I haven't been able to part with my paleo beaver lake point that is my most viewed vid at 1.8 mil views...it's worth thousands. So.,I would have to bring people together and the stars would have to align perfect for me to do such a vid unfortunately. What do you use for your sifters mesh? Most I see are done up with 1/2" or 1/4" hardware cloth, & thats what i currently use, but yours looks finer, & I like it & would like to copy it. Also, what state are you hunting these in? I am in north georgia & hunt a small creek near my house. Its loaded with flakes/debitage/partials, but I havent found anything full yet.

    • @Theditchwalker
      @Theditchwalker  Před rokem +3

      This is actually one of those yard firepit tops. I left the factory mesh on it and put half inch hardware cloth because I felt the factory mesh wouldn't hold up. I kinda wish I would have taken the factory mesh off because I feel it catches too much of the finer material...however.,I may have lost that birdpoint if it weren't on there. If I were you and hadn't found anything whole in that creek yet..,I would move upstream a little at a time....I've seen where flakes and other lighter stuff will get washed farther downstream than the heavier full points....hope this helps...I am hunting in Northern Mississippi

    • @blefnefnef
      @blefnefnef Před rokem

      @@Theditchwalker Thank you sir, it helps a lot actually! Thank you for the reply as well! I have another question - have you ever seen gold or pyrite in an artifact? A lot of the flakes or debitage I'm finding have either gold or pyrite; quartz debitage with black specks or lines in it. Very dark but when held up to a light or the sun, crystal clear. I find mostly quartz based stuff.. Lotta feldspar too. Some flint/ chert, some slate, a few others. A few I've found are made out of garnet or olivine. Lotta cooked material. I started with a half inch gold sifter & pan, then moved up to quarter inch sifter so I could catch the finer stuff. I've built some larger wooden ones or pvc ones with 1/2 inch or 1/4inch hardware cloth, & pool floats zip tied on but still mainly use my pans half inch sifter, since im going after gold too.. albeit painstakingly slow, I want the gold too lol. Quarter inch is good too - but i like how ultrafine yours is; doesnt let much more than sand through. I feel like your setup would be perfect for hunting fossils & artifacts in fl/south ga. & I'm about as far up the creek on my property as I can go, but I can talk to my neighbors and see if they're cool lol - I appreciate that tip a ton, that helps so much & so did the info about your yard fireplace topper - I love your ingenuity! You find such beautiful pieces. Im actually park cherokee, a very small part, & finding artifacts that could have been from a distant ancestor has been an amazing, enlightening, life changing experience. I'd like to thank you as well for helping me on my journey by inspiring me to get out there & start hunting for artifacts, & for your knowledge in general. Thank you for preserving these pieces of history as well. You're welcome to come hunt at my place any time, if you're ever in georgia, or looking to travel! Just drop an email or lmk to if youre interested. Happy hunting!

    AMAZING…but WHO WERE THEY???

    • @Theditchwalker
      @Theditchwalker  Před rokem +3

      Woodland period peoples were getting domesticated...they had villages and hunted.,fished and farmed. They lived in a colony of huts and everyone had there assigned jobs...point and tool manufacturers.,pottery makers.,hunter gatherers. There is evidence that they were beginning to domesticate animals. I could go on but I have to get to work...🙂...thanks for commenting

      So I gotta get some pointers. Where I live there a good running creek. Up on land where bull dozer has pulled dirt up from creek, I can find tons of flakes and whole points. Mostly red Jasper. How can I find them in the creek water without pulling up on land?? How deep to dig, where to dig in water. Just getting no results in creek water when I dig

      Walk your creek till you find a mounded up sand deposit. Or where a log is caught up in the creek. Good little catch all. Just have to dig around and sift them out

    Have you considered getting local university help and excavating the bank at the fire pit/hearth? Why did you label the drills as flakes?

    • @Theditchwalker
      @Theditchwalker  Před rokem +1

      I've talked to archeologists...that's as far as it went...very difficult to almost impossible to pinpoint where these things are coming out of the bank because of all the sand.. I don't think I labeled the drills as flakes...appreciate you commenting sir

      He's not there to make videos on cleaning out glass. He's there to find arrowheads and artifacts. If you're so concerned about the glass, get on out there and make your own videos cleaning out glass. Then you can watch it all you want and do something you are interested in. Win, win!
