On my 10th birthday I got one in 1979. Brand new in Osceola, Indiana that was $400 which was a huge amount of money. The next year my brother got a 1980 Honda CR 80, which was the first year they made an 80cc MX bike. We were the baddest brothers in the land. Such wonderful days. Then in 1984, in the worst move of all, my dad moved us to Dublin, California, where they absolutely hated motorcycles. So my dad sold them. The customer came over, we started them for a couple of minutes to prove that they ran well. Sure enough the neighbors called the police. The fucking police!! Can you imagine that call?
    Hello, 911, what's your emergency?
Some young teenagers have started their motorcycles, hurry, we don't have much time left. I can feel my world going black, we'll be dead soon.
Hang on, we're sending a tactical response unit immediately. No one starts 2 strokes in California, no one!

My cousin and I also bought and owned a 1980 Yamaha YZ-80 "Bumble Bee" new and I owned it until 1989 when I foolishly sold it. It was crazy fast for a 80cc 2-stroke and would easily keep up with or beat 100cc and 125 4-stroke "trail bikes". I still cringe at 4-stroke dirt bikes even today because of that bike. That isn't all that uncommon...it's your location that is of special interest. We are from right next to you. My cousin is from a farm in Bremen Indiana. I am from outside of Bristol Indiana another rural small town of 1,620 people in Elkhart County. Small world man....same bike +1 model year and same part of North Central Indiana. We had all kinds of places to ride both at our houses and on public tracks. There was a small public race track in Elkhart on the Northeast side off Osolo Road we used to race at too. It's now a subdivision that has houses on it. That is where I found out exactly how fast our bike was. It would put a hurting on 100cc and 125cc 4-stroke "enduros" as we called them. Just tear them up and eat them for breakfast walking away from them in the turns, whoops and jumps. I wish I never sold that bike and had it back....it was very cool.

I don't remember where my uncle and cousin said they bought our bike at. It had to have been from a Yamaha dealer in Plymouth, Bremen, Lakeville or Osceola, Mishawaka, South Bend area. Just know it didn't come from North End Cycle in Elkhart. I wasn't along with them when they picked it up that day. It just showed up and after seeing it I wanted "in" and gave them half of my cut for it.

The one in this video needs rebuilt and restored. This kid has one all rebuilt and you can see me warning him in the comments about it. My cousin and I owned a 1980 Yamaha YZ-80 like this "Bumble Bee" from 1980 - 1989. It was a very fast bike given it's 80cc size.

Ours were "Bumble Bee" as we called them. I had a 1980 Yamaha YZ-80 my cousin and I bought new. I owned it until 1989 when I foolishly sold it. I wish I still had it back today. These 2-strokes ripped and were very fast for their 80cc size. The 4-stroke bikes they make today are slow compared to ours. These are still fun to ride as a adult. On 4-stroke bikes you need a 250cc or bigger.

I'm 38 years old and far too big for this bike but I would kill for one.. I had a 79 yz80 when I was about 11 and it was an old bike back then but it was my first geared bike and it felt fast! I'd love one now to restore and keep
