Anticipated that this would knock your socks off. That said, still give the studio a listen.
Toto was a band comprised of all top shelf studio musicians, and they brought it live!
Jeff Porcaro is sorely missed. Dude played on some historic songs. He was replaced by another one of the greatest players ever in Simon Phillips.
Totally concur, Simon is a monster. 🤘
Yea if there was a man that could fill Jeff Porcaro it was Simon Phillips
Guitar solo played by Steve Lukather, he played the main riff on Michael Jacksons Beat It and Eddie Van Halen played the guitar solo.
Lukather said he also played the bass in that. Steve Porcaro wrote and played synthesizer on "HUMAN NATURE". Quincy Jones wanted to hire them to tour with Michael on his solo tour. They declined.
Since you're a drummer, you still need to check out the real album version of this song. One of the most famous half-time shuffles ever played.
It's well known that most of the members of Toto have a master's degree in music, but I think this performance was pure talent. Also, now that you've heard the song, Don't forget to check out the original studio version that made the song famous(this version was not the original singer's). Great reaction, keep them coming. ☮Peace☮
"Supergroup" was the term we used to use. It wasn't handed out freely, but you knew one when you heard one.
They sound awesome!!! More than I expected too!!! Just missing the singer :(
PLEASE do "GEORGY PORGY" the official video. You've probably heard the cover by Eric Benet but you need to hear the original featuring Cheryl Lynn. CLASSIC GROOVE. These men could play ANYTHING.
It is a definite groove you won t forget
Make sure you do The Official vid..
@@1bigrowdy
Agreed! Please do the official video.
No live is best
Toto is an under appreciated group. They're all real musicians. Check out power ballads like,
"I'll be over you" and "I won't hold you back".
Led Zeppelin -Fool in the Rain Reaction This song proves that Zeppelin can play any musical genre.
Be sure to check out Toto's role on Michael Jackson's Thriller album. Toto IV the #1 album of 1982, Thriller the #1 album of 1983.
Jeff Pecaro....one of the best pockets ever according Lee Sklar, top-tier bassist, who loved playing with him. And Steve Lukather: among musicians considered top-tier, but among casual consumers of music his name is not as well known as the “guitar gods” we all know. But man he’s good!
Jeff Porcaro was one of the greats for sure! He adapted the Purdy Shuffle for this track. Toto is on par musically with Steely Dan IMO.
Good stuff though nowhere near the depth of variety of songs of what Steely Dan did.
As far as musicianship goes, yeah. But when it comes to the sheer volume of great musical composition, etc.... no.
@@vinniemoran7362I actually meant instrumental and vocal musicianship. Thanks for making that distinction.
This was what music was about, before the Simon Cowell's of the world made it about who could sing the loudest.
Simon Cowell - a blight on music, period.
The drum lineage of Toto - Jeff Porcaro, Simon Phillips, Keith Carlock, Shannon Forrest, Sput Searight. You don't occupy a seat in Toto without being a world-class player.
On June 4, 2013 Toto, was in Hamburg Open Air and I was there, as always at Stadtpark open air, directly at the stage .
Saw them twice in the last 5 years. I couldn't wipe the smile off my face. It's incredible that they sound so good live.
Toto is an AMAZING Band...I saw them in concert 2006 at Raley's Field Sacramento.....Wow!!! What a Great concert!!!!! If they come to LA go see them!!!
The drum intro to this is so classic it's referred to as the "Porcaro Shuffle". Alot of drummers find it difficult to do. Jeff was brilliant.
Thought Pocaro was doing the “Purdie Shuffle” there
@@helenespaulding7562
Yes, I put his name by mistake.
That shuffle was part Ourdy Shuffle, part Jon Bohnham with a dash of Bo Diddley, a unique blend called the Rosanna Shuffle.
I have to keep reminding myself that Toto is the band for Michael Jackson’s thriller album
They were a big presence on most of the songs for sure. Fun fact, MJ liked the MV for Rosanna so much he borrowed it for Beat It. LOL
That's blows my mind 🤯
I did not know that. 👍
Toto, the finest session players in the business. Played on other big artists albums. Decided to start their own band
That same show a track called “I won’t hold you back” is excellent
I read somewhere that between all the TOTO members they played on nearly 5,000 recordings! They were all FIRST CALL studio musicians. The Late Great Jeff Porcaro (drummer) played on nearly 1,000 alone. LEGENDS in the California Music scene!
The amazing Jeff Porcaro (drummer)...this is great, but not original singer. Listen to original.
Both Steve L and Bobby K did the original but they fired Bobby and forced Jean-Michel Byron on them. That was a sad state of affairs.
@@brewswillis9783 I knew Steve L was there. It was Kimball missing, he has an amazing voice!!!
A supergroup really.
All top sessionists before forming Toto, and credited on several Steely Dan albums,THATS how good they are.
True performances Live in Poland 35th anniversary tour is amazing!!
Jeff Porcaro using his take on the Purdie Shuffle ( a Motown drummer)..... Steve Lukather, killing it on guitar and co-lead vocals with Jean-Michel Bryon, Mike Porcaro playing Bass, Steven Porcaro on snynths, David Paich regular keys and keyboards you can't miss. Hard to believe they played on Boz Scaggs and Micheal Jackson's albums. They got so many hits of their own too. 99, Pamela, Georgie Porgie, I'll Be Over You, I Won't Hold You Back and Stop Loving You.... to name a few.... Love Peace and Happiness Y'all!!!
This song was written about Rosanna Arquette. She used to hang out with the band in the early days.
If you can learn that drum line you will be a master..one of the hardest out there. There are videos on youtube that show you how hard it is and the technique. Trust me it is FAR harder than you think Its called the Rosanna shuffle. There is a girl on youtune named Sina that plays it perfectly and has a turotial. Jeff Pocaro they guy who invented it also has a video on the technique. This is truly a master level drum line
After they fired singer Bobby Kimball, who was the heart of Toto.
Bobby is from my hometown in Louisiana and is a close family friend.
@@deniseriley6622 I heard he's not well these days. Please send my good wishes.
@@jons.105 will do.
@@deniseriley6622 Well....I hope he will recover? He was my favorite. Somethin' about him.... June
Of course, they're all excellent musicians. They established their chops when they were session musicians who decided that they could make their own music, of course. One of the greatest bands of the 80s. Many, many hits.
My 82 year old mum favourite song!
The singer with the high voice isn't the original you hear on Africa or Hold the line. I've got this DVD and CD set
Thank you for the great reaction, Chod! I knew you would enjoy the drums and keyboards in this great tune! For your next "specific" reaction you need to check out the song "Helpless" by Neil Young at Live Aid 1985. Even your Dad will love it!
Thank you..Thank you ..Thank you...!!!
Thank you for this TOTO reaction. Their so amazing. Listen to TOTO IV the whole album, you don't have to react to it live, just listen to it please. You'll be glad you did and you'll visit it a lot! Much love.
Remember the actress in PULP FICTION who played the heroin dealer's wife? The one John Travolta's character described as having "all that sh** in her face"? That's who this song was written for. (Rosanna Arquette)
I respect your opinion so much, because I never learned to play an instrument. And I love love love listening to you dissect songs, because I learn from you. Even though these songs have been in my life for many years. Thanks.
It looks like you really know what you're talking about, and that's quite refreshing coming from a fellow musician. great job, glad you're digging more into Toto, they've kept my musical life alive for over 50 years now!
Ha ha haaaaaaJeffPorcaro Choo... Pardon me, I sneezed 🤘
I like how you, and other reactors, are discovering music, while people like me are hearing stuff haven't heard in a long time. Or sometimes even being reminded of songs lost. This one is the former, not the latter. Oh, this is different now I'm at the solo. Never heard this version only studio
What a flawless performance! Excellent sound quality! 👏👏👏
Toto has always been one of my favourite bands. I'm glad I've been able to see them live twice. ❤️
9 times ❤
We were so spoiled back then . After the years still finding songs from back then that I missed and wondering why I hadn't heard certain songs . All the talent , different groups of the golden decades of rock and roll where we just got what was on the radio . At least you and all of us get it now.
Legendary shuffle beat on this !! It's famous all by itself! When I heard this live version, I immediately thought of Little Feat's Spanish Moon, live from the Waiting For Columbus album. That's a great groove, with help from Tower of Power horn section! You'll dig that one too. And almost no reaction channels have any Little Feat reactions!
This Song is written about the Actress Rosanna Arguette!
Begining drum are a blend of the purdy shuffle and fool in the rain (John Bonham) .. it's genius...
Song is about Rosanna Arquette ...you should try “ Georgie Porgy” official video.....
Oh didn't know that wow!
Who was Rosanna Arquette?
@@SuperPlacido1 She's an American actress
@Steve Gregg Ah ok!
Listen to the Purdie Shuffle -> Fool In The Rain -> Rosanna and you'll hear the evolution/mutation of one of drumming's sweetest grooves
Strangely enough, Toto have had tons of criticism over the years. People would say, yeah they're just this slicker than slick session band. As guitarist Steve Lukather would say: yeah maybe we were slick but we all played live in the studio together in a couple of takes so f***** you. Jeff Porcaro, the leader, on drum set the tone. He made sure they all brought their A game. There was no messing around.
Thank you that was absolutely fantastic
Have to listen to the original with Bobby Kimball.
Oh you did it! Thanks Chod!
These guys have played on so many hit songs it amazing
Never saw this live, long version - heavy ! great musicians all ! great reaction and description.

Georgy Porgy from this same concert is out of this world!
This song is a test that one must pass to graduate from many a drum school
No,no,no....you have to watch the original video of this song! The video is the best!
The early band members of Chicago were all virtuosos. I recommend you listen to their first album, Chicago Transit Authority, for a proper introduction to them.
I’d like to see your reaction to their live performance of “Introduction” in 1970.
Jimi Hendrix said of Chicago guitarist Terry Kath, “He’s better than me.”
Great version, but, you really should check out the official music video version, since you appreciate sounds so much you’ll notice the difference.
Listen to studio version to appreciate this live one
Would love to see you react to more Kenny Rogers, as you did like him in the two songs you've done so far. These are some good choices:
Daytime Friends
Lucille
Ruby, Don't Take Your Love to Town
She Believes in Me
Through the Years
We've Got Tonight
You Decorated My Life
I also see you haven't reacted to any Neil Diamond yet. That surprises me.
Here are a few good ones to start with:
Cracklin' Rosie
Heart-Light
Play Me
Shilo
Beautiful Noise
I Am, I Said
Sweet Caroline
Awesome!
Song "99" is an early cool tune too. Check it out!
Jeff Pocaro RIP
Steven lukather singing lead vocals here is also totos lead guitarist and he is most excellent !
Great reaction.
Rick Wakeman..Journey to the center of the Earth
The Purdie Shuffle
Rosanna , Africa and Hold The Line always get the most attention ( deservedly so ) but , hoping you"ll check out : Pamela , Gorgy Porgy and 99 as well - three tracks I prefer over the decades
you need to hear Joe Bonamassa with his band Black Country Communion Jason Bonham on drums
Hey Chod !
From 1977 AL Di Meola , Album Name Elegant Gypsy Suite. 1st song on album is Flight Over Rio.
At time you will wonder, is it guitar, or Organ. I believe they play synchronized at times. Do a studio version. I struggled which song to pick, so 1st on the Album. Its just a warm up. Whole Album is Great ⭐️ Great channel , great Personality ! 👍😎
You should check What Makes this song great ep.9 with Rick Beato
This ^^^^
Written for actress Rosanne Arquette
read the credits on that michael jackson thriller album on your wall.. you'll see toto all in thurrr
YOU HAVE TO DO GEORGY PORGY FROM THE SAME CONCERT, ABSOLUTE MASTERPIECE 🔥
IF YOU HAVEN’T ALREADY…..PINK FLOYD…PULSE CONCERT….COMFORTABLY NUMB….SHINE ON YOU CRAZY DIAMOND…..DIRE STRAITS….ALCHEMY……SULTANS OF SWING …..PHIL COLLINS…..PARIS LIVE CONCERT…..SOMETHING IN THE AIR TONIGHT…GODSPEED.
Can you react I Feel Fine by the Beatles official music video, thank you.
Journey’s La Raza Del Sol from their 2001 DVD is their version of this performance. The band rips.
Actually, Chod, I realized after this started that it wasn’t the video I had meant. It’s from Paris 1990. Outstanding. Jeff Pecaro on drums! For your own pleasure however (and anyone else interested) here is a link to the performance I referred to, with Simon Phillips on drums, Leland Sklar on bass, and Steve Lukather again on lead guitar....live in Paris in, I believe 2009. Even more jazz infused with a fabulous jam on Birdlland at the end...czcams.com/video/I6apwAZHzkw/video.html. You won’t believe the bass on this one.
Cuddy that’s you? Just came across this vid on CZcams remember seeing you in the vlogs years ago what up chod!
Yea its me! what's up fam!
Shame the stage had been so dark so you missed a lot of the performers at the back and their full enthusiasm that night. But it was still great.
Meanwhile I'm loving your new background with the records up, much better than what you had before
Try Kid Rock Cowboy for some variety. Great fun song.
I DARE you to check out Toto - "Jake to the Bone Live At Montreux 1991" which in my opinion ist the best instrumental performance of all time!
This is a cover band, you really need to hear the studio version of the real TOTO.Bobby Kimball was great!!
Toto songs You supply the night I'll supply the love and 99
BS, only half of the lead vocals were different. Bobby was great, but he wasn't Toto. Toto is about the music, not just the vocals.
TOTO is absolute FIRE!!! These guys always brought the HEAT with every performance!!! Please react to another song by them titled: "Georgie Porgy."
Love the raiders jacket bro
Yea, That’s Steve Lukether on Guitar--enough said.
Toto Trivia Heads --- help me out. Was this song really written for/about Rosanna Arquette?
You’re a musician. You really need to listen to the studio mix to hear exactly what’s happening. Jeff Porcaro is unbelievable so is every other musician. Try it out see if I’m right. 🤙🏻
Rosanna is a better Toto song than Africa, fite me!
Check out You supply the night I'll supply the love and 99 by Toto

Great reaction! Try Grand Funk Railroad’s “I’m Your Captain/Closer To Home” studio version. You’ll thank me for it!
Would still prefer the studio version. But it's also a perfect song. The ending is different, both endings are great i think. I dunno i think i like the vocals more on the studio version more.
I don't see or hear Bobby Kimball. Was he out of the group by 1990?
Please do a reaction to Georgie Porgie. It will BLOW you away
Original lead singer Bobby Kimball not there. Sound like a tribute band now.
BS, only half the lead vocals were different. Everyone else was the same. Bobby was great, but he wasn't Toto. Toto is about the music, not just the vocals.
