Most pilots today grew up flying out of controlled airfields and had to get permission to do anything. Their heads stay inside the plane and use the GPS, not roads to get around. I was fortunate to grow up and fly in a age where you could get out into the countryside and do t&gs on dirt roads. We use to throw toilet tissue rolls, bags of flour over my friends house. 1/2 my early flying was off dirt/grass strips and yes I have had to shoo cows off. Good to see those days still exist as long as you can keep the FAA from sniffing around

This man one one of my flight instructors. I was a linemen bumming rides, washing planes back in the mid 80s for time. At the time he was either the or one of the oldest flight instructor who ignored ATC for the most part. When he PULLED the power, he PULLED the power. The owner of the FBO did not charge us for the planes but by the time we were done all 3 150s we had ripped off the wheel fairings from "unprepared strips".
Also 2 things he was known for as you NEVER poured out good gas when sumping. If it was clear and you tossed it all hell broke loose. Says that might be the difference betreen clearing a tree or not. Also pouring in oil. OMG hope its summer becuase he wanted every stinking drop. Don't care if it takes 20 minutes, he wants ALL of that brown stuff out of that bottle. I know TMI but coffee and a trip down mem lane when a fully fueled nice 172 ifr was $30. Inst was free if you fed him.

Thank you for the comment Rusty. The cost of the video experience is a click of a mouse or touch of a screen, the actual "in person" experience is Priceless!
