10 years on, this still hurts. I think Trudy's death hurt the most, because she remained human. She didn't use an Avatar, to help her understand the people, she didn't slowly accept and adjust their customs. She wasn't persuaded, or "converted" to their way of thinking. She was just a solider who, when confronted with an order she knew was wrong, did the right thing. She did it without agonising over it, it wasn't even a choice for her. It doesn't linger on her choice. She knows, immediately, without it having to be spelt out for her, that what they were doing was wrong, and she fights for life and justice, for their own sake. It doesn't take her a redemption arc, or an uplifting tale. She just knows inherently. Every other human character was either a villain, or else spent their time literally in the bodies of the aliens. Trudy kept her humanity, and was the sole character who was a hero 'because' of her humanity, not in spite of it.
@@Commander_Rane What the hell dude. You kept rooting for those butchers. Tsutey should've killed them all. Luckly, Na'Vi only ever wanted peace, that's why those remaining humans were allowed to leave the planet.

@@manikandankarthik4215 yes, Tsu'tey, Trudy and that unnamed marine that defended his buddies, dragged him to safety, and managed to defeat 2 12 foot tall monsters.

this movie hurts so much because it explains too much of what is happening today in nature and that society is destroying it without realizing the beauty in mother nature and it just makes me cry
The biggest problem I had with Avatar wasn't the Dances with Wolves in Space story (although that did make me roll my eyes several times) or the Anti-Humanity theme (it didn't even feel THAT Anti-Human on rewatch, more human critical than anything else) was the naive idealization of Nature and the severe defamation of science and technology, many people have gotten the idea into their heads that Mother Nature is beautiful and fair and that we need to live in harmony and balance. with her when in reality "Harmony" and "Balance" are human concepts and Mother Nature is an ugly, bad, hateful bitch whose only goal is to eliminate those she considers "unfit" to survive (and usually they are the ones who deserve survive longer), but technology allows us to spit in her face and say "fuck you, bitch! We're doing what we want from now on." and this movie pretty much says we should give that up in favor of going back to living as hunter-gatherers who rarely live to be 20 and have to have more than 10 kids because most of them will die before they reach walking age. , fuck. I would rather endure climate change.
'We have an indigenous population of humanoids called the Na'avi, they are fond of arrows dipped in a neurotoxin that will stop your heart in one minute, and they have bones reinforced with naturally occurring carbon fiber, they are very hard to kill' *The nameless grunt on screen literally killed two Natives with one burst each*
Everyone is going on about Tsutey what about the soldier? That man is a beast carrying his homie then looks up and reks these two avatars and probably goes back to trying to save his homie. In the end though he is the one who got crushed between the two big lots of C4
In my head that never happened. He finds a woman to love, he receive a couple of children and grandchildren to grow up and lead his people together with Neytiri and Jake, bringing a long period of peace
Just replace these avatars with poor civilians in the middle East, living in countries full of oil, and the American and Russian governments coming over with promise to do better, but killing them
But let's not forget the true hero of these scenes, the soldier at 0:20! After seeing his squad brutality murdered by a primitive xeno, he attempted to help the wounded and in a moment of bravery took down the monster ravaging his team, and even takes down a second one before the shot ends! Jake wishes he has half the balls this man has.

However, this movie would've worked out just fine, or even turned out to be even better, if the characters' lives were spared, like Grace, Trudy, and Tsu'Tey. This movie definitely doesn't have an original story to offer (Avatar's plot is pretty much the same as Dances With Wolves, Ferngully, Disney's Atlantis, and Disney's Pocahontas), but it definitely would've been much more enjoyable and satisfying, if those characters at least had never died and lived on happily on Pandora together instead.
