The new Google Chromecast with Google TV is an incredible streaming device, but there's so much more we can do with this new streamer from Google. We can take the device much further and get better and better results out of it. This is because it has the new Google TV (or the older Android TV) interface on it, and this means we can do great things!
Today I'm going to show you a number of things you can buy, and a number of things you can add to this device. Plus, I'll show you how to get the Google Play Store on the new Google Chromecast, and show you how to start loading on other apps. We'll start the sideloading process, but that will be saved for Part 2 of our hidden tips and #tricks or #hacks with the new #Google #Chromecast.

Awesome video (as always Brian) - the new Chromecast is really a totally different product to the original one, they really should have just called it Google TV.
Looking forward to seeing all the extra things you can do, I am an iPhone guy myself so some standard android tricks may be obvious to others but great to dip a toe in another ecosystem with the Google TV. The link to a NAS/DLNA is especially helpful, we haven't all got time to setup and maintain a Plex Server!

Awesome vid ! Btw , I noticed that I could no longer issue a ‘rewind’ voice command to the new Chromecast if the video is being played on a Netflix or prime video app. However , if I cast the movie to the Chromecast, it can execute a rewind via voice command. Any work around on this limitation? Hope you have found some way to do this when watching via the installed app. Thank you and please keep making these awesome videos!

New subscriber here. Just a yes or no would be very helpful Brian. When in the CZcams app can you press the voice button and search for a video from anywhere in the app.thx man.
Don't know anymore. I ditched this a while ago. I believe the answer is no, as it tries to search everything.

Great video! I also wanted to know is there any way you can get a Nest Doorbell notification on the Chromecast Google TV? Like it shows on the Nest Home Hub, ie you can see the stream of the Doorbell as soon as someone rings the doorbell.
As of now, I haven't seen that option. I think it'll come relatively soon though as it's a major ask.

Weirdly enough, when you select audio receiver sound setting whilst setting up the Chromecast, it doeant give an option for LG receivers, despite having them listed for tv's, which was quite frustrating but otherwise I'm incredibly happy with this little device, I'm like a kid here!

Well here in denmark where we only have a basic version og the android 10 version on the chromecast the remap app works and things gets assigned to the buttons i choose but however it will still pick my first click as a functions so i have fx to go out of netflix if i long press or double tap on the Netflix button. Hopefully things gets fixed as time moves on here in dk

You know, I never tried.... I would think you could get them to play through the actual Drive app if you side loaded it on there. Alot like VLC. Watch Part 2 and you'll see me use that!

Functionality can be further improved, by including audio Downmix to stereo and DRC (dynamic range compression) off options, when multichannel audio content is played and sent to other audio equipment via Bluetooth.
Is that an option on the Chromecast!? I don't have it!
@@AutomateYourLife It is, but its in automatic mode. What I ask from Google is to make it available to the end user in order to set it in accordance with the audio equipment used.
In my audio set-up I have an Android compatible DVD player connected through a powered USB-C Hub that is connected to the Chromecast with Google TV and the Chromecast sends the audio signal via Bluetooth to my audio system.
I love to cast from my laptop as I have a movie and show library on my laptop. My original Chromecast does this seamlessly. I worry about upgrading and losing that feature. I use videostream which is a chrome extension and allows me to open up my movie or tv show from my harddrive into the chrome browser and then cast it fully just like if I was watching anything else like youtube!
I always have youtube playing while I work on my laptop and when I am done I do still just hit the cast button to make that switch to my tv.
Would you say that the new Chromecast is a way of not needing to invest in a full on smart tv? I've been trying to decide if I want to spend the extra money on a fully functional smart TV or if buying a dumb on with the new chromecast would be a cheaper option esp since I am very much Google based! I totally would say this is a way to not invest in a full smart TV, and I always recommend these instead! TVs are never kept up in terms of an operating system, and these streamers usually are.

I hate to invest in things that don't age well, not just bc of my money, but there was a time where you had a tv until it died and this whole tv's, phones, computers, etc all being disposable after only a year or so is sad for our planet as well. I would rather have a "dumb tv" that works for me than a smart one that needs to be replaced for no reason other than compatibility!!

Android TVs don't show up for use with this feature. Use any Chromecast at all in another HDMI port and you're good to go.

Just to clarify, are you saying that Built-in Chromecast is different to an externally plugged in one, in a way that external can be added to the Speaker group but built-in one can't? if that's the case then I will buy an external one. My built-in Chromecast does show up in the Google Home (and does the Video-cast) but it doesn't appear (annoyingly) when I try to add it to the Speaker group. Thanks.

hi lately i have brought a new 55 inch smart tv and yestday spent all day trying to get the built in chrome cast to work propley i tryed casting a movies website from my laptop while playing a film but theres 10 second lag between video and sound and even moving mouse pointer even you tube using chrome browser still doing same but if i go on you tube cast the video there uses the you tube app on my smart tv its fine so cant solve this please can someone help with this please
Hey Brian this is unrelated. I bought the Kohler Moxie shower head tuned by Harmon Kardon at Costco. They have the basic Bluetooth version.
What an amazing sound in the shower. I paired it to an old mini I had lying around. They say HK tuned it to cancel the running water sound. Maybe that's why it sounds so loud and clear.
There's supposed to be a version compatible with Alexa and Google but I haven't found much information on it. Maybe you can review it in the future. But please no shower scenes. Lol

Here's one trick from me. I was going to return my Chromecast with Google TV when 🤔 it kept freezing 🥶 on me. 4K wouldn't play without buffering. So this is what I did to fix it; I made it forget my Wi-Fi network and then I signed in to the same Wi-Fi again. Everything worked fine after that. Nice trick right? Ta-Da!!!

I have an old Sonos I'd like to use for good sound since I'm using the Chromecast on an old monitor which has poor speakers.
You could use Bluetooth as your connection, but depending on the speaker/headphones there could be a delay. It's even different per app sometimes....
So my recommendation is headphones if you got Bluetooth ones!
Can you pair the chromecast with Google max like as a soundbar?

Everything worked flawlessly.One hiccup the anker 60 watt power brick amazon sent me was a refurb and I believe it's bad....blue light wont even stay on. Have another rav I am using until the replacement I order comes. It is a 60 watt anker two port usb c. One other question though about adding cameras. No way to actually control the camera is there as far as like a zoom in or out or anything. Thanks
I don't think you can zoom or move much unless the app you're using allows that. So I know you're probably bringing up the camera using Google, but there are other apps you could open instead :)

If you can tell about the other progs for camera even here or if it needs to be offline.....yeah those are really the only two things i have left that i would like to be able to do.

Hi is there a way to use the Chromecast remote to control a Sony tv with Google tv? Like zip through settings apps etc and not only volume and power
I haven't seen a way to pair it directly to TVs just yet, but I haven't been trying. If your Sony TV uses Bluetooth to connect to remotes, you could try a pairing...but then it wouldn't be paired to the Chromecast.
I have watched your video about adding a keyboard and mouse, I have added a logitech k220 wireless keyboard and mouse.
They worked , but after the last chromcast software update, the both stopped working .
Do you have any idea why ? Or any idea how to fix the issue?

Sadly, I don't know what's happened but I'm hoping the next update lets all of that work again! As far as I hear, a new one is coming asap and it has lots of user requested improvements.
I am trying to remap the Netflix button and installed the app you show. Sadly, at this date, it won't customize/remap that button unless you pay for the Button Mapper (by flar2) app.

I was wondering if you might still be answering questions from this post? I’ve gone out and purchased everything you recommend and everything is working well but some channels cannot be transferred to the USB space, instead of the Chromecast space (4 Gigs). Some are able to migrate over to USB storage but others can’t, including CBC news, which surprised me. Can you please shed some light on this issue as I’ve checked Google and can’t find anything about it. Thanks a million, Brian.

I'm always responding (if I can)! Sadly, I haven't tried something like CBC! I don't know why certain things like that wouldn't transfer, but I can imagine something like the app just not having all the right code to allow for something like this.

I can’t figure out why I’m able to transfer some channels to my USB storage but BeeTV/CatMouse/Airy.TV/CBC News/CBS/ and a lot more can’t be transferred over and must remain on main storage. Complete bummer! Hopefully it’s something that can be worked around as that 4.4G will run out fast.
Just to make it stranger, CyberTV/FastMovies/FileLinked/Kodi and many others can be stored on USB storage with no problem at all. I can’t figure out what the common denominator is here and how it’s decided what goes where.

What would you recommend for a VPN for the chromecast? I have the GCN cycling app and use a VPN on my desktop, and wondering if its worth for a chromecast VPN
I can't say I use VPNs very often. There's just not much use anymore, but I did enjoy ExpressVPN when I had it on the Fire Stick because it worked well and gave me some extra features.

I don't know of any way to help you with this...I don't have the TV and I don't think you can pair just a straight up IR controller to the Chromecast.
so a quick question for you.....instead of spending $83 + canabux on an anker power block, then buying a usb C to usb C to cable, i found a "65W USB-C/Type C Laptop Charger Power Supply Adapter for Lenovo Yoga Chromebook series" that goes for $37 and has a USB C cable attached to it. Can you think of any reason not to use it?

I bought a USB c hub and connected Connect it to my Chromecast TV and transferred files to a USB drive. It is so slow and playing the file app that is in the drive and it crashes. Is any recommendations. The whole purpose to buy the hub Is to have more internal memory in the Chromecast but the external memory slows down Everything that I open. My ports are 3.0
How do I change the scale size on this google tv
I have an android app that I'll sideload which required the use of the "Menu Button" to pull up the menu in the app. The FireTV has a menu button on the remote, but I'm concerned that this Google Chromecast doesn't have a Menu Button on the remote.
I keep thinking that the google assistance button, single tap, is the menu button. And a long tap, brings up the google assistant.
Can you clarify if the remote has a menu button or not, or if it's gone completely?
I understand there is a button remapper software, but I rather not use it if I don't have to.
There's no "menu" button per se. However, I think you'll have lots of options like the button mapping software, and potentially a keyboard maybe giving you an option.
@@AutomateYourLife I'm giving the system to an older couple, so they'll need a physical button and I'm sure they'll get confused when I tell them to click the Netflix button for the menu button.
Just wondering if there's a way to keep both Bluetooth and actual TV audio that Chromecast is connected working simultaneously!

Hi all, eager to know, is it possible to show the Google Calendar in the Chromecast or can the Google Calendar Application can be installed?, i really need this solution to connect my mobile device calendar and chromecast calendar synch each other under the same account.Whenever i create a task or event, its been updated in the production TV to show the upcoming tasks or events.
As long as you're using the same account, it's possible that this feature will show up...but the feature isn't just available today per se. However, while I've actually never tried to download and install the base Calendar app, once you can sideload you should be able to do this. Sideload plus a keyboard navigation would really help for login.
Would the firestick remote CV98LM pair with it?
Only asking for these as they are pretty cheap.

Just to follow up, got one of those older firestick remotes I mentioned above. Can also confirm it pairs and works with the chromecast with google tv device. But ofcourse only basic functions like the navigate pad, enter, play, forward, rewind, back and home keys work.
The menu key (hamburger) doesnt do anything and ofcourse theres no off button or volume but dont need any of that as its only for use as 2nd remote.
So yeah, basic functions is all I needed. Now I have my own remote while missus can use the original and we can fight over apps/channels lol.
Hi, I just bought one of this. Looks good but I think it has a major design failure. There is no way to change the tv channels with the remote control. You can turn on the TV, rise or lower the volume, change the input but no way to change the tv channels. So at the end I still need my TV remote control.

Yeah, this remote is really for the Chromecast, not your whole TV. There's really no channel button on the remote.
Try a Harmony maybe for your situation.
@@AutomateYourLife I have had the Harmony for years. I was hopping to get rid of Harmony with this Chromecast. I don't know if the Amazon Fire stick remote control can handle this scenario.

question, can you use a keyboard, mouse and the Chromecast remote simultaneously? It seems either keyboard and mouse work then i have to unplug it to use the remote again. Is this normal?
I could do that when I did this, but maybe it's been changed. Seems like something's being disconnected?
Can you plung the Chromecast into a soundbar? I cannot passthrough Atmos TrueHD to my soundbar because I have Arc but not eArc. The soundbar could pass video to the tv though so an Nvidia Shield plugged into the soundbar would work. Is it the same here or must the Chromecast be plugged exclusively into the TV proper?
I haven't been able to get it to work, but it's not like I have 4 soundbars to try :)

What is the required internet speed for Google Chromecast TV? Some say that you must have at least 25mbps speed to watch the Google Chromecast TV. Is that true. Because I want to buy that device but my internet speed is not stable. I have a plan 30mbps. But I always got 19-20mbps only when I use my speedtest.
That's going to vary based on the service you're using more so than the device itself. Netflix states 3 Mbps

@@AutomateYourLife I use it for both Netflix and Disney. I want recommendations based on what I watch and like and not what my wife or kids prefers. The "my list" or "continue watching list" would get super messed up if it mixed everything. And our youngest has a kids account. It much easier both for the kids and me if everything is a bit more sorted. They start watching pretty much everything so their profiles are just a mess and I prefer not to have that mixed with my lists.
And of course we have our own CZcams accounts where we follow/watch very different stuff.
We also have a Guest account for the movie services where guests can go in and mess around best they want.

Did you format it in the actual Chromecast? Doesn't sound like it if it's not recognizing it. Try a FAT32 format

Hello, I have problem with powering my chromecast google tv via my projector usb power delivery port. This port is usb-a 1.5A but still chromecast giving me that screen low power. Ive checked projector setting and power port is on and ok. Its projector optoma hd29hst and even in spec its wroted that port is for powering devices like chromecast... Dont know what to do else.
It sounds like your port is not powering properly. I would just do a test by running the cable down to the wall and make sure it is that port not powering. The other problem could be around needing to power the projector on first and then maybe that USB port comes on?

On the Amazon FireTV, you can require a pin to launch any app. This way kids can't try to sneak netflix or disney when they don't have screen time. Does the GoogleTV have something similar? I saw your note about the child profile, but that is only part of it.

Got the hub , pen drive and ssd. Working good. Only problem is mouse , tried matvt , cetus play mouse , physical keyboard and mouse. Click function not working. Also no browser for downloading 4k movies from websites. Any help would be much appreciated...
Not sure how to help. You should need no apps or anything special to get the click working. Haven't tried this in a bit though so maybe something broke?

I was using by Sony WH1000XM-2's! They worked just fine!
As for a bluetooth speaker...man, it's been a strange device to pair speakers and headphones/earbuds with. Some things just work...some just don't. Why? I can't figure it out yet.

You should be able to use the USBC hub to have the chromecast connected via ethernet.

Got mine last monday. All funtions in the interface was not there, maybe becouse i was using swedish as settings. Could just see 3 top categorys Start, apps and library.
And another thing , the tv brand i could not find when setting the remote. So i could not use the IR funktion.
Yeah I'm hearing this outside of a few brands of TVs. That's frustrating and something that Google will need to add more of.
What I discovered was that if you have a VPN mapped to the US, you'll have all those functions appear. Anything outside of the US I guess leaves you without the movies and shows functions.

It's Disney Plus and it's a known thing with Chromecast. To me it seems like it's an issue between Google and Disney at the moment.

Hi Brian, I couldn't get the Google play movies app to show up in apps list. When I search for it using the Google Assistant it will pull it up and it shows that it's installed but it isn't showing in my apps any ideas how I can get it to show up there?
Oh good news! The Google Play Movies app is essentially embedded into the device as a whole. The whole set of videos you own should be in the menu under Library at the top! Otherwise, any show you search for will allow you to buy from "Google TV" which will be the overall replacement for Play Movies.

What I want is the app to show up in my app row. When I use the Google Assistant button and ask for Google play movies it opens up and shows me like Library, Early Access movies, most popular movies, ..., Movie deals of the week, ..., HD movies under $8, at the very bottom of the list with those on the left side of the screen it says Help and Settings.
I was able to find Button Mapper from my Chromecast in the play store.

Yep! It just depends on how your TV powers that port whether or not you'll have to turn on the TV first.
But not likely for all the peripherals I added to the Chromecast in this series.

A PS4 controller works great as a backup with the exception of volume control cannot find a way to make that work
hmmmm...I think just the display might be able to raise the volume on your chromecast. After you ask you'll get a little interface to raise the volume (but your settings have to be right)

I haven't really had audio lag, but if you're having it...are you using a Bluetooth speaker? Cause they can introduce it.
I also hate the fact i Cannot change volume of my TV with the google tv remote, because manufacturer of my TV is not famous one, another bummer for me 😨
