Ive seen Nightwish 4 times. France, Wacken 2013, Donington and Wembley 2015. Wacken 2013 was where i was introduced to Floor and omg i was blown away. Her voice is so perfect, Marko and Troys voices are so perfect. The musicians are so tight, Floor owns the stage, she works the crowd and the whole band react with the crowd. I never got that feeling with Tarja or Anette. The sound and lighting is perfect on every performance not forgetting the pyros.
They Shannon! I haven't seen them live just yet but definitely looking forward to it đ Floor is a fabulous front woman! Full of energy and life on stage in the videos.
The song "Yours is an Empty Hope" live in Mexico City has Floor growling a lot in it

@@ZoeStibiVocalCoach Apparently she did not speak for the whole of that day and abbreviated her warm-up to preserve as much voice as possible for the show, and was barely able to speak at all afterwards.
So having a slightly scratchy voice between some of the songs was entirely understandable!
She could barely sing during the show in Columbia .

This BA 2018 (Decades tour) performance is excellent (Floor was a little sick and that's why her speaking voice was a little out of tune - but not the singing voice). Marko Hietala as the "Devil" and Floor as the "Ocean". Great duet. The song is originally from the album "Oceanborn" (1998, Tarja's era). Wonderful analysis. By the way, as a seasoned vocal coach herself, Floor is giving some vocal masterclasses on her YT channel (corona pasttime). They are very professional and entertaining. Greetings from Finland! âđ

If you do further reactions to Nightwish with Floor, it would be great to hear your thoughts on all the timbre changes that Floor uses in her singing. There are times she jumps between timbres every couple of words, such as in her opening verse in this song, and other times she does whole sections mostly in one timbre and then switches for other sections (e.g. Ghost Love Score at Wacken 2013). I think it's one of the more interesting things about her singing, along with her extensive use of dynamics.
100% I see I will have to listen super closely to her voice for the next one. Great thing to watch out for though! I sometimes think with artists they make these decisions based on the feeling of the song / in the moment rather than dissecting it all to the extent that I am here. ;)

well i had a ticket to Sweden Rock Festival 2020 with Nightwish headlining, and i'm still waiting for it. Saw Nightwish live at Sweden Rock in 2004 with Tarja, in pouring rain. Still one of my fav performances ever at Sweden Rock...

Interesting to see you exploring Nightwish! Remarkable choice, because most vocal coaches jump on the train with Ghost Love Score live from Wacken Festival. Might be the next one to explore, with lead singer Floor Jansen using all sorts of vocal techniques...Thanks for this one!
Going by some previous comments I read on another video she's already familiar with and aware of Nightwish and Floor. Though to what extent I'm not sure
Yes I am a big Nightwish fan... although I wasn't aware until recently that the singer had changed! How terrible of me right? I am way back in the early 2000's Nightwish. Although I did have tickets to their 2020 tour which obviously didn't happen ;(

Floor was scratchy because she was just getting over the flu that had been reeking havoc on everyone at this part of the tour.
Early on in the video you mentioned the growl was by using the arytenoids. Floor's growling in Yours is an Empty Hope was described by The Big Brain Singer Vocal coach/Opera singers as being produced by the false vocal folds. Are these separate techniques or just different names for the same technique. Yours is an Empty Hope might be a good one to react to.
Floor didn't learn to growl till after she was long after the Rock Academy and even the Tilburg Conservatory.
Just wonder how you can write I song like this one.. nothing compares. to it.

Try album that Floor created with her old band ReVamp, it is called ,, Wild Card ÂŽÂŽ. I would describe this album as a pure madness, hatred, betrayal ...It is so depressing, but I love that album so hard. Floor and Nightwish did epic stuff all the time, but this one is so special.

Ich war 2018 in der MĂŒnchner Olympiahalle bei nightwish. Es war schon echt irre gut. Die KlangqualitĂ€t und diese konstante top Performance von allen auf und wohl auch hinter der BĂŒhne ist echt Wahnsinn. KlangmĂ€Ăig sind diese Konzerte extrem weit vorne.

Amazing, I will take a look at it. I would love to hear her ideas. I have a rock coach at the moment helping me learn to scream which is right out of my comfort zone as a classically trained, musical theatre turned rock belter. ;) My dream is to join a melodic metal band.

So I heard to growl safely something about the "false folds" at the top of your vocal cords
Growl is the arytenoids knocking together but screaming and singing with a bit of scratch in the voice is with the false vocal folds. I think it depends on what you define as a growl. ;)
You may want to check out Floor really growling in a couple of songs she wrote for her previous band ReVamp, specifically "Disdain" and "Wild Card".

YOU SAW EISBRECHER LIVE?! I am so jealous, although they are from Munich I haven't seen them yet. Hmmmm I have a huge range of music I listen to, but Russkaja, ALIEN WEAPONRY, literally all the artists on the Napalm Records label. Alestorm is more pirate metal but I LOVE them!

Yes , she is trained at the Rockacademy and she did classical training, but then she did the growls in her own time, she didn't get proper training in the Rockacadamy (for her), the classical training was better , the teacher gave her more training as the Rockacadamy
Please please please do some In Extremo. They have so much fans and are an interesting band playing medieval metal but nobody I suggest it to actually gives them a listen.

Floor say in her one Chanel calls Master Class that she do the job as an Vocal Choach for 10 Years but she have more Time for.this anymore
When she banters and shouts between songs, Floor does tend to have a fairly raspy/scratchy tone to her voice. Don't know if that's just the way she sounds when she raises her voice, or if there is some damage that has happened over the years.
Really? I will have to find a video to take a look at her talking. She will know best I am sure but when you hear Tatiana from Jinjer as an example her speaking voice is 100% clear. That is ultimately what we want. She sings clearly though without the appearance of pushing so .... It could be a bit of constriction, or a bit of fry.
@@ZoeStibiVocalCoach If you go to Floor's CZcams channel you can find a lot of examples of her regular speaking voice. I don't detect any raspy quality there, just a sort of lower voice tone.
It's inherited from the male dominated metal scene where all front-men tend to put distortion on their voice when riling up the crowd! I love it when she does that stuff. Have a look at her live ReVamp performances where she uses distortion a lot when she's shouting. It's on purpose for sure.
Intentional rasp, a good old rock voice.
