OH, one more thing. Don't get a Testarossa... Get a 308, or better yet a 512 Boxer. Testarossa's are post retirement Ferraris. 308 is just a better first Ferrari, getting a rough one "up to spec" would generate enough good content to fund actually owning the car in the first place. Or a boxer, boxers are a step up from 308's and the driving experience in a BB 512 is just waaay better than a Testarossa. At the end of the day, get the Ferrari that's "calling" you, I just wanted to give you some food for thought...

The Corporate Concepts Mera was the ultimate Feauxrarri rebody. You could buy a new Mera through your Pontiac dealer in 87 and 88 for about the price of a corvette and it was a darn good quality 308 look alike built on a Fiero chassis. You could not buy it as a kit. Only already installed on a new Fiero, as an “upgrade” through Pontiac.
I own the prototype that sat on the Detroit auto show floor in 87.

I really loved the comparison! The trans am Ferrari looks way better now, than a regular trans am, in my opinion. Also, I’ve owned 2 Fiero’s back in the 90’s and they were my entry level cars to loving rear or mid engine cars (I owned some VW Bugs too so had rear engine cars too). I had a SE V6 auto and then a base 4 cylinder manual. Anyway, I think the Ferrari with an LS engine is a great idea. American reliability and Italian design. Shelby Cobra ideas right there. Also, I’m a proud owner of a 2002 Boxster S which I call my baby supercar. Was inexpensive, yet 260hp, 2800lbs, 6 speed transmission and very reliable. The mid engine car stuff, for me has been realized in this really cool Boxster. Really like the channel. Thanks!

The front end is pretty close. If you painted the lower part of the front fascia white like your friend's car is by giving your car more visual height up front it would help hide the TransAm profile. The side marker replacement is a pretty easy fix also if you don't mind doing fiberglass work and repainting your front fenders. Replacing the rubber door trim thing on the rear hatch with the proper wire mesh is also an easy fix that would upgrade the quality of the replica. Even the interior -- if you like working on cars and have the money why not? If you consider the car a work of art rather than just an investment the resale value of the car shouldn't be the main consideration. The length front to rear of the vertical side of the rear hatch panel immediately behind the quarter window you want to replace also is an area that attracts attention, but may be hard to change due to the placement of the chassis and rear glass at the back of the cabin. If you could push the seam back and extend the quarter panel back a few inches it would give you more room to install the new authentic quarter panel window. Although I would probably fabricate the quarter panel windows out of lexan and aluminum frame rather than pay the ridiculous price for authentic Ferrari windows. You've got the dimensions from your friend's car. That also gives you the option to shorten the window a bit if you have to in order to make it fit. No-one will see an inch or so without a tape measure.

Theres a visible line running from the bottom of the windows all the way to the back of the car, this could be pulled off with a black pinstripe. Edit- also (I know from later videos you put in the rear glass look) from this over the roof to replicate the engine cover lines. Loving this by the way, you have a mission and its telly for us all. Not sure if it's possible to lower it a bit more? And obviously the wheels which is no doubt on the list.
Paint behind the louvers on the side vents black, look at the original. Its a cheap fix up, I don't know how far you need the paint, maybe 20 inches from the rear? Alternatively you could go blls deep and partially fill in the louvers and reshape further down the doors. Its not that difficult I've been restoring fibreglass race bikes and own a plastic Lotus. for years, the biggest challenge is blending the paint after.
If you add a rear facing vent between the rear wheels and back end of the body this will break up the long rear overhang. similar to an F40 but try keep the Testarossa look.
I'm not stopping now, also move the Ferrari badge on the front wings further forward to take the eye from the long distance between the front wheels and the door.
Paint is an amazing thing, I would also use black paint to create the lower side window shape more in-keeping with the original, you wouldn't need a lot, get some painters tape to create the line on of the TR.

I agree he could paint that part black to look like the window. That, plus some tint would really get the look going, especially with a little black paint on the back part of the door fins would really help it too.

9:28 Don't think of it as throwing away money on a kit car, think of it as a rolling storage for authentic Ferrari parts!

The red car next to the Testarossa is a Qvale Mangusta right? Such a rare car, didn't expect to see it in this video.

@@kelvjr8588 Never saw one in real. Know about it thx to internet and because for some reason I love weird sports/supercars. And the Mangusta is exatly that, weird but also beautiful somehow. Difficult to explain.

The only way to make your car sound exotic, is 180° headers. It would be tight in a fbody, but it has been done.

I’ve only driven 2 Ferrari’s in my life when my brother was a car dealer and both were the most uncomfortable and harsh riding cars I’ve ever driven - I guess they are really made for the track, but both were not what I expected at all - I suppose they are just race cars and not supposed to be luxurious or comfortable.

    • @orangecayman520
      @orangecayman520 Před 2 lety

It depends on the car. The FF or F12 or 599 are all very comfortable cars for long distance driving

Trans am is way bigger... But still looks good specially 30 years old.... The testarossa is a heel toe car so that's why the pedals are designed the way it is...

nice... the real one; I know why you have the replica but how is it possible to built such a replica standing so far from the original??
