposure necessary to let the environment and battle themes settle in your mind.
    - *Characters are hit-or-miss.* They're fun to be around, but their motivations/character arcs tend to be cliche. Regarding one character particularly, I felt the relationship between them and Sophie was not developed enough.
    - *Story has an interesting premise, but it devolves to being safe and resorting to the generic "let's all get along" group dynamic.* - it gets boring quickly. Plot conveniences are excessively used, making me think "how convenient" often.
    Pro-tip: when you get the opportunity to adjust party abilities, aim for all abilities that reduce restock price, reduce duplication cost, and increase rewards for requests. You'll be swimming in Cole for the rest of the game and will make everything a heck-ton easier because ALL alchemy-created items can be duplicated, even story-related ones.

    The gameplay looks so much up my alley but dear god the character design just makes me want to jump out the nearest window every single time I see an Atelier game.
    The overly sexualized insanely young looking girl with impossible proportions ... holy potato.

      If you are able to access a PlayStation 2 emulator, Atelier Iris imo is one of the best places to start. I played Iris 2 and 3 heavily and as you can already tell, it's a trilogy. 2 has you basically take control of two characters and revolves around two blades known as the Azure Azoth and the Crimson Azoth and the appearance of a young girl named Iris. The story is awesome. Atelier Iris 3 follows a more grown up Iris with her own Atelier and her partner Edge.
