Many of my Generation was in love with Stevie Nicks. ( maybe still am ) Now in my 70s
Imagine being 20 years old and turning on the tv and seeing THIS!!!!!
I first heard this live version of Rhiannon on The Old Grey Whistle Test in (I think) 1977 when I was 18. Absolutely stunning and, to me at least, the greatest rock performance ever.
Rhiannon is a character from Welsh myth, notably the first and third branch of the very old oral stories called Y Mabenogion, which were finally written down in the 1100s. Rhiannon wasn't a witch, but was the Goddess of the Sun, also associated with both inspiration and horses. It remains a popular girl's name in Wales today.
Before the internet TV programs like Midnight Special were the only way most of us could see our favorite bands semi-live.
The live version of "Silver Spring" from their show called The Dance is absolutely amazing. Very emotionally intense. Stevie can tear your soul out with her eyes.
The live version from 1997 is an absolute MUST!!!!
It's so dramatic. I love it!
YES!!! It's ABSOLUTELY a MUST in a Fleetwood Mac journey!!👊❤❤❤
the dance is 1 of the best concerts ever filmed
Because of this song, the way she dressed, a lot of people thought she was an actual witch. She wasn't. She just liked flowing clothes.
You sure she wasn't? 😂 jk of course
@@barsandbarbells2022 She has adamantly denied being a witch many times over the years. She actually got upset that people kept saying that. I'm quite sure she is not. Because of the song being about a Welsh Witch and the way she dressed, people just assumed and stereotyped her for that.
@@ajruther67I don’t think she’s a witch, but I do appreciate that she eventually chose to lean pretty hard into that rumor on AHS Coven.
@@barsandbarbells2022 not a witch but she definitely puts us into her spell every time she steps on stage.
A Witch!!! She turned me into a Newt! 😉
This is definitely better than the album/studio version.
Agreed. Silver springs performed at The Dance 1997. You can feel the passion. It is an amazing performance.
Original Fleetwood mac band
Peter Greens Fleetwood Mac is great
Tracks like
"Black Magic Woman"
"Need Your Love So Bad"
"Man of the World"
"Love That Burns"
"Loved Another Woman"
"Albatross"
Silver Springs, live from The Dance Concert. The performance is intense. Stevie begins looking at Lindsey early on in the song, as she wrote it about/
for him! She is heart broken and lets him know it by the end of the song...as she is literally screaming the song at him. This performance is jaw dropping and so emotional. Pay attention to the lyrics, they matter.
Yes! It's incredible, and definitely pay attention to the lyrics as Stevie wrote the song about/to Lindsey!! The emotion she's feeling while singing that to him, staring straight in his eyes... is soul-piercing!!! Although slightly scary!😅 She was damn near shooting daggers at Lindsey with her eye! lol!!!😜🤣😂
@tinagilbert8902 , oh yes...she solidly squared up to him..looking him in the eyes and letting him know she means every bit of the lyrics!!
Stevie Nicks is a Goddess !!!!! Stick with Nicks !!
Stevie Nicks was always famous for wearing those long flowing material dresses.
that's how alot of us dressed then...wasn't anything new,or so different from the hippie dresses, skirts and shaws.
The band had been around since the 60's but this rendition consisted of drummer Mick Fleetwood, bass John McVie, McVie's onetime wife Christine McVie on keyboards. Get it, Fleetwood & Mac. Around 1975 they teamed up with the California couple of Stevie Nicks & Lindsey Buckingham.
They released the album Rumours, which was the #1 album for 30 straight weeks in 1977.
Do The Chain 1982 Live!!! Epic performance! Wrote the song while the couples were breaking u! ❤️❤️❤️❤️
Loved it when you said “oh oh” right before she took off lol
For more Stevie Nicks, you should listen to *Leather and Lace* with Don Henley of the Eagles.
" Landslide" should be on your menu!
Some of the best songs by Stevie Nicks is BEFORE she and Lindsey joined Fleetwood Mac. The Buckingham Nicks album is an album that was never promoted. It is EXCELLENT. Great songs are Long Distance Winner, Races Are Run, Crying In The Night, Crystal, and the monumental Frozen Love. You cannot go wrong with any of the songs. Great reactions!
Love that album!! I still have my vinyl record. The recording is available on CZcams, for your continued enjoyment!!
Agree. One of my favorite albums back in the 70s. Had it on 8-track.
I agree with you. I have an autographed copy of it.
I pulled a cassette of the Buckingham Nicks album out of a bargain bin at the record store in the 1970s.That was my first exposure to them.
I remember seeing this back in 1976 watching the Midnight Special. A friend and I with our girlfriends were hanging out in his room. Little toke, some Boones Farm wine and he had TV hooked up to his stereo. We were just mesmerized by the song and her powerful vocals . Afterwards we were just speechless.
Looking back on it almost 50 years later it still rocks my world
You’ve just experienced the 🐐 🐐!
Yes, as everyone has said, Silver Springs live.
Phil and Sam, as suggested, Silver Springs is a must. Stevie wrote the song after her and Lyndsey’s final break-up. They were in Aspen, CO. After the argument, Lyndsey left Stevie stranded (sited: Stevie Nicks - Gold Dust Woman)
The lyrics are powerful, not poetic. And the live performance will show their love & pain will never die.
Great reaction guys... Stevie absolutely kills it in this video! Lindsey is a largely underated guitarists, and the rest of the band is fantastic. Especially when they settle into that groove.
There are so many amazing performances from various artists on the Midnight Special.
Best present my kids ever gave me were tickets to see Fleetwood Mac in concert. My son came up with the idea but could not go so my two daughters and I went to the concert. It was great and I'll never forget it. Seeing them live was even better than hearing them on recordings or videos.
This is the California version of Fleetwood Mac. They were originally a British blues, blues rock outfit founded by guitar legend Peter Green. He had his mates take the band name, Mick Fleetwood, the drummer, and John McVie, the bass player. The first album was called Peter Green's Fleetwood Mac because the record company wanted his name for recognition and promotion. (He was a big name from John Mayall and the Bluesbreakers)
Stevie at her absolute best in this performance.
The Midnight Special was noted for featuring musical acts performing live, which was unusual since most television appearances before and during the era showed performers lip-synching to prerecorded music. It was an American late-night musical variety series originally broadcast on NBC. It premiered on August 19, 1972, and then began its run as a regular series from February 3, 1973 to March 27, 1981. The 90-minute program aired on Saturday mornings at 1 a.m. ET/PT after the Friday night edition of The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson.
Correct, the live performances made this show special, although in later years there were some lip-sync performances, they were rare. It was unusual to have live performances on TV, but one notable exception was Ed Sullivan, he required the acts on his show to perform live because he knew the energy was better. There were some cases he accepted a lip-sync performance but not often.
I remember staying up late to watch it 😅
Rumours is arguably one of the best albums of all time
Arguably? Anyone arguing against that is... misinformed, to put it politely.
This song is from the 1975 album Fleetwood Mac
I bought the album in college back in the 70s, along with a couple hundred others, but I'd put it somewhere around #25.
Nothing to argue about.
@@enzo.g4843technically there's also a live recording of this song on rumours deluxe
The 70’s...what talent. One of the best!😎🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
SN was & is a special blend of talents. Vocals, song writing, stage presence, all these combined produces greatness unmatched. Top 3 female R&R artist of all time. Oh yea 2 time RHF member. GREATNESS!!!!
And cocain
According to a Rolling Stone article, the Midnight Special version of “Rhiannon” is a different beast from the smooth studio version you’ve heard a million times. 1976 live performance of “Rhiannon” on The Midnight Special was great even without any studio equipment and part of the appeal comes from how Stevie Nicks deliberately tries to set this apart from what plays on the radio and what was recorded in the studio.
'The Dance'...their last big tour was captured in it's entirety on video. 'Silver Springs'...a song Stevie wrote back around the time this album came out, you can see her directing it toward Linsay Buckingham ( the dude on the lead guitar ) & I think she captures the full persona of her witch-like character in 'Gold Dust WOMAN' IN THIS CONCERT ALSO.
"Edge of Seventeen" is my fave Stevie Nicks solo song! Its such a different vibe to the Fleetwood Mac stuff, I cant even describe it properly! But it's awesome!! 😮❤
watch the live version of Silver Springs to see a totally different vibe between Stevie and Lindsey. lol
This is a beautiful, mystical song about a witch. I would love to hear Diana Ankudinova sing a version of this.
Hi.. when you stopped and said Stevie was locked in I said to myself “wait until the end”
Lyndsey Buckingham was the lead guitarist primary male song writer/singer he dated Stevie for awhile Christine Mcvie on piano and Backing vocals. She had a few of her own songs Little lies being one of them. She passed away not long ago. Her husband John Mcvie played bass guitar Mic Fleetwood on the drums. Thats was pretty much it. When the Mcvies where with them they were a force to be reckoned with.
Stevie Nicks is my queen. I love her music, her voice, her creativity.
I was lucky enough to see Fleetwood Mac! Saw them perform this on Midnight Special!
There is an even better version to this one. The BBC (UK) had a very famous music show in the 70’s / 80’s called ‘The Old Grey Whistle Test’ and they went to record Fleetwood Mac doing this song and to make sure they got the recording right they filmed the rehearsal…..it was so epic and everyone was so blown away by the performance, that was the recording they used.
Find it, watch it and be amazed…..Stevie, Lindsey & Mick just all take up a level from this performance. I think it’s is now classed as the official music video for this song.
I think that version is just the rehersal to this version, as the stage setup is the same. I agree the rehersal is the far better performance.
@@zel3888 me too
The end of that rendition has always given me goosebumps. Something about the way Stevie Nicks delivers it just resonates.
Absolutely love this! Always been one of my favorites❤
The Midnight Special, geeez I miss those days of my mid teens when it was on the TV. Best part was that all the performances on the show were live and we couldn't wait between Saturdays to see who was on the next week.
This is the song that got me into Fleetwood Mac and into Stevie Nicks. Never got to see Fleetwood Mac but did see Stevie in 1983 and 1989 and I recommend checking out Stevie's solo work.
You should also check out I'm So Afraid that was on the same album as Rhiannon because it has a banger solo from Lindsay Buckingham.
When I saw them, during the piano solo, when she was dancing you would sworn dhe was going to float off the stage. I wopuld suggest you watch The Chain from the second lp, by this lineup. All the couples were breaking up, and the tension just added to the power of the song. R.i.p. Christine Mcvie. She was a keyboardist, singer, and songwriter. You will live on through your music,
This is the number one video of this song.
Also, don't forget to check out Stevie Nicks' solo albums, particularly "Bella Donna"..... that album is amazing! From start to finish, absolutely amazing!!!
FM is my favorite 70's rock band. Stevie has been my musical idol for 40 years, since I was 14. She is beautiful, mesmerizing, and amazing! This is my FAVORITE version of this song. I've seen them in concert twice and Stevie by herself in 2016 in Chicago. They put on a great concert.
Stevie isn't playing a "character". It's just who she is. She started wearing big flowy clothing because of how petite she is. She is only 5'1, so she said she would sometimes get all gobbled up in the mix. She stood out a lot more when her outfits made a statement for her. She has a beautiful presence.
Her and the guitarist (Lindsey Buckingham) were a couple for 8 years and broke up shortly after joining FM in Dec. 1974. Also, the keyboardist (Christine McVie) and the bassist (John McVie) went through a divorce around the same time. There was A LOT of turmoil, cocaine, pot, and alcohol abuse. There is so much history in this band.
R.I.P Christine McVie 😥
WOW... that was wicked... 😍
R.I.P. Christy
You need to react to songs featuring the late great Christie McVie. "Everywhere,Songbird, You make Loving Fun and more!
You guys need to do some lead vocals by the under appreciated Christine McVie who actually played with them since the beginning and became an official member in 1970, many years befor Stevie and Lindsay joined them to make them more a pop rock band rather than a bluesy rock band. Here are a couple of brilliantly soothing and soulful ones by Christine, Songbird and Over My Head, as well as You Make Loving Fun!
I heard that "Oh wow" aty the end. so much for "Nothing that makes me go 'wow'."
Love when Stevie goes off on this one.
LEGENDARY!!! Great reaction to a legendary band,
Another GREAT performance of 'Rhiannon' is from their rehearsal!! It's just as great as the Midnight Special performance!
got to see fleetwood mac, and stevie nicks....only band i saw twice!!!! love her
I saw this live back in the day and I still can't get over the incredible camera work .They just showed Stevie at her witchiest best !
This was pretty cool. I still like the album version better but I really did like the piano break. Midnight Special was a TV show back a long time ago. I watched this live performance on TV. I was younger than you guys then. Before you move on to their later stuff, listen to Blue Letter, Monday Morning and Go Your Own Way. Much love ❤️
Such a deep rabbit hole
this is the moment i fell in love with stevie nicks. i was about 5 or 6 years old.
So lucky to have The Midnight Special growing up.....
live BIG LOVE is the best solo masterful guitar playing and singing by Lindsey, will blow your mind
Black Magic Woman, or OH Well , by the Peter Green lead Fleetwood Mac era. I just chose these two, but there are others that could (and should) be considered.
"SILVER SPRINGS" live 1997 (The Dance concert)... it's a must on a Fleetwood Mac journey!!😁 Great reaction guys!!❤❤❤
First tine I saw them was in 1977 during their Rumours tour. Had a big crush on Stevie.
Stevie is the bomb
Tour de force from Stevie Nicks and the band
Thank you for your reaction to this, nice job guys 👍👍 , Nicks, she is a great, and a great person !!
This was an amazing performance
Can't go wrong with The Midnight Special
The guitar player is Lindsey Buckingham. A reaction to him performing Big Love ( live ) is amazing 👌🏼
Possessed? !!! Please watch: Gold Dust Woman The 24 Karat Concert. She was 70! You will not see anything else like this. AMAZING! POSSESSED AGAIN.
Stevie Nicks my favorite female singer
Great great live version! One of my favorites!! They were awesome in the early days!! Sooo great!!❤️❤️❤️
Stevie always dressed in flowing lace.....Silver Springs and Landslide live........studio for Gypsy, Sara, and Gold Dust Woman
❤ them seen twice in concert have albums 💖😍
7-8 times for me,in s.ca, in L.A., orange county or san diego, never missed one show, hit on a fri and sat night the same week-end san diego...at that time tickets ranged from 16$ to 35,depending on your scalper....Hell,P.F.The Wall in L.A. was 75$ early 80s...and shoot we thought that was high....😂cheapest tickets i ever got were for Alice Cooper ,san bernadino,71.....10$ could have been 8 but they were'nt stage tickets ,,,standing only...and no...no chicken or feathers included..lol
Hi Phil n Sam… i’m a little late to the party, this video is almost a month old and you may never see this, but I want to thank you for doing this song and especially this version, it has a special place in my heart! When I was six my first cat was named Rhiannon after this song, and this was my very first concert back in 1978, I was nine, my parents took me and it was Halloween…super special! I saw Stevie Nicks on her own years later as an adult in a magical place, Red Rocks Colorado, where she sang Landslide which she rarely did live on her own post Fleetwood Mac, but she wrote it close to there, Aspen, and did it special for us, it was amazing…another sweet little memory on my heart. 💙🌌 That had to of been early 90s and I can still put myself there.✨ so definitely put Landslide on your Fleetwood Mac to do list, and then my favorite non-Stevie and Lindsay Fleetwood Mac songs are Hypnotized and Oh Well.✌😎
My wife is called Rhiannon.
This is Her favorite band because of it.
She is of Welsh heritage and it's most definitely a unique name.
Stevie ruled the 70s. Many a guy had her poster on their wall
Stevie and Lindsay already parted ways when this was performed…
You couldn’t have found a better version of this. Stevie Nicks is captivating.
If you read the liner notes, you will see that songs written by Stevie Nicks are published by Welsh Witch Music
Stevie was an animal in her day. One of the best to do it!
The band was virtually "Peyton Place" (if you get that reference) when it made the iconic album "Rumours".
love fleetwood mac
elo was called, The MOVE, with roy wood and jeff lynne with bev bevan on drums
Hence the reason she had vocal issues for years before hiring a vocal coach. Try singing like that nights and weeks on end, it was only a year later when she started feeling it. Thankfully she got help and as of last year still practically blew us out of Great Woods arena near Boston Mass
Now do this song from The Dance. Keep in mind it's decades later. It's my favorite version of this song, as there are many! You'll find it quite different from this version. Its simply beautiful ❤️ ANY SONG from The Dance is recommended.
I think what you've failed to realize, this was a TV show in the 70s with huge spotlights shining in your eyes and raising the temperature on stage 20 degrees Plus!( there was no LED lights they were incandescent lights that created huge Heat) There was no Auto-Tune nor computer enhancements this was raw TV footage in the seventies!
I used to go to Mick Fleetwood's (the drummer) Bar on the beach in Maui. Sadly it was burned to the ground during the Maui fires. I was a great place for
a drink and some great music.
Next, do "Don't Stop" live with the USC Marching Band !
The Chain, 1982...like watching your parents fight from the kitchen.
FYI, Stevie dabbled in witchcraft a bit. She was a guest star on American Horror Story one season and played a witch.
RIAHNON comes from the Welsh book of Myth & Magic called " The Magabinogion" Riahnon comes from one of the stories !!
watch the video called " gypsy " by fleetwood mac, voted as one of the greatest music video's ever made, and it was in this video that people learned that stevie nicks was also a classical dancer, including ballet !!
"Dreams" by Fleetwood Mac "live" is still my favorite vocal performance from Stevie. It was recorded a year later than this live recording and it shows Stevie's vocal maturity and range better, I think.
Stevie was also one of the most gorgeous women around at the time. And still a looker! She had a hypnotic effect on us guys. And everyone, actually!
THANKS FOR LISTENING TO THE PEOPLE!!! You guys should run for office 😉😉
😂 no thank you! lol
I was fortunate enough to be able to see Fleetwood Mac on back to back nights in Edmonton,Alberta at the then Northlands Coliseum in May 1981 during their "Tusk: tour.2nd night I was 3 rows from the stage in front of Stevie! She's been my favourite female singer ever since. A 2 time member of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, one with Fleetwood Mac and the other as a solo artist.Simply the best!
