If we’re doing a prequel deep dive, then Barriss Offee, Shaak Ti, Luminara Unduli, and Ki Adi Mundi are obvious choices. Let’s hope Hasbro gets this right.

Last year about this time I collected the main 20 Jedi that fought during the Clone Wars in 3.75 scale. 3.75 is the only way to get most of them right now unfortunately. I’d love to see a Black Series Oppo Rancisis or Coleman Kcaj.

I really appreciate this "essay" video, as you call it. Fair, thoughtful, and comprehensive. And all of your vids are very watchable. I'm a child of the OT who isn't a collector but picked up a few Black Series figs for nostalgia value in 2023-- the newest R2 and R5, the archive C-3PO-- based on your reviews. Looking forward to more. Keep up the good work!
Bottom line is prices are to high on figures. Most folks do not have disposable income like they once did. They need to get back to normal pricing and also listen to the fans. They also release the same figure with minor differences over and over and over.
It's more that the price doesn't reflect the value accurately. It wasn't a big deal for a figure to only come with one accessory at $20. It is a big deal for a figure to cost $25+ to only come with one accessory. They need to give more value to justify the high prices.

Hasbro/Disney/Star Wars is saving me a lot of money. It's so crazy to me that you can take an ultra fan like me, I'm the trifecta.... I love movies, love video games and collect action figures like a crack addict and I don't give a fuck about any of it anymore. The only way I enjoy my passions are off the things I already own....
I have also heard from Lukeness Monster that the BS prices will go up later this year to $29.99. If I were you, I check the stores websites and if you find any on clearance, get now! Once they're gone, they're gone.
I'm an OT guy so aside from any OT releases I've stopped collecting anything Star Wars from Hasbro. The new stuff just doesn't do it for me. I'm not concerned about character selection or declining quality on their products. What does concern me is the financial reports. Hasbro is in pretty deep doo-doo! They are in a situation where they may soon be unable to pay off their dividends to shareholders. Possible results may be pay less dividends, take out a loan or cut more employees. Several of those actions would down grade Hasbro's already declining stock. The $$$ they pay Disney for the distribution rights to Star Wars and Marvel doesn't help. That's concerning for sure.
Really great insights! I appreciate you balancing your worries and optimism as I've been hearing nothing but doom and gloom since the January Livestream. We are definitely in a lull right now as Hasbro packed the Q4 schedule (to try and finish the calendar year on a high note), but the newly announced two-packs and heavier Prequel/CW emphasis tells me that they are likely scaling down inventory a bit and targeting more of what they think will work right off the bat. That may mean more popular releases (troopers, Jedi, etc.) but perhaps at the expense of riskier new sculpts like Cantina aliens and other OT background characters. We'll see how it all works out, and while I share many of the same worries, I think there's still lots to be excited about!
Great video essay. I’m a huge fan of your work. I would love to see some more tutorials on making custom figures. The lack of expressive hands is my least favorite part of black series figures. I’d love to see a video just dedicated to the different fodder hands you use on your various figures
I appreciate how fair and even handed you are in this video. Too many videos talking about the state of a line or company will either go full Mortal Kombat Fatality or downplay issues.
The overproduction due to temporarily increased demand cannot be emphasised enough. There are definitely figures that end up on clearance because they're not popular (the Eternals figures deserve their meme status, and I *like* that movie), but I think that is also a big contributing factor that is often overlooked.
Here's hoping the Black Series rights the ship. At least we're getting some long-awaited figures soon, and hopefully Hasbro Pulse becomes available for Australians soon.

I really hope to see the bird mask inquisitor from tales of the jedi in 2024. Also, my extremely longshot figure would be seeing darth talon, but as there is no Oola or slave Leia on the horizon, it looks highly doubtful.
What collectors want? Not paying 30% + prices in Europe compared to the US.

Couldn’t agree more, Luke. People are flipping out over the livestream, but the team tried to temper expectations. I didn’t even think it was a problem anyway, I’m very hyped about the Droideka and Thrawn! Plus like you said, the beginning of the year is ALWAYS slow; collectors have short memories lol.
This year we are getting a Prequel Anniversary Mini-Beat, more EU Legends figures, and even Clones of the Galactic Republic for the cloners lol. That’s a huge amount of fan favorite releases.
In addition, I’m also VERY excited for the retooled figures Yak talked about on BSC. Once people hear that this weekend, hopefully there will be more positivity about this line. 2023 was the best year for the Black Series yet, and 2024 looks to be even better yet!

I will say that I started collecting back in November of 2021 and my first black series was the Mandalorian stormtrooper. I remember how fun it was to pose the figure. This sparked my interesting in collecting and customizing. Now cut to the present and I have spent more than I should on these figures and I want to completely stop. I am almost done with my main collection of black series, with specific figures. I just want to finish some custom projects so I may stop because I don’t want this to drag on more than it already I have been. The only way I would buy black series again if they release the characters that I have, only much better interns of accuracy and how much it has improved compared to the previous ones.

I would love to see High Republic figures. There are so many good characters, which would make great figures. (Bell and Ember for example). But there is not much money to make, because non reader do not know them. At least, Vernestra Rhow will get one because of The Acolyte, i think.

What stands are you using for the black series figures? The black hexagonal ones.
Having been on the Black Series bandwagon since it started, I have now all but abaondoned the line, and most things SW Disney including selling off my Black Series from the Sequels (which still stick in my craw as very weak movies & few worthwhile figures. I now concentrate on my TVC collection. I may pick up some of the new Prequel figures since they are from the Lucas era ... before the Dark Times ... Before Disney !

I actually enjoyed this video. I've been disappointed in Hasbro and the black series releases recently but I love how hopeful this video is. I hope things change for the better as well.

My biggest problem is there's clearly very little wiggle room for the team to fully design legacy characters to put into the line with the constant dedication to newer content being released.
New shows or seasons to existing ones are annual at this point, and Disney is pushing Hasbro to make products for them as a way to promote.
It sucks because we as the customer are screaming at this team to make what we want, but can only supply that huge list through pockets at a time. That confinement with time is shown with Pre Vizla, as the reuse was clear they wanted to meet our demands but just didn't have the time to sculpt it the way they should being doing at this point.
Glad to know the dark saber mando is a must have, I’ve been eying it on Mercari for a while.

So true, some collectors need calm down & not get hysterical if they are not happy with certain reveals, hasbro just can't please everyone I guess & I prefer that they generally don't rush out figs because mistakes can be made such as certain figs from the ashoka wave no need to say because we all know which ones lol, every company makes mistakes or drops the ball sometimes, but in my opinion for the past five years or so the black series each year the figs are leveling up & getting better & better, like we just seen with the recent glavis ring world upgraded mando fig,long may it continue,great vid as always,keep up the great work, we appreciate you
Whats wrong with marrok? Hes my favorite figure in that ahsoka first wave given the ahsoka herself is a repeat. I really want more inquisitors and marrok has a great mold and articulation, my only complaint is i which they released him and other inquisitors with multiple hilts in each form they take.
The ezra was great but several years too late. Im still enjoying clone wars maul and ventress probably my favorite figures since grievous. I really hope they re-release the clone wars anakin and obiwan with better hands ( like rotj vaders ) to flank the new kid ahsoka. And im very happy to finally have more battle droid types. My fondest hopes this year are clone wars sidious, opress, mother talzin, and prince xisor
I mean, it's your channel and you can do what you want with i, But I think you shouldn't incorporate some Star Wars hot toys. I think your channel would do a lot better with it.

I think the biggest problem with the Black Series is that people expect Hot Toys level quality, while also expecting lower prices, while also include unholy amount of obscure characters, and an impressive amount of accessories, all the while not even buy those amazing figures that come out and thwn complain about Hasbro not listening to fans
Collectors aren't Hasbro's main source of income. Case and point, as long as Kuiil figures don't sell, then it makes no sense for Hasbro to add niche characters or weird aliens, Luke Skywalker figures will ALWAYS fly off the shelves, Vader figures will fly even quicker, hammerhead or Yakface, the glup shittos that appear in 1 frame of the OT won't.

How do you think the customization influences Hasbro? I collect mainly for photography. I like Hasbros quality, for the most part. I'm a bit new to collecting. A bit sad for casual collectors I feel.
Idk but if it’s not explicitly stated that they can’t in their contracts, it’s highly likely Hasbro is gonna severely skimp on quality for some franchises, especially for marvel and Star Wars this year just to save money. Hell there’s rumours of them even dropping Disney all together

Yeah sometimes it's embarrassing to see the insane amount of toxicity in the Hasbro livestream chat. Being a Black Series collector it's almost a necessity to have the ability to ignore the negativity that comes from that faction of the community. The biggest disappointment is when a new collector posts pictures of the new figure they bought on a forum like Reddit. It's almost guaranteed multiple people will feel compelled to say how much they think the figure sucks or that we should've gotten this other figure instead of the one the person bought.
It definitely sucks to see but that's why I love the creators like Luke who have helped to curate a positive community.
I know all of you are going to disagree with me of what i am about to say but what if this new black Series five pack and the figures could be the Rest of the Knights Of Ren. Because we only got one we need more and i would've image they would've look great on anyone's shelf especially with Black Series Kylo Ren Figure laying around if you guys have one with all six of the them Despite what about you say about the Sequel trilogy or the toy sales on them the screen time they got in Rise Of Skywalker etc.

Although they haven't fixed their height issue they did fix the lightsaber color already. In the past Hasbro fixed the height of Boushh Leia when they re-released her in the Archive line.
About being disappointed with the Hasbro livestreams… Sounds like it’s more of a collector problem than a Hasbro problem.

Honestly with hasbro im focused on tvc. Bs is ok but doesnt scale with other lines as theyre quite small and lack the articulation of ml and other hasbro lines. Bs got both s1 and 2 bad batch andor stuff and ahsoka. Tvc didnt and goe inaccurate kitbashes and rerepaints. Tvc has a host coming and until then. No effort put into putting a ghost crew in the tvc while bs got 2 issues of them.
Hasbro: If only we had had more content. Nothing else we can do with Black series atm...

I wish we could get their exclusive clones though. I really want the remaining battlefront and the 4 kamino arc troopers on my shelf and every TBS arc trooper is too expensive to buy 7 of for customs.
Hasbro doesn't have any idea of distribution and they don't really care....Why they keep making millions of the same stupid character but they keep making less and less of army troopers like a regular freakin stormtrooper making them imposible to find anywhere....dont be naive....its not a new issue, the pegs are full os weird characters that nobody cares about but the ones that can be an asset to a collection they never show up....sorry but this story Ive seen it since 2014 after they started making stores exclusives, before that you could find any figure even at Walgreens.....
I love that you are trying to rationalize with the irrational. Marvel legends fans and Black Series fans are so toxic that Hasbro is no longer investing in them. Fewer toy releases, and a very distant interaction with the “fandom” the juice isn’t worth the squeeze for Hasbro. It won’t be long before they let these license go.

If I had once piece of advice to anyone wanting to start collecting Black Series it would be DONT DO IT! All that will happen is disappointment. Poor design choices. Overpriced beyond comprehension. And worst of all Hasbro REFUSES to make the changes needed to make Black series great again.
When exactly was Black Series great? The line has never been better. 2020 onward has seen an influx in design, engineering, articulation, character variety, an increase in new sculpts, etc.

I hear your concerns... But your shelf is totally working against your argument lol beautiful shelf! The figures are great. Totally worth the wait. The only thing that ticks me off is the build quality seems to be getting cheaper on some products, rubbery not as good plastic. But all things considered those figures look great 💯👍

Hasbro might have been a great toy company once when they didn't have much competitions. However, we are now in 2024 and Hasbro in my opinion is a pretty shit toy company and maybe that's one of the main reasons they are not doing so well.
