Damn. Been waiting for some Alcest for a long time. Do Souvenirs D'un Autre Monde, Oeiseux De Proie or Untouched next.
Edit: it does help to know French so you understand the lyrics and they have their new album Spiritual Instinct coming out next month.
So as a few have mentioned, this live version was chosen as Alcest's label at the time, Prophecy, is known for copyright striking, thus the live version which is able to get around the strike. Recently Alcest has switched labels, and the new label seems to no longer be striking for the new single they just released, Protection, so that may be worth checking in the near future.
Shoegaze is a subgenre of rock which came about in the early 90s with bands like My Bloody Valentine. It was named as such by the British music press as the bands would constantly stare down at their guitar pedal boards, and the critics joked that they were gazing at their shoes, thus "shoegaze". The genre itself is known for very fuzzy, loud swirling guitars, with ethereal style vocals. It is not a metal genre of music, though recently it has been highly influential to many metal bands. Blackgaze being a mixing of black metal, and shoegaze.
The lyrical basis of Alcest is based around an imaginary realm Neige, the main man behind the band, experienced in his childhood, which he called the Fairyland. Alcest is all about recapturing that feeling of childish innocence within that Fairyland.
bmfan Thanks for helping explain this. Trying to reply to every inaccurate comment was becoming a task. Haha
Im a fan of this band. I’m very excited for the album release. Maybe next time they do this genre they can do Sylvaine or Suldusk.
And before someone asks, this live one was chosen because any studio Alcest will be blocked by the label, and there isn't much live stuff out there to choose from.
sopwithsnoopy I disagree. They’ve done bands on Nuclear Blast before which is who Alcest is signed to.
But their old label, Prophecy BC, would block/strike them. They just signed to Nuclear Blast
sopwithsnoopy Hmm, possibly the old label was doing that but I’ve seen reactions to their older music so it’s really no different than any other artist. And yes, I am aware their signing to Nuclear Blast is recent.
@@Raijin-RyuX24 i can assure you that Prophecy BC are very rude with copyright things, they shot down my channel because i uploaded a vinyle video of Sol Invictus and Vàli
Alcest is an essential band if you're looking for something outside of conventional metal music.
9:30 Vin, any studio version would be blocked by the label.
You & Sori definitely need to watch the official video for Alcest - Autre Temps on your own time though. Beautiful song and beautiful video.
sopwithsnoopy How do you know it would be blocked? Hmm?
A lot of people who do reaction videos for songs will pause here and there throughout to get around that. Yeah it can kind of ruin it but it's better than nothing. This live version is fantastic but the studio version is amazing.
Saw them in India last year. One of best live experience I've ever had. Neige has such a soulful voice.
Alcest = best French metal band out there, in my opinion.
Most of their songs are less 'metal' and more melancholy/beautiful than this one, but this is still a good song by them :)
yes, it was difficult choosing a song by them given that their label block reactions to anything not live.
Deathspell...
Don't forget Hypno5e.
year of no light
Blut aus nord
THANK YOUUUU, would love to see more reactions of Alcest/anything with frontman Neige, love from australia
Alcest, Harakiri For The Sky, Deafheaven. All dope Blackgaze bands.🤘
Neige was also on that peste noire track that you guys reacted to as a vocalist with famine.
Vin's favorite prog band Opeth has a new album out Friday! 😂
SAVATAGE - When the Crowds are Gone
An essential classic metal band, with some incredible lyrics.
This band better be on the list.
@@andrewbrorherton6898 it is ha. worry not
@@daimonsage_1o818 Maybe they will save the best for last. This is the band I've waited for probably more than any other.
@@andrewbrorherton6898 well it's a classic song, for better or for worse. You'll love it or hate it
Alcest is absolute magic. I'm convinced that through their music we're able to make contact with other dimensions
Shoegaze is an awesome genre of music. They use a lot of effect pedals to create all sorts of walls of sounds and noises that can make some really beautiful stuff. So the guitarists would be often be staring down at their pedals or shoes if you will. Hence shoegaze
Wow never recommended Alcest coz I thought you guys would never do something not in English. Thanks a lot for doing Alcest. They are beautiful!
This song is so amazing. In one month i'm gonna see them live for the second time. There's just an incredible atmophere at their shows
You two are awesome. And this song was actually better than I thought it'd be. Peace be with you.
Finally somebody reacting to Alcest!!!!! Thank you
I love listening to vins childhood stories. The things he did, and then his moms reaction. Hilarious stories.
Thanks! Finally some Alcest!
Some many time waiting for this!!!
Awesome guys, this is my favorite band, you should do Eclosion by them, one or their very best songs.
damn those drums sound MASSIVE. such a great sound
Well, well... Finally!
I suggest this song in the comment section, so, here we are.
Does this mean we will finally get a Peste Noire reaction? --> La mort joyeux, Spleen, Dueil Angoisseus.
AND MAYBE, Amesoeurs.
Peste noire is incoming 🙃
dunno if reacting to NSBM would be good optics for their channel
This is awesome song!
Black gaze is great
Alcest is quite essentiel, they invented a genre and and they where very innovating in the black metal scene.
Power Trip - Divine Apprehension
Power Trip - Hornet’s Nest
Power Trip - Crucifixation
All hail alcest!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Alcest's label is known for blocking and copyright striking any songs, so bmfan was able to find this really good quality live video. Alcest is probably one of the biggest influencers in the post metal movement. Especially when it comes to post black metal. Really great band, and a band that paved the way for acts like Deafheaven. Alcest has now moved to a new label that doesn't block or strike, so new content going forward you should be able to react to studio versions. Generally speaking we in the XU don't like doing live performances unless its a rare instance where the live version is clearly above the studio version. But Alcest is to important to not do them for an essentials week.
Well I'm not certain I'd say they're one of the most essential and influential as far as post metal as a whole, hence Dana's upset at them winning that poll. But certainly probably the most essential as far post-black metal/blackgaze.
@@silverkyrie4714 hence why I said particularly post black metal. Post metal as a whole goes back alot further and is much more broad.
Shoegazing refers to guitarists staring at their pedalboards full of delays and reverbs, haha. But also the melancholic vibe, sort of the wistful emotion in the music.
You need to react to Protection, their latest video from their upcoming album, "Spiritual Instinct".
Also keep in mind, Neige is a one-man-band, his albums are pretty much all-him.
He tours with a live band for his music, but when you hear, say, Souveniers du autre monde (Memories from another world), studio version, it's him on all instruments.
He's beyond talented, and a super great guy in person.
He's writing with Jean more since Kodama.
Great vid as always, really enjoy your reactions. Are you guys planning on reacting to any of the new korn songs apart from the ones you've already done ? Keep up the great work 😁
The new song from Alcest is incredible "Protection" you should check it out
A live version of Écailles de Lune Pt. 1 would be awesome, it's one of the best songs ever made
more Alcest damn it ;) next Eclosion
Alcest play on Black Metal(not true :), but more deep) side too, and they very good in this.
I'm personal friends with the band.
If you go to my event/concert production channel, Forsaken Productions, there are clips of their 2012 presentation in my homeland Puerto Rico. Very nice and awesome guys...definite pioneers in the Blackgaze/Post-Black Metal movement 🖤🖤🖤
Altar of Plagues - burnt year
Summers Glory by Alcest is truly glorious.
Love this band. I would recommend "Là Où Naissent Les Couleurs Nouvelles" and the new one "Protection" is pretty special.
I agree with both songs. Both are masterpieces.
thanks for the video, guys
will be cool to have King Crimson reaction from you, as it's one of the most influential prog rock groups, and they really do have a lot of faces. i'd suggest Starless/21 Century Schizoid Man as the most fans beloved songs
Yes, we need a roots of Prog week. Not just Prog Metal, prog teaches music appreciation. I was listening to Close to the Edge on the way home this morning, what a great album.
You kids should review "The Black Pharaoh Trilogy" by The Vision Bleak. They've released records through the same label (Prophecy) as Alcest...
Shoegaze is basically Deftones. Nu Metal with space ambient feel(And, I know Chino doesn't like being coined in the Nu Metal sub genre but their sound has that feel otherwise). As for Alcest, They're Blackgaze but they don't have that traditional black metal ethos like Satanic lyrics, etc... In fact in some of their lyrics they talk about otherworldly Fairy Tale stuff(According to the vocalist) which kind of made me laugh and at the same time amazed me lol
Anyways, happy u guys have now done them
Hell yeah Alcest!!!
wait, am i dreaming? alcest is my favorite band!
Epica - Kingdom of heaven
Please please react to Les Discrets Aprés l'ombre or song for mountains
Siri’s impersonation of her “French” mehme(?) sounds like a Canadian and Boston accent mixed together lol
"Al-say" is apparently how it's pronounced. Don't worry, I was calling them ''Al-sest'' for nearly 6 years before I found it I was saying it wrong. Also their latest release Protection is one of their best tunes in my opinion, worth checking out anyway.
Finally some Alcest.
Moonspell - Full Moon Madness
Moonspell - Night Eternal
This band Is in the same environment as Agalloch the band you guys really liked. You definitely need to listen to the studio recordings of their work.
HOLY SHIT FINALLY
Shoegaze is just a hazier more experimental version of dream pop really. Deftones incorporates a little bit of gaze into their sound. Alcest is one of the first to put shoegaze and black metal together. Surprisingly the style really caught on around 2010 or so, and it resulted in the blackgaze band "Deafheaven" winning a Grammy for their 2013 album "Sunbather".
I don’t like those new “terms” like “blackgaze” at the beginning of the movement the actual genera was post-black metal shoegaze
Try Autre Temp by Alcest...
Studio version..... Simply majestic
Essential brutal death metal: Cryptopsy - Crown of Horns
This band is great. They have a new album releasing on Nuclear Blast. This song would have sounded better if you were at the concert, the audio of this live version didn’t do them any justice.
For this genre, they are pretty essential.
OMG.. Alcest.. never thought I'd see it. One of my favorite bands ever...
Next up, listen to Agalloch "In The Shadow of our Pale Companion" from The Mantle
Already done czcams.com/video/jVWHt2iAt4E/video.html
Loki the Cat they’ve already done it.
@@Raijin-RyuX24 thanks for that.. went and watched. +1
Savatage- Believe
surprised that nothing from Kodama was chosen, that is the most essential alcest in my opinion :)
limited by what quality live recordings we (more specifically bmfan) could find.
Yeeees
Hey Vin! I'm looking for some good books to read. Stuff like Carl Jung, Ram Das, the Bible...Lay it on me please!!! BTW I just subscribed. Wishing you guys tons of success and happiness!
Welcome to the Village! 🥰
megadeth - post american world
You guys should check out Left Hand Path by Entombed
You may be surprised later this week.
Vital Remains forever underground
Alcest-protection
Do this one: Iced Earth - hold at all costs
bloody hell atlast .. not being a patreon subscriber since i dont have a freaking bank account
We get ALCEST \m/
I really do hope Sori gets to listen to ANATHEMA - Untouchables ( Part 1 and 2 ) .. another great band which was never featured on this channel.
Get nyour tissues ready lol
Trees aren't inanimate. They are alive
Please, react to Empyrium or Katla, awesome bands.
pretty decent for indie rock
No, this is not pronounced "Alchest" but "Alsest".
REACT TO RATA BLANCA " LA LLAVE DE LA PUERTA SECRETA" OR "EL CIRCULO DEL FUEGO"
marcelo pichler mujer amante
Obviamente; temazo!!!!!
I have no idea how I discovered Alcest, but I've been a big fan for quite some time.
I only wish Neige would get guest vocalists in for the albums since his singing voice is not great.
Did they do any new POS reactions? I cant see any because of my country restrictions.
Yes, they did. I think 3 songs, if I am not mistaken.
But I recall like 10 reactions. They almost did the new album complete. But now I only see 3 reactions.
This was actually a good choice, but generally speaking they're not doing a very good job with the essentials. Gotte check out some early Helloween, 90s Stratovarius, Blind Guardian, Virgin Steele, Manowar, early Dream Theater, early Symphony X, Summoning, Bathory, Fates Warning the list goes on and on, but whomever is giving you lists of "essentials" is doing a shitty job.
1:59 You're wrong about that Vin, Alcest is actually pronounced how you pronounced it first.
the "chuh" is the same as in the English language, with ch.
React to Angra - Carolina Vl and Millennium Sun
Please, react to Mary on a cross-Ghost
considering their entire catalog. This song is a 4 out of 10.
Probably was because of copyright but for me the studio version is better.
Thanks for sharing the story with you and your mom, Vinjamin 😂😂😂
Oh thanks, Sori, for the subliminal shout out to the core alliance via the water bottle.
If i were teaching listening to metal music class, one of the essential bands is cynic. Cynic - Kings of Those Who Know.
DEMON HUNTER - THE NEGATIVE
Summoning -Flammifer
Septicflesh-the vampire from Nazareth please
angra - carolina iv
Faiseurs de mondes by Alcest
C'est un excellent groupe Français et de toute façon personne ici ne comprend ce que j'écris. Longue vie au métal francophone et vous devriez vous tournez vers Kataklysm, mais je sais que ça n'arrivera pas... tabarnak!
Bah si je comprends!
Mephorash - Sanguinem ---------Something you haven't try before
It's not Alchest but Alcest
ALICE IN CHAINS - GET BORN AGAIN
Please react to the new album the nothing korn
I like Alcest. I prefer Mol. Blasphemy, I know.
Guys if you are going to talk at the same time, at least separate your voices to left and right channels : D : D
Good band, by the way. : D
Though i am grateful you covered this, the audio is unbearable, for headphone listening at least.
