Gotta love those old Honda’s, great quality timeless classics that take a beating.
Try heating the front fender gently with a heat gun and keep the gun moving this will bring some of the colour back in coloured not painted plastics 👊
Literally just about to comment this as I’m catching up, I did the same on my ‘95 Volvo 850 T-5 wagon
This has worked great for me, just be careful not to put too much heat on it.
but it will draw last of oil remaining in plastic?
@@AK-Star007 not so sure ,I've used that method on really old plastic on cars in the past and once I'd done it ,I used a really good protection on the plastic ,it worked for me ,but I guess it depends how far gone the plastic is ,for example if it's fairly weak
I usually use a little blast of spray paint in my grips helps lube it to slide on then dries and glues it in place.
Had one of these in the eighties in UK. That had a polypropylene tank, no rust👍
Did the same thing with a gas tank with pea gravel and a pint of WD-40 and strapped to the back wheel of my 4 wheeler and jacked it up and ran it in gear for about a half hour , Clean as a whistle !
Great video as always! A good trick to get grips on, is to use compresed air to help them into place. It makes the job a piece of cake! Cheers!
CCCCCCrusty! That's me!!!!! Crusty Kustoms Garage!!!!!! Thanks for the shout out! LMAO
I see you too have one of them there super cute shop hands. Mine's barefoot most of the time too! LOL!. I'd be hunched over in pain from the littlest of rocks..
Haha! I know right, I never had shoes when I was little, nor do they. Now I can barely walk around on asphalt 😅
That is one weird looking front tire!! Great job on the refresh on the ole gal! Imagine the stories it could tell.
I love this bike. I got the same one when I was 12 years old. Mine is either an 81 or 82 though. So many memorys. I haven't ridden it in like 28 years or 140 lbs ago. I think it's time to get it going again.
So cool seeing people restoring old Honda motorcycles
I've got the same heat gun at work, and works fairly well for a harbor freights special
Love your videos you can fix anything and everything
The XR200 is one bike I would like to have in my collection, great little fun bike.
2:20 Shake it! lol Great video, Michael.
Great work, love these old Honda's😁👍
Bike looks great. Another fun vehicle saved from the scrap yard.
Left-handed drill bits are very useful For broken bolt extractions
Great content as usual and cute kid! Looking forward to seeing the Porsche
Nice work and thank you for wearing a helmet!
i have the XL 600R still back in Germany, cant wait to get it shipped to Australia....
Nice!! I had the 600 a long long time ago. Funest bike I ever had.
I like your little helper. She is a cutie pie.
Next time use white vinegar to clean the tank. Half full rotate every couple hours to half a day for two days. You dont have to do bb's or rocks. Much cheaper and leaves it like new. Some people waste money on apple cider vinegar and I dont know how that trend got started. They should drink it instead if use it to clean hahaha. The front fender looks to be off a different bike and or an after market fender and I dont think it will ever match though as just a rider doesnt matter at all. Good to see it saved and not all bikes need full restoration.
Honda Is the best ! From a lawn mower to a plane.
Looks great excellent work and thanks for the awesome content stay safe and take care
Edited instead of sharing it with your hands use a couple of zip ties and tie it to your wheel on the truck and just let the truck idle and let it spin it around for 20 mins it will save you back from shaking it
Good on ya mate good to see Mate
I have one of these I’ve been working on on the weekends.
For the naysayers saying the JB Weld won’t last, I’ve done this before to a gas tank and an oil pan on the same bike and 14 years later it was still in great shape. Lol
I’ve seen people use a heat gun to restore plastic, I’ve never tried it myself but in the videos it looks like it works for some people but it might be worth a try before you replace it
Great video. You can use your hot air gun to warm the mudguard surface up .not too hot and the best method to put grips on is use hairspray lol
I spied a beetle on the trailer ! Future project?
i have an xl 200 r too! and its still in good condition
I have built a bunch of XR200 & 200X Motors in the past from mild to wild, I would like to try a XL just cause the Trans has a wider ratio gearset, all the XR200's seemed to need a 6th gear bad. Biggest thing you need to do is keep the oil changed, 40wt is what I ran in all my 4stroke Hondas, keep the valves adjusted and keep a eye on the timing chain and they last forever
Watched Mustie1 attach an old tank to the back wheel of his truck with bungee cords, jack it up then put it in gear and let it spin for a half-hour. Turn it around and do it again to ensure every part got scrubbed.
Try Cerakote trim coat ceramic coating on that front fender it will darken it up..you should see what it does on faded black plastics
Love the Wolfsburg crest shirt. Is that a hint of things to come?
Try vinegar straight with nuts and bolts and shake. Let it sit couple hours. You will be amazed
Comes out looking brand new
Pink fender
Paint the exhaust with some black bar b que grill paint. Comes in a rattle can high heat. Small cost takes no time and looks great
Cant beat a Honda, I had a xr 80 when I was a kid and that thing took a beating and it just kept running and I could get through some of the mud holes that the 4 wheelers couldn't go through because they would bottom out in the ruts but it was really fun to ride. You got that thing in really good shape and looks good but you don't want to make it look new or u won't want to ride it and mess it up so then it would just sit and not get ridden so now that you just fixed it and made a good rider out of it you can have a blast with it now and its the perfect size
Hey - that's a nice job on that bike. Running & driving again on a budget - cool. Now, back on the....
VW pickup.
Thought I was gonna say "Porsche", didn't you? :D
You can scrape off the top layer of oxidation with a razor and then buff it with just the pad and no compound
I think your daughter likes the Barbie Pink front fender TBH.....Good job again.
It looks good 👍👍🇨🇱
Nothing more than getting kinky😂😂I gather Micheal those were your Saturday night moves got my Honda back a couple weeks and enjoy riding it happy days
"She's pretty darn crusty."
Good thing this is a car channel, otherwise that might have a completely different meaning.
Same with the kinky hose. :)
Also, old MX racer trick, use WD 40 on the motor and other metal parts and it will look great. This is really the only way to cover up mud film. Then, armor all on everything except the seat.
Great video, thanks for sharing! I don't suppose you would be able to share a link for the foot pegs you installed, would you?
Would that front mudguard respond to a heat gun as greying car bumpers do? Just wondering. You could always blow it over with a suitable rattle can, of course, to freshen it up. Looks and sounds great - a real credit to your application and effort.
well you gotta teach em young lol
Was hoping for a 911 video soon :D
There is absolutely one coming! I’ve been buried in bodywork on that thing trying to get it done! It’s coming and hopefully better than ever! 🙂
@@BudgetBuildz Awesome, can't wait! Sweet little bike, can you take us with you on the trails one day?!
Those are great bikes and nearly indestructible.
Would you please share the info on those foot pegs?
I need a pair and there are far too many variations...
Thanks!!!
It looks, based on the wear holes in the tank, like you're missing some rubber pieces that the tank sits on. Either that or the ones you have are worn out.
Use the heat gun on that front plastic but don't stay on one spot for to long , it will bring it back like new
I keep wondering about the nash you was talking about long time ago
Good mechanic great dad. Oh btw new bug?
Who made the tank sealer and where can I find it ? Love the old Hondas.
My man using a black and decker
Good job cleaning and recommissioning that bike. Instead of water and rocks, try nuts and bolts and vinegar. The nuts and bolts will be derusted along with the inside of the tank. How is it you didnt weld the tank instead of JBWeld?
The cheapest, nastiest hairspray you can find is good for handlebar grips. The cheaper and nastier the better.
Beautifull machine! But what about the porche and the others machines. Are all that with you, buddy?
jay smart sent me to this channel.
Next time use a heatgun to restore the plastic. It realy helped on my old f150
Where can you find a plastic set? I've looked everywhere for a right side panel, but I can't find any.
That fender would look even better if you used a hest gun on it and heat the plastic up it would like like new again
What footpegs did you use ?
I've seen a VW beetle on the background😍
Looks like i wasnt the only one that saw it lol
@@mister0ldschool 👍😂
Hi, did you paint the blue truck? 😍
I spy a Vdub Beetle in the background. Upcoming project?
Mike

Watch the second minute with Fats Domino "Do the twist" in playing in your head, its better that way.
Man I got one of these piston was in good shape but the top end wasn’t nor timing so I fixed it all now she won’t shift and I can’t seem to get it to run may need a new carb

where i can buy the plastic kit for this bike ?
do you still have the Porsche or what?! lol
What's it gonna take to own this bike Mike?
it looks pink
Why didn't you solder up the holes.
SUBRCRIBED JUST BECAUSE YOU HAVE THE CUTEST CHILD ON THE PLANET

Are "we" still gonna work on that VW truck?
What was the final breakdown of what the thing cost? Would like to know what a true “budget build” is.
The Stator was $158.95, Pegs $24.08, Cable Adjuster $6.99, petcock $12, brake cable $24.46, tank kit $45, fuel line and zipties $5, and grips were $15. That’s a total of $291.48, which I feel is a pretty decent bike for that kind of money. It could probably be set up as a street legal bike for another roughly $200 and less than $500 could have a decent street bike. If I had bought the bike in the condition it was, as far as the market goes in my area, it would costed roughly $150-$200. Just to give you an overall cost perspective. Hope this helps!
Hey......where is that porce?put video on work progress........
Porsche please!
had one 6 or 7 years ago I bought for $400 never got it running good enough, sold it for $400.. wish I didn't at this point. Can't find em anywhere near me anymore
Is the dirt bike for sale
Real funny watching you shake
13:22 Yes Daddy your bike us very nice and all, but can I have Marshall back please? 😊
She is obsessed with Marshall! Lol
Not a fan of tank-restorations with filler but If it’s just for getting it going again.. well ill live with it..
Oh man i thought it was a honda mt5 these are popular in Holland search em looks identical to this only a 50cc bcs of moped license
I spy a little beetle in the background
POR15 didnt work for my zx6 gas tank 15 years ago... After about 5 years it started to gum and flake off, its a nightmare and worthless tank now...
Fish tank rocks work better mixed with drain o and let set and shack
Jack up a car strap the tank to the back tire and kick it in gear I just let it sit there and spin
How much you gonna sell the bike for
Asking $850 for it 🙂
@@BudgetBuildz not a bad price at all
Please anybody that can even help alittle very much needed
Selling the bike?
to restore shine to plastic with heat gun. czcams.com/video/o7AbneccV6w/video.html
The handlebar grips come in with ethyl alcohol which then evaporates. It also serves to remove old ones.
How's the Targa going?
forget the porshe bikes are more rewarding
You do know that the POR-15 cleaner does absolutely nothing for rust , right? It is just a cleaner/degreaser. The Metal prep/Metal ready is the acid based metal etch/rust convertor. It's the product that deals with the rust. You skipped the most important part of the system.
And if you want the front fender red again for dirt cheap. Just pick up a can of red Krylon Fusion spray paint. It's designed to paint on plastic.
where that childs shoes ???
Paint the pipe
