What a great man, letting Guy ride McQeen’s Triumph!
4:46 when he said "I'm glad you started that, that's what I admire about you" pure respect!! Two wheels one love
So, were you the drummer or lead guitarist? :)
Never gives up and massively humble. Top bloke 💪🏽
Had the pleasure of working with Guy today and had a 1 to 1 chat with him for 15mins
I know I will never meet a more enthusiastic, knowledgeable and genuine man ever
Bike worth 1.5 million. Guy rides it a few yards. Now Priceless.
You have no idea what you are talking about. If guy martin rides any bike then it goes up in value. He’s a world champion 😂
@@robxal you know what priceless means?
Yeah? No, @@robxal
"Please Do Not Touch Or Sit On This Motorcycle"
Guy Martin: ...
Yeah but people are like... hmm.. he's smashed the tt several times and has several world records.. it'll be fine.. and literally everyone has so far and he's excelled everytime
@@rubyboy99 Well, I agree, Guy is a great man ☺️ & people do feel safe to trust him. 😊
Steve McQueen did do the jump and so did a few of the other actors that were on set. He did not do the jump while the film was rolling, that was Bud Ekins, Steve's friend, and stunt double. On the day before filming while cutting the ramp into the hill, Steve and Bud did a number of "test" jumps over a rope.
There’s an article in Money Inc by Benjamin Smith, updated 09/29/21 describing McQueen and others making the jump and allegedly all were filmed the day before the actual shoot. Ref: “What Was the Steve McQueen Motorcycle Used in “The Great Escape?”
What a humble bloke. Thanks for sharing 👍🇦🇺
Best motorcycle scene in all cinema. Yes Bud Ekins did the jump in case Steve got injured.
Yup that bike is a holly Grail of motorcycle history. 😊😊
I am a big Steve McQueen fan and it would be a dream to ride that motorcycle.
I literally just finished watching On Any Sunday for the first time and then opened up CZcams to see this. Got myself a VHS copy of the movie and decided to finally watch it today. It's actually rewinding as I'm typing this
The very bike that started my love for Motorcycles😍🥰
"Piles", I'm crying over here.
I've got a poster with Steve McQueen sitting on the bike .The halt sign in the background .Something cool about that scene in the movie .I bet even the Germans watching it wanted him to get to Switzerland and freedom.
When Dreams Come True , Great Video Guy And Team . Keep Them Coming .
I wonder if Guy has seen the film "On any Sunday" as Steve McQueen was in that competing in a local scramble.
You wonder if he’s seen it? ...Seriously? I can promise you 100% for sure he has seen it just like any other self respecting serious rider and racer would!
Steve McQueen raced in the International 6 Day Trials in Europe too ISD
@@jasong9502 What prompted my question was the owner having to tell Guy that McQueen was a capable rider who loved bikes to which Guy replied "was he ?"

@@taylorthompson2073 I never saw it when I was young.. I just bought the DVD like 7 years ago
What a lucky bastard. With All due respect.
Guy Martin hes just great to watch
I would kill for a ride in that iconic motorcycle.
Thanks for playing music over the sound of the original great escape Trumpy, that was super intelligent editing.
Great video Guy, that is one cool bike. Thanks for sharing. Cheers
Good on ya, Guy! Eakins was a HELL of a rider and driver. He's the guy that dumps the bike in front of McQueen's Mustang in Bullit. Eakins is also the guy that does almost every driving shot in the film where you can't see Frank Bullit's face. They wouldn't let McQueen do the dangerous stunt driving, but he was the guy doing 100+ doing things you can I can't do; he was a legit race car driver. McQueen loved long-distance dirt bike racing and was really good at it. He also loved just riding in the desert. See "Any Given Sunday" from 1971. That's McQueen's film, not the 1999 one. McQueen liked Husqvarna bikes too.
Seen him him on an Honda Elsinore also true bike enthusiasts. God bless one day I might get to ride with him in the here after.
Restoring that bike must have been an adventure. I can't imagine how it must have looked like after decades on a farm.
Guy ROCKS.
I can't believe you rode that bike that's Steve McQueen's bike awesome
Love how they've put a two stoke sound over in places
Dick Shepherd is a really nice man and often is at Triumph Hinckley . he owns most of the display bikes i think .
Probably one of the coolest dude's on earth!
Steve McQueen or Guy Martin?
@@roberttill3787 both!
Another exclusive bike he's ridden. Britten 1000 was my favourite.
Like to see him ride hailwood's 78 TT Ducati.
Wow that was cool top 1 😀🏍️.
Really love your channel Guy - became a big fan of yours when I learned of the IOMTT years ago, you were always my favorite rider. Of course also a big fan of McQueen I've been looking forward to you performing this stunt.
If you haven't already seen the film you MUST check out the original On Any Sunday from 1971. There is some great footage of McQueen racing motocross, baja and others. Also footage of Malcom Smith and I'm sure he needs no introduction to anyone that's watching you and your videos.
Keep up the great work Guy!! big fan from across the pond in Cleveland OH USA - CHEERS!!
You only need to say TT , as there isn’t any other TT that can beat the Isle of Man one. When Valentino Rossi went to watch for the first time he called the riders mad for racing there and that he hasn’t got the balls to do it himself.
McQueen was far more than merely a "very capable" rider . McQueen was an accomplished and winning Desert Rider and an ISDT Team Rider(1964), which is a tremendous achievement and qualifies anyone as far beyond merely capable and earns the label as a "great" rider....
Fan # 761. 🤘
Epic.
Great work as always. Does anyone know if there is a film showing this bike before or better still during its restoration? and don't say 'Yes... The Great Escape'! 😉 I would love to see what it looked like in its 'as found' condition.
Very Nice Indeed!
The King of Cool was good with offroad-bikes (Did the Sixdays in GDR for the US-Team) and with endurance racecars (according to the comments of racers filming with him 'Le Mans' as quoted in the book 'A french kiss with death').
Gooday Guy
The Steve McQueen bike is an iconic movie bike! Do you know about the Australian, Sydney Kawasaki Z1 motorcycle movie 'Stone' from 1974?
One could argue that Internationally it is possibly 'the' iconic motorcycle movie, rivaling 'Easy Rider!'
'Stone,' its surviving (all customised) bikes, the locations in Eastern Sydney, the director Sandy Harbut and the other actors are all legends. The movie production attracted thousands of extra's with their own bikes for a funeral ride from Sydney to Newcastle in NSW. The movie has affiliations with our Vietnam war veterans and all Aussies of the Vietnam, and post Vietnam era (like me, I was 14 when it appeared and I already had bikes).
I think you might enjoy checking the movie out - it is highly regarded by most Aussies and particularly bikies who really ride, hard and fast! This movie and it's legacy might be an excuse to bring you and a crew to Sydney, and during your Winter, our Summer! David. Canberra.
@Lex Hawthorn
Nice! Your mate is a great favourite! You know about Harley's in those days... 'they didn't go, they didn't stop, and they leaked oil on your girlfriends fathers' drivway.' Kawasaki brought real performance, reliability and lifestyle to motorcycling. Stone Forever!
Sounds just like the movie 😁👍
Steve McQueen did all the riding in Great Escape Bud Elkins just did the jump.
'he was a dealer!'
How cool was that
Waw that's a treat...
Oh boy have a I struggled with the foot position too. Until I got some advice from an oldtimer. He said: foot position for racing is like a 10mm spanner and for off-roading it's like a 30mm spanner. On way part of your foot do you tranfer your weight?
this year 2020, at the boys republic steve mcqueen car and bike show the theme is the great escape
The geezer from Triumph sounds like Derek from Bangers & Cash TV series who owns Matthewsons Classic Motor Auction
When he was starting-out in acting, McQueen was riding in small local events in the UK such as Hillclimbs and scrambles. He was still an unknown. Not many photos.
Steve McQueen is a God!
🇬🇧😷🇬🇧 😃 This Guy is great 👍 😁💪🇬🇧,
I had a 62 Bonny in High School.
Hinckley , Leicestershire ?
GUY MARTIN FOR PRIME MINISTER!
I'd like to see Guy duplicate Eddie Kid's 15 Double decker busses on a BSA B50 like he did in UK. Unreal stunt man, Bud did the BSA A65 drop in Bullit he was Steve's stand in.
I’m in Australia & the closest I’ll ever get to this bike is the official factory Triumph Steve McQueen REPLICA!!!🤪😎 Still a cool bike nonetheless. You’re a lucky guy Guy!🍀
Make you a better road rider Guy ! :) . Faster 'round I O M !!!!!
If no one yet knows you can watch all of this on all 4 in full.
On youtube?
Guy: *fixes bike*
Bike: *Worth £1.5 Million*
I like the 800 Bonneville my dad owned one
I've got one. Awesome bike, built like a tank, mine has the "illegal" off road pipes....love it!
You cant get anymore english than our guy martin !!!!
Well done mate ,fly the bloody flag !!!!🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧

@@PatrickKelly-lz3pv ,ah ok,.....my mistake,......but he is still english no???
Triumph english !!!......no ....built in Thailand!!!!......oh shit !!!!!!
Oh bugger it !!! Your right .
Well triumph were built in england .....when they were good .
(and that is the BRITISH flag)

Talking Steve McQueen not doing the jump for insurance reasons earlier, proceeds to take an iconic _ORIGINAL_ 1.5Mpound bike for a casual spin!
I’ve got the other two of the three triumphs that were used on the great escape , there in my shed , my dad put them there , which is about as honest as that bike ! , there was a film in which Bud Ekins said he broke all three bikes up , I doubt McQueen was looking down laughing , more likely cursing along with mr Ekins
Proper.
Guy could fun at an insurance seminar.
Beautiful dont sit on bike please, guy martin YEAH right takes it for a ride I thought he was going to jump the thing or take it down the road wide open like if he was in the ISLE OF MAN but still cool
Did Steve McQueen ever appear alongside laurence olivier in a movie? Cos that would be epic.
Steve MaQueen. Would enter hair scrambles. Under the name Harvey Mushman.
Wonder did he use that name at Le Mans.
i have a Triumph motorcycle watch...
Why they restored the McQueen bike rather than "preserve" it as original is beyond me??? Regardless of the condition it was found in, its historical value would be much greater.
BTW, that's the Johnny Allen "Texas Ceegar" land speed record holder in background at the museum. A very significant piece of Triumph racing history.
Thailand 👍
When will we see the jump on youtube? :)
Once they've posted it, you will be able to see it.
@@Mr.iceman83 I like your scientific approach.
Strange. The triumph bike from the movie is displayed at Trev Deely Harley Davidson collection in Vancouver BC Canada
The bike doesn't exist... This bike is a complete FAKE. Only the original engine survived.... That's in the US
Not a chance
Notice it's only right after he cracked the joke about McQueen looking down laughing, the bike finally started. The cynic in me says it's editing
The instinct in me says it was McQueen.
Guy probably added another £100,000 to the value.
You reckon they told Guy how much it was worth before or after he rode it?
I'm sure McQueen would have wanted to do the jump himself, probably insurance reasons barred it. I've seen stories of how he used to go out and race on weekends under false names to get around the studios not wanting him to do it.
If you watch the whole documentary the owner of the land confirms that Steve McQueen did jump it .
McQueen regularly competed in Enduro, Scramber ad Desert Racing. He was good enough to have competed in the 1964 ISDT, which means he was quite literally a World Class Racer.
"When he's over, offer it to Guy. Nobody here can get it running". #secretagenda
I think with what the mustang just sold for the bike would be worth more now.
I always thought it was odd that McQueen rode a Triumph in that scene, since I knew the Germans had BMWs. 99 out of 100 moviegoers wouldnt know the difference
Is this a tv show?
iodineclip yeah it is on 4od to watch the whole thing very worth it
excuse me, do you have a license for that
I bet the guy who bought his bullit mustang would pay a nice price for it.
I am so surprised that they used Triumph in a movie that is set in WW2 Germany where all the motorbikes would have been BMW and the like. Can anyone tell me why that was ?
Did the Wehrmacht have Triumphs? A BMW would have been way too heavy to jump a barbed wire fence
Then you have never seen the ISDT BMW's
£1.5 M for the bike, bet Guy was kacking it!
designanddirection
Very well could have been worth that before they ruined it by restoring it.
A very misleading vid - I thought he was going to do the jump on Steve McQueen’s bike from the movie. However, after learning it was worth 1,500,000 pounds, I can see why that could have never happened.
Jason Jackson
Put it up for auction and see how far away from that it really is. Restoring it ruined its value… Don’t believe me? Look up the “bullitt mustang“ that just sold for almost 3 1/2 million dollars.
Apple Sucks - funny you should say that about the mustang, I met the guy who found that mustang & it was wild how they found it & Ford did a forensic analysis of it & proved it was the real deal - that’s why he got the big money for it.
BTW, in 1984 I used my entire savings & purchased $7,000 of Apple stock for a company you say sucks. My friend who encouraged me said it was a real comer. 😂
That $7K has slightly gone up over the 35 years.
hay can some celebs drive my walking tractor maybe ill get 100.000 for it
I understand the need to make a living. But this grand production for one jump over a fence is over the top. Just kick it in the guts and fuckin do it.
1st
Bike worth 1.5 million will not start....my bike worth £250 comes with battery and starts first time everytime...now who has the best one...!
You can ride it if you want...... that is what sh... bike said...
its more like - he tries to start mcqueens bike for 10 min and then rolls it around for some seconds on the parking lot....hmmm :-/ anyways intersting story
Why bother practicing on a dirt bike with a shitload of suspension travel only to do the jump on a bike with next to no suspension?
That's like Guy practicing to drive an F1 car around Silverstone by 1st driving a jeep up a mountain!! Completely pointless training.
Wrong and wrong. The bike he did the jump on has 10” suspension. And the jump did require training for someone like guy who hasn’t much experience with it. Maybe do some research before commenting.
Unfortunately ladies and gentlemen that isn't the origional bike. I used to work in a classic Triumph shop and the owners of that shop know the true location of the bike used (1961 Triumph TR6SS).
love Guy but he does not know how to start a British bike, pointless trying to bump start a bike with a magneto as It doesn't use a battery for the ignition, did they even tickle the carb?
2:28 “We restored it“ = not original anymore. Translation… We ruined it
How many new parts was put on it, I bet there's not much of the original bike left.
Disrespectful fool who will never have anything on McQueen. The piles comment is just low and hope Martin is cursed!
Take a chill pill
That was just a weird thing to say.
Was that it? FFS! 5.34 mins of my life wasted!
This bike is a complete FAKE... The original bike ended up in a skip in Germany. The engine was taken back to the USA & bud Ekins fitted the it into an ISDT bike (which still exists....)
I was curious as to legitimacy of it. Also, if it were the original, they OVER restored it. Fresh everything just looks wrong on something like this.
