RIP, River Phoenix. He was the older brother to Joaquin Phoenix. He passed away in 1993 from a drug overdose at age 23. He was cast as the interviewer in Anne Rice's INTERVIEW WITH THE VAMPIRE, but his friend Christian Slater was cast and the movie was dedicated in his memory.
One of the few beautifully honest looks at childhood. This has stayed a top 10 movie of mine, no matter how many years go by.
I too was born in early ‘50s and grew up, like a lot you, when kids were left to their own devices most of the time. You know, leave the house in the morning to meet up with your friends with you mom shouting, “Come home when the street lights go on!” This film captures what it was like being a boy better than any film I know. When looking back I don’t have enough fingers to count the number of times I should’ve been dead from the stunts my friends and I pulled. Good times.

This movie is pure nostalgia. It takes you right back at your childhood and the friends we had when we were young. Absolute classic!

Great movie. This movie is always kind of sad considering Reaver Phonix died in real life. Another great kid adventure movie is Flight Of The Navigator . A great coming of age movie (With older people not kids) no one reacted to is Big Wednesday. Also another Rob Riener great movie is When Harry Met Sally.

Right?! These kids are so good not like the Disney or Nickelodeon kind of acting. It's sooo real.
I felt really bad for Teddy. His dad was a hero at Normandy and thus suffered from PTSD. It wasn’t understood at the time so it went undiagnosed and Teddy paid the price.

You should watch Natural Born Killers! Robert Downey Jr playing an Australian journalist is so funny I feel like you’d enjoy the film! So underrated
I saw this movie in the theater when I was 12. I saw it with my two best friends. My one friend looked exactly like Vern, I mean _exactly_ down to the buzz cut and red cheeks. My other friend was a lot like Chris, but he also had some Teddy in him as he did crazy things. I was a writer, even then, but I looked like Lardass.
This movie is very special to me because there was so much I recognized in my own life up on the screen, but also because I felt like it was talking to me, telling me to appreciate those times and those friends. And I did.
And I never had friends again like I had when I was twelve...

Newspaper should have said " Chris chambers fatally stabbed " so the viewer really thought ace was gonna kill him in the body scene . One of the few things I would change in the movie but if we're changing things I wouldn't kill Chris off , atleast not that way . just seems wierd at the very end he gets stabbwd in the neck and dies .
