We have a sea of comedians on this platform known as influencers. Explaining the joke is peak comedy, or it would seem so with all the reaction videos. Everybody wants in on the discussion
Breaking things down that way can work, it would just seem to work best when you hold the clipboard as opposed to doing a bit. Schneider's career seems to have been being rolled up in the gig economy. It's not really his life's work, showing us the scope of humor. He's usually just the buffoon

One thing i found extra amusing about Tim’s standup is that he’s been working on those “jokes” for over a decade, honing the character at actual standup nights. There are a ton of clips on youtube, it’s a real trip watching them and feeling the pure repetition of it as he develops his anti-timing timing.
I saw him and Gregg Turkington years ago and he was already a master at playing a hack right wing comedian.
Agreed, I think he has been developing the character for years and probably has felt compelled by current events to put these right wing Hollywood types on blast. I mean the OCATC character has gone totally right wing over the last two seasons.
I remember seeing like 3 different versions of Tim's "Coke vs Pepsi" bit on youtube over the years, and I thought each time it was funnier than the last. When I found out he had done a full special I was super pumped, and it didn't disappoint one bit.
@@rpm9693 oh yeah to me this comedy special is part of the on cinema extended universe
@@rpm9693 OCATC is quite possibly the best kept secret in comedy. The trial of Tim Heidecker is its zenith.
It takes alot of charisma and balls to do a set like Tim's becaue you risk the audience not laughing at the intentional bad humor and also thinking that is your actual personality, but he pulled it off.
Stewart Lee has made a career out of doing a similar thing to Tim's "An evening with tim heidecker" special, if you havn't seen any of his specials (or the series he did for the bbc) i'd recommend trying to find them. One of his recurring bits is telling a joke, it not getting a laugh or as much of a laugh as he wanted, then stopping the show to explain the joke to the audience in a patronising manner, scolding them for not getting the joke.
I usually find Tim's comedy doesn't hit for me. Its not that he's never funny, but often his material is somewhere in the land of committing too hard to not going hard enough or just going really hard on something that wasn't interesting enough to go hard on. You're right that not being funny in just the right way that its funny is hard... and I don't think he pulls it off.
@@SolarFlairIsBestPony Thats cool, not everyone has the same sense of humour. Though if you can watch Tim & Eric Awesome Show Great Job and tell me it's just not funny, well then you might have severe unhumoritis. Don't worry though - it's curable.

Tim actually has a really good quote about his special that relates exactly to what you said:
*"It’s a fundamentally funny thing for me. On the surface, [he’s] an entirely narcissistic bully, and then you can play off some really sad, pathetic qualities in that person. I’m glad you picked up on that. It’s woven throughout. One time I discovered that I had heat exhaustion after working in the sun all day with the help of Rob Schneider. While it's true Tim Heidecker doesn't use any overwhelming visuals in his stand-up, it's worth noting that in Tim & Eric, they consistently employ a horrific saturation filter in much the same way that Rob does. The difference, of course, is that part of the joke is how revoltingly orange the characters look; basically, like much of the difference between the two, Tim uses this ironically, where Rob seems completely unaware that he's using it at all
I have memories of my dad telling me about the Rob Schneider "makin' copies" sketch as a kid and thinking it was hilarious. I learned another way to express how comedy is as much about the message, as it is about the delivery.
New to the channel here, thanks for a great video! Sorely disappointed by the lack of fish (dead ones mentioned by bad "comedians" don't count), and slightly tired of non-paradoxical things being labeled as paradoxes (even in a jokey way). But other than that, 10/10, would recommend.
"and the only funny scene in the show is..."
*norm macdonald is on screen*
yeah that tracks
I haven’t seen a piece of fiction that revealed so much about the person that created it since the Onision books.
In second place for that is Ready Player One.

Lemme introduce you guys to Warren Ellis…
Dude, you forgot Doug Walker's The Wall
@@BDCTheSloth90 We all tried to, why would you remind us!?
I just found your channel for the first time, really enjoyed this video. What are some comedians that you would recommend that are looking into the future of comedy? You showed some of them at the end of the video.
Shane Gillis in all his offensiveness will be hosting SNL next saturday! Funny wins!
I like how Tim always wears this outfit when he’s doing this character.
Plot twist: it's not a character, Tim just gets possessed by the vengeful spirit of a boomer comedian that haunts that leather jacket.
Neil Hamburger
I thought you meant the uploader for sec. I'm new here
The Andrew Dice Clay tuxedo
Yeah there are videos of him from 2009 doing this bit and he wears the exact same thing. The only difference is that he hadn’t decided to slick his hair back yet.
Also as much as I hate when ppl downplay the importance of mixed ppl's identities, it's real convenient that now Rob Schneider is complaining about how he has been excluded from Asian roles (he's 1/4 Filipino) when he's spent most of his career mocking Asian ppl and not advocating for his community and instead pushing harmful ableist anti-vax rhetoric.
mocking asian people?
@@gromitpesley 2:32
@@crnkmnky damn. I mean he’d get away with it we’re a comedy but… I don’t think he’s ever been funny
"Anti vax rhetoric" lmao
Bro these woke zealots just need to shut up ands top being annoying. Not everything has to be viewed through the prism of race you psychopathic racist.
Go outside and touch grass.
I think conservatives comedy is awful because the joke is secondary to statement. But also, overly sensitive woke critics, who’ll call a joke homophobic just because the topic is “gay guys”, are just as bad.
Damn, epitome of the left can’t meme.
I was really sad when Tim lost the election. :(
He would have been a great district attorney for San Bernardino county.
I'm also really excited for this video!
I learned Maggie will take a big bite of raw corn, husk and all, just to commit to the bit
I think that's just how she normally eats corn.
Nah she husked the bit she bit into for the bit.
I apologize, I'll see myself out
imagine using someone's personal beliefs in an attempt to hurt them while trying to dissuade others from sharing those beliefs. actually I think there's a word for people like that...
Really good video I keep coming back to it every couple of months
Tim’s special is amazing. It reminds me of growing up watching old Just For Laughs episodes and seeing all the generic leather jacket, blazer wearing “wise guy” comics.
One man is responsible for the death of 20 children. The other is that copy machine guy from snl

I wasn't expecting to remember how much I miss Norm Macdonald by seeing him shit on Rob in his own show
Not that this vindicates him, but Schneider doesn't need to wear "yellowface." His grandmother was from the Philippines. People don't think of him as racially Asian because he's not "culturally" Filipino. Well, neither are Lou Diamond Phillips or Tia Carrere.
Self loathing.
My sister waitressed for Rob Schneider once. She said he grumbled at the menu, only ordered a bowl of soup, and ultimately not only didn’t tip, he even left a little bit less than the check was for!
Rob Schneider truly encapsulates the "I hate my wife" comedy trope.
It's such a boomer joke, but boomers don't seem to like him, either.
...and I'm sure the feeling is mutual.
@@zoyadulzura7490 Hahaha yes, because all tens of millions of boomers are alike.
@@NondescriptMammal - Yeah, nobody uses the word correctly, it's just a proxy for vague ageism. I'm not proud of the fact, but Schneider and his fanbase are Generation X. Which means precisely nothing anyhow.
Release the Schniedecker Cut, Maggie, what are you afraid of! TRUE fans deserve the extended 20% longer corn eating scene! #savemartha
Tim-based anger is best in On Cinema. The show is wild and even though it's a big undertaking to see jokes set up to only get a payoff literal years later, it's so worth it. The Oscar specials or the 'Trial of Tim Heidecker' are some of the best situational comedy I've ever seen.
Great analysis! I was waiting for you to show clips of Tim's show "I think you should leave" which is probably one of the most hilarious shows I've ever seen. That also would've been a good point of contrast.
That is not Tim's show. It's another Tim's show.

Tim Heidecker is easily one of the best comedians of our time. His standup special is fucking hilarious.
that multi year project he did that started as a low budget movie review show that turned into a trial of the murder of his co-host was *chef kiss*
He is, sadly though I think he's starting to lose it. The guy doesn't understand a lot about internet culture. Him thinking Sam Hyde was after him is a great example of that. He thinks Trump jokes means you actually support Trump.
@@TopherBlairMusic lol keep seething you paranoid weirdo.
Tim Heidecker's performance in The Comedy (2012) is a special thing. That film brutally exposes the corrosive and isolating effect of a life drenched in irony. Superb video, Maggie. Cheers!
That movie convinced me Tim Heidecker is an amazing actor.
Boy if you think Schneider is bad, let me introduce you to modern Jim Breuer
Oh man he's fucking brutal to watch now lol.
Schneider’s part in Chuck and Larry was stereotypical and dumb, but I’d argue it wasn’t really yellowface. Dude is part Filipino.

I was sitting here at work, feeling burnt out and sad. Now I'm laughing uncontrollably at Tim's "no salt chips" joke.
