Gerrard was the only reason that Liverpool didn't end up in mid table obscurity some seasons. I remember feeling pity for the terrible load that was placed on his shoulders and at a relatively young age also.
He was a real Roy of Rovers type player and man. He deserved better and it's a shame that he didn't play with a proper squad at Liverpool but he will always be the Legendary one man that dragged us to the Glory of Istanbul and the F.A cup against West Ham and the footballing gods because luck deserted us that day. Only the pure brutal brilliance of Gerrard saved us that day again.
    YNWA.

Imagine him today. Gerrard was the king of the high press before that was even a thing. I always say the best way to describe Gerrard was he was Kante without the ball. Never stopped running and closing players down trying to get the ball back whether they were in his own half or the opponents half, wherever the ball was Gerrard wasn't far away. But with the ball he was Kevin de Bruyne. Could carry the ball up the field, score goals, create goals, pass, cross you name it. He could also head the ball as good as anyone. He's by far the most complete player I've ever seen.

The most complete player I’ve ever seen! And one of the greatest players of all time. I get he didn’t win the league but he drove an average Liverpool team to achieve trophies that were beyond their reach and was up against a Man United team a Chelsea team and an Arsenal team that were full of world-class players and managers and probably the best teams of their respective clubs eras. If he played in one of those teams or one of the best Liverpool teams, he would have won league titles for fun. One of the best keepers and the forwards of all time in Buffon and Ibrahimović haven’t won the champions league but that doesn’t take anything away from them being one of the greatest legends!

I think even with this amazing Klopp team, Steven Gerrard is still probably the best Liverpool player I've ever seen. He's definitely the best midfielder I've seen play for Liverpool.
What made him so exceptional is that he could do everything well. We was fast, his work rate was incredible, he could tackle, he could score a goal from any position amd from long range and he could head the ball. On top of that he took all set pieces and assisted lots of goals. He was even a good crosser.
I think any manager, back then or now, would want him in his team. Legend.

he was a sumptuous player but i have to concentrate on his desire more than anything else when i look at stevie, like lennon says here even in training it was calm if u were on stevie's side, we've all tried to be that or played with people like that and it is the number one attribute in football...yes skills are important but it comes down to 11v11 men on a pitch and if u haven't got that desire to work harder and the belief that you can smash ur opponents all the skills in the world cant help u...it's the same with klopp imo, all his teams share an out and out desire to outwork and out muscle opponents, there's never an inferiority complex with him, he believes in what he does and thats why he can rebuild his teams without losing performance, his players fully believe in him, he instills his confidence in them, same as stevie did whilst playing...the psychology of football is massively under appreciated, who didnt have that sinking feeling at the start of a junior match when the other team looked twice the size of urs? it's human nature and its the same for adults, its easy to get intimidated, stevie never did and he demanded, and got, the same from his teammates

Scholes is a better #10 than Gerard, a better schemer. Superior touch and more guile. Even in these areas Gerard was not far behind. But in all other areas, Gerard was far better. His engine, strength, aggression, ground coverage, heading, defending, shooting was very high level.

    • @NazSBG
