  • The center shower knob, the diverter, switches your water between the tub and the shower. This video deals with the Delta diverter shower knob repair.
I am working on reaching 1K subs on CZcams, so Sub, Like and comment if this helped you in any way.
More notes: The diverter is from Danco bought at Lowes for about $14. There is a shim that gives resistance while the knob turns, it VERY tight and the knob won't move, use the old "pad" from the worn broken part, to make the knob turn. I fixed this and then went back and decided to make a video, showing the problem with the sticking replacement knob. I hope this helped you out.
A small amount of water still comes through the tub spout but I can live with that. More info can be found by looking up reviews of the part number online.

Whew! I went to the hardware store and got a new one...I had the old one to match it up,since they had that Danco, I told the cashier to throw the old one away!! Boy did I screw up!! After putting the new one in(it was too thick). I watched this video and immediately drove back up and dug through her garbage can til I found my old one. Came back home and swapped that C shaped piece and reinstalled it...walla! Thanks so much for this help. Most guys were saying to sand it down a bit...

New top pad need to face bottom and holes face up when installing I had same problem and I sanded new pad and put some vaseline so it works but I needed to play with it for some time. Slots on “medium” part(part with rubber o ring) need to be aligned in small pipe slots so diverter can turn in pipe itself in order to split water between faucet and shower head. This might be of some help. Good luck.

Wow.. thanks for this post! I have a roman tub.. was able to replace the extender.. but could not pull the valve out.. tried with needle nose pliers.. did not work.. I didn't want to break the small stem on the valve, as it is burried pretty deep in the assembly.. so I screwed in the long screw from the extender.. then pulled up on the screw with a good yank and it came out.. I'm hoping once i put in the new valve inners (delta original valve and extender), that it's gonna work like a charm!!

Last time I did it many years ago I didn't have any problems like I am now. First time I put the new on in it wasn't all the way back. I thought it was bc it was tight. My diverter stopped working, went to Home Depot ( yes it’s a delta 3 ) then I replaced it, went in to easily and shower wasn’t working… didn’t work!!
I realized that I didn’t change that little piece from the old one to the new one like you showed in the video.
Did that.. after that I put it back but it eas really tight to push in… after it went in
I tried to see if it was working.. nothing !
Knob turned really hard and only tub faucet is working, no shower.
I took it out and tried many times in different positions based on the holes in the piping .. nothing!
I guess I damaged the stem? Who knows
I ordered a new one complete from Amazon for $ 12 bucks.
    Will give it another try!!

Plus I have a pretty decent stereo system that I listen to while I glue all my parts together with a tiny little blue guy on a boat, the size of a Chinese guy's penis, I'm the next Barry girls, and I am kind of a self proclaimed God.not all self proclaimed, I got called to God last night while I was nailing her
