What drives your training? What fuels your motivation? What are your long-term aspirations? Many of us initially embark on strength training or exercise for surface-level reasons, and while there's nothing inherently wrong with that, will it be sufficient to sustain your commitment over time? As long as we consistently dedicate ourselves to daily workouts and put in the effort, pursuing a pleasing physique is not detrimental-it's quite the contrary, in fact. However, the real challenge arises when motivation wanes because superficial objectives may not be compelling enough to keep us consistently engaged. Our aim is to remain active, in motion, and unwaveringly dedicated. What is your underlying motivation?

Great video! I'm 70. Just lost over 200 pounds. Want to keep it off. Found out that I'm happier, more emotionally stable, and healthier when I work out. For me, that's your basic crawling patterns, some stretching movements, water-walking, and just plain old walking. No need to go bananas or anything.

I’ve been training for 10 years plus I’m 52, in the 2 years animal movements, and more stretching my body, warming up and down, just because I watch your channel Josh, you are an inspiration, and I’m more flexible now than I ever was, I can walk on my hands, do handstands cartwheels and people younger than me can’t believe it. I love your channel so much.👍🏻🤜🏻

I totally agree! The reasons i go to the gym these days:
    - To improve my flexibility
    - Strengthen and bulletproofing my joints, so I can do what I love forever (climbing, football, jiu-jitsu, bicycling, boxing)
    - 15% To look sexy naked (this used to be 100% the reason)
    - Keeping my mental state positive
This effort in the gym, in turn makes me eat healthy. If i don't, I wasted that gym sesh.
I have never looked better, been more motivated to continue training, felt better, been more athletic, than I am now at 27. And I truly believe I'll have levelled up on all those points by 35 with continued effort!

Man I am just like you. I am 16 years old and ever since I can remember have been playing sports and spending time outside, hiking, trekking, climbing. Last year we won the rock climbing state championship, I broke the javelin school record, and one the track and field state championship in vermont. My fitness journey has been the largest part of my life, expanding my body and mind in the healthiest and most efficient way possible. Naturally at this day and age, I have spent much time on the internet looking for answers, mostly questioning is it possible to have a good physique as well as strong performance. Its taken about 5 years now for me to transform from, home workouts, to gym workouts, to calistetics, to plyometrics, and so on. Now I have just recently become confident in a training program that I have designed for myself over the last 3 or so years involving all types of workouts. A lot of what I'm feeling now and what I wish I could tell others, is expressed in this video, thanks for the good work and the speaking of truth. A healthy combination for any young man or woman looking for answers.

I joined the strength side fam a little over a year ago and since then my mindset has shifted from the appearance to performance. Through a year of mindful movement and traveling and doing the work outs they provided I found myself in love with capoeira and how the body moves. This was about 6 months ago and I’m 24 now. So for a little over a decade I was forcing myself to go lift weights and go to a gym and do things I never truly enjoyed and just like Josh said, I eventually would be on and off. Once I found capoeira I immediately dove head first and even after 6 months I’m still in love, my problem now is that I need to be ok with rest days when I’m sore and not do anything other than stretch. It took my along time and A LOT of different practices till I found the one that gels with me. It’s been 6 months and now I’m almost to an “aesthetic” body whatever that means but at the same time I enjoy what I do and that’s most important to me now. So don’t give up! Try anything and everything who knows what kind of discipline will catch your attention. Stay strong, stay different family.

I started training for physical freedom. I was a city bus driver, and it stiffened my body and caused some structural problems. Most importantly, I developed scaitica on both sides, it was terrible. I changed to a more active position at the same company and noticed my pain decreased. Now, I'm focused on building and flexibility and healing old work wounds as well as eating better.

Loved the video. Right where I’m at. At 65 years old I’ve spent 45 years doing the bodybuilding thing. Lifting, counting sets and reps even as much as I enjoyed it my body no longer appreciates the stress. Plus it was really getting a bit boring. So I’ve been experimenting with yoga, animal flow and a whole lot of the stuff you promote. It’s doing wonders for my enthusiasm and fitness. Keep it coming my brother

This channel has been super inspirational and helpful for me. I am 23 and I'm starting to have a really healthy relationship with my body and the reasons why I work out, wich are basicaly feeling healthy, pain free and building a base for years to come. Even then, here I get reminders to let go of certain patterns that we are so used to having, like worrying more about progress by looking in the mirror than actually being concious about technique progress. Thank you so much for everything ❤

I resonate so strongly with this video and feel like I’m going on a similar journey. I first started working out to lose weight, then got caught up chasing aesthetics. Following that I discovered my love for lifting, but also got caught up chasing numbers. This year I moved to CrossFit and exposed my weaknesses (mobility, conditioning) and focussed more on performance and started to create a body I was happy with. I then recently tore my pec which has set me back, but it’s allowed me to plan what I want to do on the other side and I intend to get into kettlebell flow and really focus on moving well whilst getting stronger. Despite having a long rehab road ahead, I feel more excited than ever. Keep up the amazing work man! 🙏🏻

Doing strength exercises with a flexibility component can result in more usable strength through your range of motion, which reduces the likelihood of injury. I've found it also leads to much faster flexibility gains. Reverse planks are a good example of this for the shoulders and can be progressed to crab pose.

Personally I'm trying to get a hold of the mental side of it all. Mind/muscle connections, motivations, willpower, breaking junk food habits, mindfulness, you name it. I've done the back and forth of fit/unfit so many times in my 20s and now mid 30s. I just want to slow down, consider why and how I'm doing things, and form a fit lifestyle I can actually enjoy and stick to.

Then I found jiu jitsu 2 years ago and I started wanting to better my performance in the gym. Started eating right, doing strength and conditioning, stretching more. Not chasing a physique but better overall health and performance. Now I’m constantly wanting to ‘play’ and be more active. I haven’t quite reached original physique goals but definitely on my way and just enjoying learning new skills and having fun. Cheers to anyone out there on their own journey

After 3 years of quite extreme unactiveness, I started slowly with animal flow, because I love the aesthetic beautiful flow movements and I also think they are very healthy. I also cure my health anxiety by causing some pain and increase my heart rate on purpose. 😅 Later on I want to do parcour, Inline skating (in an iceskating way) and I want to be able to climb on trees. All for the fun, of course. 😊

    Love this.
    You actually are human!
100% relatable except that I still haven't got the physique that I want partly because of the terribly sedentary nature of my work and work routine even though I try to stay active 5 out of 7 days in a week.
Hurts (mentally) that I hurt my back yesterday and have to take today off but YES - find something you enjoy and be in flow state.
The whole aesthetics angle is very complicated (in an age of social media) and I'm 100% convinced that simple stress negates a lot of the gains and ability to get and maintain physiques.
Hoping for that perpetual intrinsic motivation.

Yes, as everyone else who works out, I’ve always been looking for results to come sooner but instead I was often disappointed with the lack of results “why am I not getting leaner or why my physique isn’t improving as fast as it should?!” But I still keep going to the gym 3 times a week (I just turned 61) still going at it and lately I added calisthenics at home to my other 3 days ...why? Cuz (you nailed it) I just enjoy the process of it all and yeah, over time, I have definitely improved my physique over the years and became leaner and still pursuing perfection in my routines. So keep up the good work on delivering your messages to the masses. I truly enjoy them Cheers!

Also don’t get sucked in to lifting heavier weights than you can; form and slowly advancing is key

    Quisiera llegar a 90kg.
    Saludos!

Training is discipline, dedication and meditation for me. My friends complain about their poor health and the 150 medications and tests they have. Training is a lifelong pursuit to inner balance and happiness and also to remain strong and out of nursing homes.

I am really liking training animal flows, stretching. But when I am watching video's about how to get to a certain goal/strength for a certain movement I feel I don't want that. I don't want to set goals, train specific for it for weeks and months. I just want to move and feel good. This means I can't do certain parts of the sessions I pick from YT, but that doesn't matter. The hours before a workout I start thinking about what I would like to do, what will give me a good vibe. Then I search a training which will do that. One day this is a long stretching routine, the other day it's a dryland skate training, then it's the gym or some crawling movements. I feel I am getting stronger, more flexible and so on. But the most important thing is that I feel good during and after my workout because I did what my gut feeling wanted me to do.

I just turned 45 myself. I’m 6’2” tall & (was 300lbs.) have struggled with being overweight or even obese my whole life. I started my journey just over a year and a half ago & I now weighed this morning at 169.3lbs. & for the first time in my life actually have muscle definition (& a 28 year old girlfriend 😉). You can do it, don’t give up. Tip: I bought a mountain bike to get started & still use mostly only body weight exercises.

We really need more push for movement, mobility and skill work, fitness industry took over world in a way where basically bodybuilding is only aspect of fitness & health, leaving others in a complete darkness. @@Strengthside

You asked where I'm at in my training journey? I'm trying to be cross-discipline with my body and cross-flow. By that I mean I'll do a bit of Capoeira, a bit if weight lifting, a bit of yoga and a bit of animal flows depending on the discipline I'm more into at any one time, the feeling in the body, as well as working on specific skills within being a massage therapist.

At 67 years old, I enjoy the gym, I go, I mostly lift weight, mostly functional exercises. And I do enjoy it and I feel I’m strong for my age and weight. I’ve recently started to take an interest in mobility and movement, I want to learn new skills. But, I’m blocked by fear. Fear of failure, fear of falling, fear of injury. Can you help please?
