      Why is the sensor not like the older ones that could be removed.
      The throw away of a bottle only adds to the pollution..
      Old school is by far still much better

    My 2007 Golf V GTI had the same symptom, and after I drive it and shut the key off and turn it back to on position while driving the light went away. The possible explanation was when I first started the car was cold, and coolant level was low, and most importantly, the street where I parked was had a valley on the ride side of the road and my right side tires were in the valley, so the car is tilted towards the right.

  • @Trypta
    @Trypta Před 4 lety +3

    My car is also hard to start at cold start. Thanks for the video you helped pinpoint it. It's definitely the coolant temp sensor.

    Of course, the idea of having a numbered sensor light coming on that tells you the EXACT nature of the problem(s) never occurs to the automobile manufacturers. These turkeys might as well install a sensor that does nothing and then install a second sensor that comes on when the sensor that does nothing malfunctions.

    Due to my experience in the VW beetle, it could be bad sensor on the cooling reservoir itself. It must be replaced with original VW part, aftermarket part will not work.

Because when I check the harness going to sensor I can't find a good power wire. Btw nothing's wrong with the car just doing this to learn thanks in advance.

    @shanequacollins9096 Před 3 lety +5

    My vw has had this issue for many months, but my car was never actually over heating, so I figured it was just a weird sensor thing so I stopped paying attention to it. Last week I was driving around and pulled up to a friends house after the light has been on the entire time (about an hour) without turning off which never happened before. Pull up to the house and my car is smoking tons of black smoke from everywhere. Got it towed to a shop, they did an oil change and fixed the broken pipe that was leaking all of my coolant then filled up my coolant. Got it back, was in my car for maybe 10 min and the light came on again. Let it sit for a couple hours, got back in and drove for another 45 min and light never turned off. Hopefully it’s a bad sensor and not something I should be worried about this time:/

    From the comments showing the amount of VW vehicles and range of years this is common and VW doesn’t care. The same thing happens in my 2019 Atlas the first cold day it saw and has never stopped. VW Technician said it’s a touchy sensor, problem is when you go to resale your car no one wants a car with a trouble light, whether it’s correct or not.

    I've seen this a few times.
    Wrap a wooden dowel with fine sandpaper and rub the facing surfaces of the two wires. A deposit builds up over time and disrupts current through the liquid.

      It is just happening to me on passat b6. But when i check the coolant level at first it is almost at the bottom of the bottle but when i open the cap to pour some in the coolant start rising and it comes back at the normal level, and then dash light goes off and everything is ok for days or weeks sometimes. Does that coolant bottle has some vent for releasing the pressure and it get stuck or it is something else that should send coolant back in the bottle. My mechanic checked and everything was ok at that moment so he just proposed that i change coolant bottle. Do you have any idea is that bottle problem or it could be water pump or something more sinister. Any advice would be appreciated.

    Our 2006 dodge caravan was leaking coolant all over, we took it in a shop they put a new water pump in and a new radiator then a few months later the tempture gage said it was over heating but did’nt stay lit up on the temp gage it went down after a few seconds so we took it in again to same place and they said it was the thermostat so they put a new one in and after about a few days of getting it back it started doing it again …it would only show over heating and as soon as we pulled to the side we would either shut it down for a few seconds or even let it still run in park and it would go down and drive it through out the day off and on and it would’nt do it anymore just one time a day and it would only do it after driving it about 3 miles or less and then it would’nt do it anymore even if we drove it off and on during the day >>> what could that be please help could it be a blown head or a blown head gasket? ty

    I’m having a coolant problem with 2017 Golf Alltrack. No coolant light coming on. Temperature gauge appears to work normally then rises rapidly to 260F. Let the car idle and the temp slowly goes back down. Coolant level is normal. Two codes are present after replacing heater control solenoid valve. P2556 engine coolant level sensor and POOAF Turbocharger boost control A module. Radiator fan runs normally.

    My golf MK4 also had this issue. started the coolant STOP sign on the highway. Pulled over and checked if there was coolant. there was and indeed it was circulating. Today the problem became even worse. The coolant gauge at the dash showed below 50C when the engine was hot. and it suddenly get up to 90 and then 130 till the moment it wasnt working at all. also the STOP coolant sign kept going on. With me it was the coolant sensor itself. Replaced the sensor all is fine now. drove 50 km without any issue now.
    So yes it can sometimes be the coolant sensor. Important to others... In this event no ECU codes were logged !

    Could a bad ECT, either the G62 or G83, make the radiator fans runs at full speed after the car as been turned off? Sometimes for 2, 5 ou even 10 min? Or even the overflow bottle sensor? This seems to be an intermitent thing, all temps seem to be normal, and this happens with cold and hot weather, hot and cold car, doesn't seems to be a specific time or temp of the day.

    I've had the 'STOP: Check Coolant' light come on for the past 2 years, but only when it's cool outside. When the weather is warmer, from about May through September, the light never comes on. The car runs in the normal temp range, with no overheating. When I start the car, and the light comes on, I drive it for about 2 or 3 blocks, then shut the engine and restart, and the light goes away! The car is a 2003 GTI VR6.

      Can anyone respond to this? The 'check coolant' light still comes on, but only during the Fall through Winter months, when the temperature outside is lower! It never comes on during the warmer Spring or Summer months. I've been driving the car for years like this, with no problems. The engine temperature range is always normal. Could this just be a bum sensor?

    Mylight came on as soon as i turned it on but lately when i shut my car off it makes light a boiling sound behind my dash on the right side where the coolant area is but my car is not over heating.. i think i need to put more coolant and there is more water in there which boils faster right

    Why all these stupid sensors! I love tech, but it seems so pointless when one could just check the coolant for any issues and if there is already a gauge showing whether or not it is overheating.... they always seem finicky and just add headache. Perfect it or just throw it out..

    I'm having a like problem in my 2012 Passat TDI 2.0. The light comes on steady but the car heats up to 190 and stays consistent. The thermostat and water pump are fine. If I pull over and stop and restart the car, things are ok. I've got a code checker and no codes show. Could this be the coolant bottle? Is the sensor located in the coolant bottle? Thanks

    MY VW Amarok has had a cooling system issue recently where it seemed the water temp was colder than it should be. While driving the car, the temp would be around 84 deg, but drop down to 50deg C. Then sometimes go up to 93-96, but quickly back down. I have had the thermostat changed, and while running the first time, the temp steadily went up to 94deg C and was up and down around that temp, but when idling my car for a while, the temp gauge drops down to 45deg C, and while idling, it stays around this low temp. Is that normal for the temp to be that low at idle?

Then I replaced the coolant reservoir (i.e. the level sensor which is integrated into the bottle). And the flashing coolant light still persists. Any ideas what could be the problem?

    ATG suggestions:
    Check the actual temperature of the coolant from the Coolant Reservoir (melon size).
    With a Thermometer respect to the Thermometer Car's Gauge (dashboard).
    If both reading are about the same...
    Change the Temperature Sensor Unit (right side top of engine) /or Thermostat.
    Do the Temperature Sensor replacement first.
    Thermostat & Water Pump replacement are no fun.
    FYI: ATG suggests & stated if car over 8 years old or 94K+,
    Replace the following PM's to prevent overheating, blown head & missed fire & poor milages:
    * Complete Timing Belt Kit
    (water pump, belt, tensioner, gaskets & so on)
    * Change all belts
    * Temperature Sensor
    * Thermostat
    * All Coolant Hoses
    * Spark Plugs
    * Oil & Filter?
    * Clean the Coolant Reservoir's Sensor (looks like to metal rods)

      "Complete Timing Belt Kit" for a coolant sensor problem...that's a dealer's solution if I've ever seen one.
      Maybe start with cleaning the coolant reservoir sensor, then do the timing belt second.

It says in the manual that this means "fault in the coolant system" "use expert advice" the temperature is 90 which is normal. yet the light flashes within one minute of the car being turned on and it "flashes constant" any advice, should I still drive it if the temperature is normal even tho the light is flashing?????
