      You have no interest in psychiatry or medicine. You have an interest in MONEY. If it paid ONLY 100K you'd be working some other $h!tty hustle. And you're willing to promote politically motivated lies about race, human sexuality and family to get that money no matter how many lives are destroyed by those lies. Now go ask your mother why she couldn't raise a decent human being.

    Super helpful. One downside of being a psychiatrist I can think is - you have to be fluent and fluid in the language you are consulting. I am a Brazilian European, and I would like to be mobile.

    Thanks for making this, I know I got a lot from it personally. I feel myself drawn towards psychiatry, but there is one thing that concerns me and that is the prescribing of medication. Do you guys try to avoid prescribing meds as much as possible and can someone be a psychiatrist and not prescribe medication at all?

      Hopefully this is helpful after 2 years😭
      I'm also leaned into psychiatry, and from what I understand most patients a psychiatrist might encounter will probably need medication since psychiatrists deal with more serious mental disorders then a psychologist would
      But I myself have had a similar thought, I feel like a lot of psychiatrist just prescribe medication and nothing more, if I succeed in becoming a psychiatrist I'd rather only give medication when actually needed and lean into psychotherapy

      @Letstalk-zx7jx Před měsícem

      @jello7177 That's exactly what I want to do , less mess unless absolutely necessary, and more psychotherapy.

    How different is intern year in a psychiatry residency program from other specialities. For instance, most IM or FM residency programs have you start seeing and managing patients immediately. I'm interested in a psychiatry residency, but besides my core rotation I don't have enough experience. So how are you being taught or supervised as a intern?

    • @DrYokiandDrLu
      @DrYokiandDrLu  Před 3 lety +1

      Hey Keren, thanks for watching our video! Intern year in psychiatry is different than in other specialties because the time spent on non-psychiatry rotations is shorter. So for psychiatry intern year, we only do 6 months total of medicine, neurology, and emergency medicine (some programs do require ICU too). Psychiatry residents on medicine rotations still function like any other intern - we manage patients independently but work alongside a senior resident. I'm not sure how intern year is like in other programs, but in my program I get plenty of supervision so I never feel like I don't know what I'm doing. I ask my senior resident any questions I have and they also help with tasks that need to be done. I hope this helped!

    Thank you for this really helpful video! 👍👍👍Can I please ask the difference between clinical psychologist and psychiatrist? I am struggling to choose one the subjects, clinical psychology or medicine😂 As some websites said psychiatrists do not usually do therapy and can prescribe medicine, but many psychiatrists also do the therapy, so does that mean the only difference of the working contents between psychiatrists and clinical psychologists is medicine prescription? Thank you!

    • @DrYokiandDrLu
      @DrYokiandDrLu  Před 3 lety +4

      Hi! Thanks for stopping by our channel. We never considered clinical psychology before because we didn't decide on psychiatry until we were in medical school- but it's a great field! We love practicing psychotherapy which they do a lot of. Yoki did seriously consider neurology during medical school because there are so many interesting diseases within neurology. She ultimately went with psychiatry as it best suited all of her interests!
