    The new character sprites look so good! Seems like you’ve come so far in such a short amount of time. With the amount of detail and complexity in not only the art, but the code, I assumed you were a seasoned game designer and programmer when I saw your 1st devlog almost 2 years ago. I was impressed then and even more so now watching Chef RPG progress and improve as you continue to grow as an artist and game developer. It’s not only fun but incredibly inspiration for the rest of us indie game dev. I can’t wait for the next update!

    one thing that I think would be interesting to do in chef rpg would be that the npcs really do things, like the fishermen collecting the nets and cleaning the fish, that you have to wait for the butcher to serve another customer who has blinded before you, the tourists taking pictures with cyberpunk cameras, things like that, because whenever I play a game I think it's weird that the npc stays in the same place day and night, like something synthetic that doesn't fit with the world.
    ps: I appreciate your effort, keep striving and focused.

    • @Afreshio
      @Afreshio Před rokem +20

      its because coding AI is fucking difficult dude. NPCs movement are a nightmare and the more complex the hardest. It can be done like Majora's Mask like predetermined paths in certain times of the day and adding a weekly system or the game ocurring during a narrow period of time so you can programm a schedule for every NPC character.
      But semi random movement, that looks natural and doesn't fucks up something critical in the game or creates a bug? Its way harder.

    • @YourComputerExpert
      @YourComputerExpert Před 5 měsíci +1

      @@Afreshio You could simply make a small set of paths for an NPC that it could follow. Not very difficult at all with some minor coding experience.

Like you said there are a lot of topics there that can make you loose your way or confuse you. The best thing is to list out what you want, rather than thinking about it in your head. Once its on paper, it will make more sense to you. Then you can get the better picture and tweak it depending on where you want to take your idea to. Always start small , with a single idea an then as you iterate on it, the rest will fall in place as you get more confidence in handling the project and when you actually get a feel of when the next wave is going to come, then you can be ready to shift focus on adding more functionalities and such. Good job and very inspiring.

  • @ThePaulineu
    @ThePaulineu Před 2 lety +4

    A couple ideas I have for the game:
    First, things to make sure about just in case (you’ve probably thought about it already):
    -make sure the gathering does not lead to grinding that isn’t fun: it has to avoid repetition and feel rewarding… the best gathering systems help encourage exploration of the overworld
    -make sure the employees can’t be overworked by the player without consequences
    -Make sure to test wether or not your game is inherently fun to play with (sound design, animation, good controls and interesting mechanics are key. A simple gameplay loop is just a simple gameplay loop)
    For additions:
    -one or two characters you could build relationships with and get actually closer to (maybe date?) would be super fun. Doesn’t need to be 10 options like other games do, just having one or two characters you can romance in an RPG is often fun!
    -i think a bike, roller skates or a motorbike would be a great addition for the option to move faster around the map. Bonus points if it’s actually really fun to move with them (think sound design or other characters reacting to you rolling their way, pushing them out the way)! Fast travel is okay, but fun movement really takes travel to the next level.

    Nice job man!
    I've had this idea of creating a cook-related game for a while, mostly daydreaming, the game would have cooking mechanics included but is not the focus, the goal is about making a pleasant experience, create dishes in-game that are so beautiful that it makes you want to cook in real life, discover real life ingredients and their use cases, adding some nutritional info but not in a bloated way, add quests/minigames for rare ingredients...
    I'm studying software engineering but game development isn't in my plans, maybe one day!
    Btw, I love the new sprites for the dishes and the overall graphics!
    I'm hyped to play your game, good luck in your journey!

    I'm curious about your sound design. Its a really beautiful game visually and I reckon if you had robust sounds it would amp it up. Such as environmentally sounds in the cities and forests or the sounds of the kitchen. The sounds of crowds growing in a restaurant could add a lot to the atmosphere. I'm not sure if you've already implemented a good sound system but just some thoughts.

    • @PixelArchitect
      @PixelArchitect  Před 2 lety +3

      We have some basic sound effects, and will be implementing a proper sound system in a couple months once the finished music starts to roll in. Unity already has a great 3D sound system (sounds are quieter if the object is further away from you). You are right that the busy areas will need some careful sound design

    You don't have any idea how much this video helped me! I'm an artist from the countryside of Brazil, and my dream is to make my own game. However, I was terrified and didn't even know where to start, since I only know the "art" stuff, but idk anything about coding and scripting. I have the main ideas written out, and I'm starting to learn the #C language, it's very challenging for me. Still, seeing other people having the guts to do an indie game from scratch, it's soooo inspiring and revigorating! Thank you so much for this, just the fact of you creating and putting it out for the world to see, doing this already helps so many people out there who have the same dream.
