Sadly I am unable to show flying footage as mine failed to transition to forward flight during the maiden and smashed into the ground nose first.

Fantastic review, Lee! 😃
This model really looks amazing! Looking forward to the flight video!
Stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊
It's been a while since I've followed this hobby, it's good to see an old CZcams friend again! Keep it up bud.
Welcome back! I'm still here making RC content and helping others. Happy flying!
Fantastic! coming back to FPV after many years, so much has changed, yet so much has remained the same. :P looking forward to following this VTOL stuff. thumbs up xD
PS i recently bought the OMP bighorn balsa kit, and my pal has the Bushmaster. . OMP really are putting out some amazing kits
Awesome video! And an equally awesome aircraft! Might get me one of these
Hi Lee, Great video and review of the OMP SMO Pro, I wish I could get an OMP SMO VTOL. UNFORTUNATELY, I couldn't afford one. Thanks again for the video and information
That’s really a great VTOL. It is however a little big…maybe I get anyway one… I’m looking forward to your further videos 😊
interesting to see mapping components that can be adapted for use!!
Beautiful plane, I may end up with one yet.
Looking forward to your future videos on this! I just received mine last week!
You can check out the playlist for more content... best of luck
@@Painless360 ok great i see the other video! Thank you!!
Great news! And regarding info wishes, comments on the noise level would be useful, as much of the point of a VTOL is the ability to fly where other FWs can't. Plus the LiHV battery shape - will we be able to fit longer, more readily available ones? Thanks for the info, and happy transitions!
Very cool not bad for the price.
Bravo.thenks
too bad they didn t released a kit version
Hi, nice video!
I am now busy building my own fixed wing drone :)
However I was wondering if it is still necessary to program the ESC (brake, low voltage cutoff,…) if you use a flight controller with Inav.
Its my first time using a flightcontroller with Inav so I am not sure about all things :)
Check out my various INAV for beginners series. I don't normally change any ESC settings in my builds.. Happy flying
@@Painless360 And if you want set a brake for the propeller? Can this also be done via Inav?
No, via the ESC settings
.. Best of luck
@@Painless360 thank you very much, does the same thing apply to the low voltage cutoff value?
BTW your series about Inav are really interesting and are for sure gonna help me with my build 🙂
Yes
Thanks for the rundown old friend! Things sure have come a long way from our TBS Disco days.. Can't wait to get to get my hands on one of these ZMO VTOL Pro. What is the wind resistance or max wind handling capabilities? Looking forward to the future videos on this model!
I'm not planning on flying any of my VTOLs in anything but light wind. Unless they have a solid pitot and sorted tune things can get tricky really quickly... Happy flying
I got the version 1 or the none Pro version. I love to fly it and it's very stable VTOL. I added FPV DJI Air Unit and TBS Crossfire for the control link. One question, in the manual diagram it only shows DJI Air Unit. Doesn't it support the DJI O3 HD system with full OSD?
It does, in the same way as regular Ardupilot powered flight controllers
.. Happy flying
With vtol what kind of flight times are people tending to achieve, was thinking about it but always assumed flight time could be much lower more motors less time ect , but love the builds regardless nice job 👍
I'm guessing you are not a regular viewer. I've covered this in a few videos. See czcams.com/video/gN0HNcKCvQ0/video.html
@@Painless360 il be honest I tended to skip the vtol build videos but yes I’ll check them out as always I’m sure a wealth of information will be there , forever the skeptic me hehe thanks painless ✌️
Any plans for edgeTX “how to’s” in the future. Special functions, logic switches, etc.
A “how to fpv a fixed wing with no flight controller” video would be great as well.
Setup is exactly the same as Opentx... See videos like czcams.com/video/Vaq4Jt0XzOU/video.html&lc=Ugh4BhphaoDZDHgCoAEC
I may make a video using EdgeTX too.. Happy flying
Hi, thanks for the quick response. I need a copy of the settings from you, if possible, because the first time I had an appointment as a lock. Thank you. Peter.
Updated settings expected from ZMO in the next two weeks tp improve transitions so stay tuned!
Have you flown this yet? Forward flight transition fails 50% of the time, the aircraft tends to flip over when transitioning whenever there is more than a slight breeze. Also, the DJI O3 AU doesn't see the unlock signal and doesn't go into full power. OMP had told me they are currently testing new firmware and I would advise not to fly the Pro until they get it sorted out
I'm chasing OMPHobby about am update too. A few things needed tweaking in the setup. Updated setting file expected in the next 2 weeks.. Happy flying
Is there a provision on the FC for something like a telemetry radio?
Yes, via MAVLINK. Video in the playlist... Happy flying
Hope it's better than the first one! Before I buy another one..
Stay tuned, I'll be covering it in a few videos... Happy flying
Hello, I'm from Germany and I have a question, what does the ZMO have
such a firmwer.
I would appreciate your help. Greetings Peter
Looks like a custom version of Arduplane 4.3
Awesome little aircraft. It is great to see the appearance of more aircrafts capable of conducting missions, although I wonder about their real purpose, If the choice of payloads is very restricted due to weight and space constraints.
To me, hobby is definitely not 1000+ USD w/o transmitter.... Maybe they should start a new pro brand using a new name 😉
DJI PHANTOM 4 prices are way more than this... Happy flying!
@@Painless360 You are right, of course, and I would not dare to compare a DJI multicopter with a VTOL aircraft like this.
In the other side, does the ZMO Pro come with camera and video transmitter equipment as well?
You can get it with and without those pieces. This one is the cheapest version that came without radio receiver or FPV gear. I will have to add both into mine to fly it.. Stay tuned!
@@Painless360 I am closely following your progress with VTOLs, as I highly appreciate your work with UAVs, etc,. Beside a Xiake 800, I've got the VTBird from FinWing/Xuwing, a 1600mm span VTOL airframe that is (currently) sold at around 620USD including the servos, ESCs and motors. I've equipped it with a Orange Cube FC and a SIYI MK15, but I would believe that it could easily run with a Matek 405 VTOL as well, which would make probably a cheaper (and capable of carrying substantial batteries and payloads) alternative to the SMO. What's your impression?
Not seen my videos on the Xiake 800 and Ranger T1 VTOL conversions? A lot less than that.. happy flying
Where would you recommend installing and “badass gimble” with the DJI 03 unit on the ZMO Vtol pro?
The only place for something like that would be on the nose in front of the battery canopy..
@@Painless360 Ok, thank you. Where on the flight controller system would you connect the camera?
See my video on how to setup the FPV stuff on the flight controller... Best of luck
Can I use it to deliver items ~1kg within 30km ?
where are the other videos you were going to do on the ZMO Pro? you still planning on doing those?
See my video on VTOL models that came out after Xmas... Happy flying
Could you do a comparison against this, the heewing T1 and Fimi Manta VTOLs? Struggling to find anywhere I can buy the manta in the UK but would like the opinion of someone who knows more than I do about VTOLs
I can't get a Manta to try so that will be impossible at the moment. I'm only aware of HEEWING activity working with the Ardupilot development team to provide a better setup VTOL.... Happy flying
@@Painless360 it looks like banggood now ship the manta to the UK, but it's not the FC version. Do you imagine the programming of an f405 will be the same as the heewing?
Isn't placing the pitot probe above the fuse a rather dense choice?
Lol, made this comment just before your comment on it. I'd want it on the wing...
I ended up moving it on mine. Second video in the series covers how I tested it... Stay tuned
the only thing that has kept me from purchasing one of these is a two position throttle. being a long time fixed wing pilot, i just havent been able to get past that. it wasnt 100% clear in this video as to whether or not you can change the throttle to a regular proportional throttle
Yes you can. Happy flying
Ver 1 does have a full manual mode where you have full throttle and attitude control in FW mode. It's the only way I fly mine. I have an older DJI Controller so it's just switch B all the way down for full man but ZMO posted an addendum about using ch 5 to do it I believe.
Lee, How do you enter into the “debugging” mode in order to adjust the motors and flight control surfaces on the OMPHOBBY ZMO Pro VTOL?
I attempted to use the procedure used by the original ZMO VTOL by holding down the elevator control stick and cycling the SD switch to the down position (towards me) then centered position but this didn’t work. I’m not getting and response from the manufacturer so I’m hoping you can possibly shed some light on this.
By the way, I’m using the Radiomaster TX16S Radio Transmitter.
Unable to test at the moment. A few things don't appear to work as expected with the radio. I can't get the compass calibration to work from the radio here so it may be nothing you're doing wrong...
I’ve been having trouble with the compass calibration as well and keep getting Bad AHRS messages. I uploaded both config files (D8 & D8-1) so I hope they put out a D8-2 soon
Me too. There are a few things that don't seem perfect yet... Happy flying
Hi, I just purchase an OMP ZMO VTOL with MK15 setup. Do you have information regarding configuring QGroundControl and Mission Planner with it. I'm doing research before my ZMO arrives and so far nothing. I've used QGRoundControl with my old 3DR Solo so I am familiar with it. Just no idea how to set it up for a VTOL
I don't use QGC here. Be very careful with the ZMO PRO as mine crashed on it's maiden and destroyed a DJI Air unit and it never flew again...
hi
where can i get the user manual of the Vtol?
thanks
www.omphobby.com/OMPHOBBY-ZMO-PRO-VTOL-FPV-Aircraft-p3549170.html I'd contact the seller for the docs if you can't find them online.
Hi. What is the maximum allowable payload weight, excluding battery?
It isn't designed to have a payload. I'll cover take of weight when I make the flying video. It'll be very similar to the non PRO version as they use the same battery... Stay tuned
@@Painless360 I suspect the maximum payload weight might be in the range of up to 140g, based on suggested cameras. If possible I would like to know if by any chance that VTOL can be modified (ex.: mount camera in the nadir position) to be really affordable mapping platform. THX for your input.
@@bigpicturegeo3575 the max payload is 400g. 😀
Can you help me to install a RTL in case of loss the radio connection?
In Ardupilot?
Yes
Please see my Ardupilot series.. Best of luck
A tad beyond my budget, I wonder am I smart enough to design a cheaper version . Maybe for sure I can 3D print motor mount,
Check out the Jumper Xiake 800 videos on the channel. I also link to a 3D printed version... Happy flying
they woul sell ton of this if they would come up with a PNP(no fc, no gps)just motors, servos and escs.
Agreed. Give pilots a solid plane to build on... Happy flying
Impressive, but the Xiake 800 is increasingly looking like a bargain, even though it is a bit of a dog's breakfast.
Very different models aimed at very different pilots. Xiake 800 has a lot of issues... Happy flying
I agree regarding the price level, but flying a 1200mm or 800mm wingspan aircraft definitely makes a difference
I've not yet had a VTOL in here that was problem free that is aimed ta the hobby. The cheaper the model, the more potential issues.. Happy flying
first!
go metric! :)
Way too late for that 😁
