Love that the 33mm exists. It makes the 35 cheaper.

    Nice brief comparison.
As an owner of the 35mm F/1.4 I don't feel the need to "upgrade" to the 33mm. As I only work in photo at this focal length and I do not want clinical photos the "character" works well; however, if i was looking to purchase a 50mm Eqv. and didn't own either, I'd definitely buy the 33mm out of the 2, however as I own other fast lenses (56mm and 23mm) I'd be tempted to not get the 35mm F/1.4 or 33mm F/1.4, and get the 30mm F/2.8 Macro (this is discounting all other brands that produce a similar focal length too, and the amazing Value for money XC 35mm F/2.0, of XF 35mm F/2.0 if you want WR and better build but same glass as XC)

Ive just bought the 35mm 1.4. I love the design, how it feels, even sounds, along with the colour rendition and bokeh. Using it today for some street photography was a little disconcerting as most of the images seemed to be focusing behind my subjects (using an xt3). Ive a feeling it is user error on my part; so many things to learn in the Fuji system. Thank you for your review and comparison 👍🏻

Try single point focus, put it dead center, focus on your subject, hold shutter half depressed, recompose if need be, take the shot. Works best for me.

@@kurteisenlohr Thanks for your suggestion, Kurt. I decided to return the lens and purchased another 35mm 1.4. So far, all good :)

Can we really compare those lenses? The 35 is kind of special with the sharpness to softness transitions the dramatic roll off makes the subject pop like in a 3d effects. The 33 is a more modern type lenses and it's freaking good .Its different and not an upgrade, i have both for different reasons. It's not always about sharpness it's also about the caracther of it.

    A photograph is taken by a person,not a lens.
