Thanks again Andrew. Good review and great video especially at the end when the big wheel in the far distance shows the spokes turning.
Great review Andrew! Thanks.
Rich.
I’ve got the mini Mobius & love it. Especially like the M set up for PC so simple to use instead of stuffing around with the text file. Very good review mate 👍🏻👍🏻
Thanks Mat. I like the Mobius C2 best of all flat form cameras.
Thanks for the review, Andrew. My "original" Mobius is still going strong and will stick with it for a while more.
Me too. Can't beat the Mobius C2 I reckon.
Excellent video and demo.
great vid...I still use the mobius 1 for years now....never knew this version was out..
I still prefer the image quality of the Mobius C2
Nice, thanks for the review :-) I'll probably get one. I have the mobius camera an I use it a lot on my RC FPV crawler. This camera would be a nice upgrade.
Seeing a Mobius camera brought back so much souvenirs
It is a hacker's camera, not quite there yet
Merci Andrew from France i love this tiny Caméra excellent vidéos quality thanks !
Good to hear merci
Decent image on 1080/60 and the image stabilization helped a little, audio was also pretty good. Maybe if they come up with an Apple app I’d upgrade? 👍🏻
Thanks Andrew, just bought one of these to replace my ageing hat-cam which has started creating files of zero bytes. The zero byte files still play as video, but something is clearly not right :)
Excellent vid. *Subs*
thanks.
best camera for ever.
Nice!
Since the new firmware was introduced the lock-ups have been fixed (for me at least). You can also change the sharpness etc, in the PC settings program.
Thanks for the update Andy
absoluteloy love Mobius camera`s, use mine on C1 chaser, Ranger and a couple of 680 batwings (eashine), a friend lost one in a field after plane crashed, and i found it 2 weeks later after a mowing tractor had run it over, it still worked and had crash video on it
Ha, incredible
@11:40, vlogging test mode, which lens are you using? Or more specifically, theres a 135 degree and 150 degree lens available at the link; which would you buy for hat cam, and for onboard video?
135 for hatcam and 150 for onboard. I think this is the 135º lens because it's narrower than my Mobius C2 lens. To be honest the Firefly 7S or 8S 90º versions are better hat cams..
Andrew do you know how to connect the mobius maxi to a TV? if so please instruct.
It's a nice camera and will be better if they get firmware/software changes. That's a good FPV option. I just hope someone is working on a waterproof case :)
Hi Andrew, Great job again mate! I have a question: Are there any settings with any of the Mobius cameras to avoid or reduce the lens distortion that causes the horizon to curve? I am sold on your reviews as to the Mobius image quality but I find it annoying to see the horizon (or anything horizontal) to bend up and down, or vertical objects (buildings, lamp poles, etc) to bend left and right. I know that these things can be corrected with proper video editing software but I'd prefer to do it in the camera, if possible. My GoPro 7 has this feature in the menu but they are so much more expensive than a Mobius camera. Any insight would be much appreciated. I'm looking to buy 2 or 3 of these ASAP. Cheers from los Angeles!
Thanks Dan. No you would need to go to a higher spec'ed action cam for distortion correction.
Thank you for showing us all of this about the Mobius Maxi, it's an interesting upgrade, I like the text document output settings idea for being software independent. I have an original Mobius Actioncam like the one you showed beside it at 3:50 in the video, but it doesn't have a protruding lens like yours does, it's internal and I have to open the case if I want to adjust the focus.
Did yours come with the protruding lens or did you have to add it? Can you adjust the focus on each of your Mobius cameras there just by turning the lens? Do you know if I can install a protruding lens on my classic Mobius Actioncam? This focus adjustment difficulty is why I'm considering buying the Mobius Maxi, but if I can upgrade my Actioncam for cheaper I'd be happy with that.
Mine is the C2 lens version. Focus is fixed. You can buy different lenses for the Mobius but need to find which one is compatible.
Really enjoyed your video thank you. I have a beginner question as I wanted to use the camera on a N gauge train layout. Can the camera take video and be flipped onto the 14 ml side, as the width of my trucks is very narrow? Can the video be played right way up on screen? Thank you again for the video
Oh that would be fun. You would need to rotate the final video using a video editing program.
Great review , all i wanted to know .Will add one to my Mobius collection ..where are you ?
Geelong, how about you?
I really appreciate your video and the explanations you give Andrew.
Banggood sells this camera with the choice of FOV lens 135 degrees angle or FOV 150 degrees.
What do you recommend? I find that the wide angle on a camera makes a distortion of the image, the straight lines become rounded. I did not notice that on your video. What is the angle of your camera?
Mine is the 150, I need as wide as possible for onboard plane videos. All of these action cams have that fisheye look but the 135 would be less distorted.
@@AndrewNewton Thanks a lot Andrew, I think I'll go for the 135 degrees
I bought such a camera on the aliexpress portal signed by boblov and does not work
Hi Andrew, thanks for the review. How do you think this camera compares to the Runcam 5? Thanks!
Runcam video quality is much better, and offers higher res
That's good to hear because I just ordered it. Thanks!
These reviews are most enjoyable, especially as they end with real testing.
How many cameras can you put on that plane at one and the same time?
Thanks Mort. Must have real testing otherwise it's all just talk.
@@AndrewNewton, so it is!
I am still curious about the number of Mobiuses that a plane like this can take simultaneously. Considering how every extra gram counts when it is about flying objects, I assume people only fit one camera to their plane at a time; nonetheless, how many can be added (for different views, such as of/from nose, tail, wings), with the plane still comfortable in the air?
Awesome video and channel. Planes in the back. How do you have them all hung?
Mostly just a loop around the prop for wings, and a wide hook on a line passing behind the tail, over the fuselage and behind the wing to the leading edge for the planes
@@AndrewNewton thank you for the reply. I am going to try that. I have just been using string around the elevator, but that way causes wear and tear.
what is the WIFI used for ?
Have you looked at the runcam 5 yet ? Do you think its worth the extra money ?
Potentially very good. IMX377 sensor is the same as SJ8 Pro. Likely to be way better than the Mobius Maxi but have to see the results for myself.
Can you get a narrow fov lens
for hat cams?
Possibly, the hex wrench is for loosening the lens, may need a lens with the IR filter fitted. Have a look on the RCGroups thread
I will look, thanks!
Hi Andrew hope you have a good Christmas.
I’ve been thinking of getting a cam for a hat cam and onboard a glider. I do need it to talk to an iPhone or iPad. I don’t have a computer and am a bit of a technophobe so this is all new to me. So what I’m asking is your recommendation for a first cam to get started with that I can view and record footage on my iPhone that doesn’t cost the earth. Thanks
Runcam 2 might be the best. Has a good wifi App to view, setup and transfer videos.
Thanks didn’t expect a reply so quickly this time of year. Much appreciated. Have seen your review and focus videos on this and also the F1. Like the bright orange of the runcam. Will do some pricing.
Thanks again.
Question: Does the maxi work ok as is (no capacitor install) with external power to drive video capture? I know the original Mobius needed the exchange out of the battery with the cap to keep from overheating.
Dont know Gary. I just use battery power
I have a Mobius Maxi 2.7K 135 for a week and I do several tests but I am not yet decided on the adjustment that I should adopt. What resolution do you recommend for filming my RC airplane with a hat cam. I am looking for a good acceptable resolution and a file not too large.
1080 60 is my preferred video resolution. Best quality and reasonable file size.
Thank you very much Andrew I would use this resolution 1080p. I tried before 4K and 2.7K. 4K for a small video of 1 minute gave a file of about 1 gigabit. Of course perfect resolution but too demanding. So I will go with 1080p. Thanks again.@@AndrewNewton
Did you upload in 2.7k? I only see 1080p, wondering if youtube is just slow.
Not yet, I'll put raw footage on Newton Airline Uncut soon.
Just uploaded 2 clips, give it time to process czcams.com/video/SgcDL475ebw/video.html czcams.com/video/JMmCCqkgy6Q/video.html
CZcams quality is always compressed! Even if it's uploaded with the same resolution. If you want to see the real quality then you need the original file.
I was hoping to see some live downlink from the new Moby Andrew....I used to fly my original Moby as an FPV Camera for ages and liked it on a Monitor...The only thing I found was the odd format, letterbox is the best way to describe it...Does this one suffer from the same odd format....?....Its fine, as long as you dont want to capture it on your full fat 16:9 DVR, which I now have and love (Eachine Pro) DVR....Some of the colours looked a bit weak to me and washed out..?
Did you miss that part of the video?
Is there a way to set the date stamp on a PC? The link for the software has multiple software on it, each at a different price and the store REFUSES to clarify which one I need.
I used Msetup - link in the description
@@AndrewNewton ..and the link for the external microphone at banngood says the mic has been discontinued.
I really liked the Mobius Line-up until last week when my Mobius1 died for no reason, the Live feed on the second Mobius1 is history and the charging behaviour is really weird(it's charging according to the LED but it's dead if I try to switch it on).
And the Mobius2 is no longer giving me a live output and the charging behaviour is also really weird.
Btw: Would love to see a direct comparison with the Mobius2 or 1.
Mobius Maxi has better specs but the image quality of the Mobius C2 has not been beaten yet.
can we use supercapacitor from old mobius into this maxi? i have few supercap and plan to buy maxi
I dont know about super caps sorry. I will have to do some research
Capacitor works but is different for the Maxi, four capacitor set instead of two. Bought the Maxi version from their eBay store.
If only they had an external microphone, and IES I would get One
is this much better quality and reliablilty than the old mobius? Using it as a dash cam
I still prefer the Mobius C2 image quality
Can that camera be used without the use of WIFi? My WiFi keeps getting hacked
Yes, WiFi is not required once you have it setup
How can you tell which lens you have on the maxi?
Good question. Haven't seen them side by side.
I have the original Mobius (1) bought 8 years ago and working just fine. I bought the newer Mobius Maxi because I thought it would be better, but it just fell apart and was unreliable with loose screws, a bad usb connector and then needing resetting quite often. Honestly the original is much more reliable. The newer Maxi has extra functions like WiFi and 2.7K resolutions but is worthless because it doesn't work.
Yes the old trusty Mobius original (or the C2 lens version) is the best
Good review. I was a fan of the original Mobius camera, as well. Unfortunately, it appears that the quality has gone downhill with the next (2) generations (Mobius 2 and Mobius Maxi). It's a wonder why they could not build on the success of the first generation.
Yes I agree, not an improvement of image quality.
is there an apple app yet or mac book?
Not that I am aware of.
👍
Whats the latency like please?
I never measure latency, only relevant for race quads I think
I need something to record my quadcopter with audio when it is on my hat what would be a good option. For when I am talking about what I am doing with my quadcopter
My hat cam setup is in the description
Aaaaah...cannot use it with the waterproof casing of the old movies😭😭
Can I be sure I am getting a genuine Mobius sorry to be a sceptic just that I noted Banggood are a chinese warehouse (I realise you got yours from there) perhaps you can put my mind at rest, many thanks
Stewart
Mine was genuine. Banggood is fine for these things.
@@AndrewNewton Many thanks
like a cheaper foxeer
To me the lack of Apple Support is a real turn off. At least they haven't jacked the price up, but all in all not impressed.
These are junk. Mine bricked when I did a firmware update. Have 3 of the original mobius cameras. Much better. Now battling to get my money back from this garbage.
Is the Maxi compatible with the same supercapacitor available for the M1?
Dont know of this supercap
