Great review, the Viltrox looks like a stunning lens and focal length.

Surprised to hear you complement the Viltrox AF capabilities. I'm also using one on a A6700 and while perfectly fast for and accurate for static objects, I find that it misses focus on moving subjects most of the time, even with the latest firmware.

Have you got the latest Viltrox firmware installed on the lens also? I think it is version 1.04

Can you compare these two lenses on people, e.g. on the street and indoors, and show the minimum distance required for this type of photos ?

First of all... Love your stuff. Very useful.
Secondly, absolutely loving the a6700 with sigma 56mm.
Would you consider making a 'how to make an overhead tutorial video. I really like how you do your presentations. Very impressive.

I have both - thinking should I keep both or sell one. As someone mention, AF of viltrox seems a bit lazy-slow and it happened to me that some photos are not sharp. With sigma it is always sharp. I like bokeh of VIltrox but Sigma have nice compression too and maybe its actually enough.

Have you done a firmware update? And what camera do you use the lenses on? I personally made a firmware update when I got my viltrox and I'm using it on my brand new a6700

    • @noricd

I have both the Viltrox and the Sigma. Both are impeccable in my experience. For me it is worth owning both for taking images of people. I will explain.
The focal length differences are considerable. Due to that, the Viltrox 75 mm at events is invaluable for taking photos from a distance, say five metres away or up to 10. Being an f/1.2 it has me always photographing at events with the usual indoor settings with no need for additional lighting.
As for the Sigma 56 mm, again indoors with no additional or special lighting, I position myself one to two metres away. At that distance people tend to be self-conscious, they can want to pose. (That is less likely at the distance with the Viltrox.) I ask people often to not do so, and I often say “please don’t smile”.
My style for people photography is candid portraiture. The Sigma does a beautiful job, as does the Viltrox. They are different, very different in actual use (and weight) for candid photography of people.

@@noricd I am faced with a purchase decision. I would like to take amateur photos of people, objects, cars, etc. on the street. Which of the two would you recommend more to work with A6700 ?

    • @noricd
      @noricd Před 2 měsíci

@@Sebartus For street photography I would go with the Sigma 18-50 mm f/2.8. You get the benefit of the wide 18 mm taking in entire cars and buildings and street scenes. It is super light and sufficiently light. Being zoom is very helpful on streets.
On streets the Sigma 56 mm would not be my current choice, I say that with caution as I seem to have made limited use of the 56 on streets. Still when I used it at night on streets it was quite lovely. Can suit others for sure.
I have used the Viltrox 75 mm on one major street shoot, and it was glorious. The extra distance permitted quietly capturing people acting naturally. Like the Sigma 56 mm the light fall off from surfaces (faces, clothing, objects etc) is delicious.
For all these reasons I’m keeping and admiring both the 56 and the 75 but for sheer practicality for dedicated street and travel the Sigma 18-50 is my preference. It will be the lens I will lend to my son for his upcoming December trip to Italy. I would not dream giving the heavy 75 mm to go with, simply too bulky and heavy for extended day after day street photography.
