    It will be interesting to watch and experience (for those in the area). It would certainly give Brownsville a unique marketing edge. The city probably also already has harbor space to dock any mobile launch platforms.
    I don't think roads into and out of Starbase would go away entirely. Tunnels run the risk of flooding in bad weather or if the water table is too high. There are also all sorts of heavy and bulky loads to move and they probably won't fit through tunnels. Larger starship payloads come to mind.
    I do hope though that both the city of Brownsville and Musk are insightful enough to realise that car dependency is not a good thing. Build up road infrastructure by all means but design for habitability by implementing a good bicycle and foot infrastructure. Get away of having to use the car for everything with no other (safe) option.
    Rebuilding local building codes to allow for something other than detached single family houses as dwellings without requiring a variance is IMO an extremely good idea.
    Security will likely become an issue. Drug cartels or organised crime holding Starbase operations hostage with threats of crossborder mortar fire or illegal migrant invasion anyone?

    2 things to say: 1)If the hurricane happens again, it could destroy practically everything they have built, that scares me, I know they can rebuild it, but it would take TIME, and 2) That place where Starbase is right now, it has a lot of water and lagoons and very disconnected land, maybe Elon is going to fill it with earth so that there is more nearby area available to build? in Dubai they literally build cities on the sea from scratch, I don't see it as impossible, what do you think?

    • @TheTeslaSpace
      @TheTeslaSpace  Před 3 lety +2

      Great point, I was thinking about that too but I would imagine a lot can be done to mitigate these issues and as with most things it's easier to build them at the beginning than adapt existing infrastructure to try and accommodate for them down the road which is a luxury Elon and SpaceX will have.

      The Kennedy Space Center was built with the idea that Hurricanes can hit the area. It is also built on swamp land. The difference is, IMO, NASA did extensive studies on picking a site for the Space Center and prepared that site for such events like hurricanes. It appears to me that Starbase will just fix or rebuild anything if something should happen. If you look at the layout of the Space Center vs Starbase, it seems to me there was more thought put into the layout and protection of the KSC.

    • @deborahhebblethwaite1865
      @deborahhebblethwaite1865 Před 2 lety +1

      Not with the proper engineering for buildings, floods etc etc. I remember watching a video with Pablo somebody who works for Bill Gates. He was asked if Gates could figure out how to diminish hurricanes. Pablo said it was actually very low tech on how you could do this. Something with tires snd thermal breaks?? But to figure out how to satisfy all the jurisdictions that these breaks would impose was the tricky part. Hurricanes I believe are caused by water current temperatures and air temperatures. They form at a certain time of year. These thermal breaks would bring cooler water to the surface I believe. Sorry this is not my field of expertise. But like butterfly’s wings creating a storm elsewhere we are not sure what effect this might have on other areas of life, say in the sea etc etc. Anyway with the right way of buiding, and working with the water, say floating building areas where water from storms could raise and lower parts of the city, it is very doable. Watch Jaques Fresco cities of the future. He drew up a cool marine city….i am a futurist myself and design cities from scratch. If i won a lot of money i would take on a project like this minus the rockets leaving for space maybe….I would build inland much farther north with climate controlled areas and food production within these areas and oh I could go on……and on….🇨🇦

Or at the very least in short walking distance. So with Boring tunnels going all over under ground, and with the original streets still on top, that means traffic will become nearly non-existent. At least half the cars will be using the tunnels (which will be controlled by AI making the travel in them MUCH more efficient and safe) and the other cars will be driving traditionally on the streets. Traffic will become a thing of the past since there will be so much less cars driving.
