The kids in this story were real people. Chris Chambers was Stephen King's best friend as a kid, and he died just the way the story says he did. When King went to see the pre-release screening of the film, he had to go out to the hallway and cry because the movie had captured everything so well.
With great insight, director Rob Reiner realized that the way to get really good performances from the kids was to look for young actors who were as close as possible to the roles they'd be playing. River Phoenix was calm and wise beyond his years, Corey Feldman was a deeply angry child, Jerry O'Connell was good-natured and hyper, and Wil Wheaton was a quiet, depressed boy whose parents took advantage of him and emotionally abused him throughout his life. Reiner saw all of this and ended up with these brilliant performances because in a sense, they _were_ their characters already. It's said that casting is 90% of the success of a film, and this one really proves that.
Teddy’s father was in Normandy and probably suffered from PTSD. That’s why he had these episodes and burnt Teddy’s ear and Teddy being so obsessed with army stuff.

People like Chris know how to essentially break the 4th wall irl. He’s able to cut through the standard way people talk about things and just tell you specifically what you need to hear directly to your face without joking or beating around the bush. He’s dead serious about looking out for you and he doesn’t shy away from it at all

Stand By Me, writen by Stephen King under a pen name I think Richard Bachman? Anyways, this story was based on a similar thing that happened to a kid nearby when he was growing up. His friends and him thought about going looking for the body. Sure can see how he identified as Gordy, maybe that was sorta how he was feeling. River Phoenix was amazing in this one. Was fun enjoying this again with you after so many years. Thanks, man.

Speaking of stephen king books.... if you haven't seen Doctor Sleep.......... do it. freaking amazing. Best book adaptation since The Stand and IT. Awesome story, creepy as hell, amazing. Is the shining part two, never did care for the first, but made the first one make a helluva lot more sense.

One of my favorite 80s flicks
The Sandllot ( 1993 ) def took inspiration from stand by me . Much more lighthearted though. Doesn't have that darker Stephen King edge to it that this one does .
Shawshank and Green mile are two other gotta see Stephen King movies.

if do read books and a bit of advice if stumble back on this one. Dont let the movies here on out confuse you about Ron he isnt like he is in movies. Hes more braver than the directors do to him. And Hermione isnt that perfect she is flawed first being the bathroom with Troll she is book smarts but in battles she panics Ron tho has also issues of self importance of himself , he rather die to protect his friends and he knows more in the "books" the books are far greater than the movies to me personally after movie 3 it goes to crap overall. For many reasons not to the books adds alot of trash and ud see with outfits and just i like moives 1-3 the books are superior . Ron is everyone who read books fav character for most part. %

@@CJmidnightreactions oh wait sorry i must of posted this from a Harry potter movie one how that happen i have no idea :o but disregard the message above not sure why that is on Stand by me tho in the books sadly all the kids die but Gordie :( when i found out by the truth i rather the movie. But unsure why Harry potter on a stand by me i am confused when noticed that but its true from that movie series the books are better.

@@CJmidnightreactions yw and when i found out the truth from book of Stand by me its sad. Teddy gets in a car crash dies in book from what i looked up and Vern died in a house fire. Sad all his friends in book die that why glad movie is better with the characters in sense tho ... sad about Chambers :(
