- this was at Jewish Hospital in St Louis and I will have to say I am kinda disappointed. This is the kind of behavior I would expect from a new Schindler, or even a Dover. Not an antique relay controlled Otis. This is also the 3rd elevator problem I have had in the past week. This just came up in my recommended and I remember this was the first lift/elevator video I ever watched on CZcams... How time flies!
a similar problem happened to me in a creepy ass basement. the elevator decided not to react to the calls i was registering, so i had to find my way out through what i would describe as "the depths of hell" in order to return to the street outside

The same thing happened to me at the Parking Garage at the Willow Grove Park Mall. The doors would not shut properly on the 3rd floor, thus preventing the elevator from moving. I spoke with guest services and Otis was immediately notified of the issue.
The same thing happened to me at my apartment on floor 27. The inner doors wouldn’t close all the way preventing it from moving. Then, when I got out of the elevator and pressed the call button, the elevator didn’t respond which means it got stuck on floor 27. Luckily, another elevator responded to the call and I could get out of there because the stair door needed a key to open which I didn’t have.

Watching this is a nightmare for me. It's like when you watch a horror movie. Every time I see the door opening while it's stuck at PH, I want to get into the video and say to the guy "RUUUN! RUUN WHILE YOU CAN!!!".

Yeh seems he was too busy panicking...I have a severe phobia of elevators so I wouldn't dream of going near one unless it was ABSOLUTELY necessary (life or death) I am fascinated by them and feel like a little part of me is conquering that fear by watching from the safety of my home, lol!

That's really interesting! I only wish I could get past my fear, but alas it's highly doubtful. It is a horrible fear that does limit the life you have but I love hearing from others who have had this fear and gotten past it. I salute you, Sir/M'am. :) ps. I subbed your channel ;)

When my father had surgery to fix his back problems, the hospital had these really cool OTIS lifts, and I was little...Now I am 12. I did not think anything of it until I came across this channel. The parking garage had OTIS lifts. Long story short, the lifts were turned into generics. The area where you have like 6 lifts in one room had again OTIS lifts. Only 2 are still original. When you entered one of the old OTIS elevators the doors had a small gap (1-2 mm) and you could see a small sliver of light when you passed a floor. And no, I did NOT get to see the motor room. I think the controller for the OTIS lifts are modernized because it was too smooth, also you could hear the controller beeping.

Being stuck up at a penthouse is better then being stuck in an elevator I tell you. A while ago I got stuck in a Schindler 330a for like 30 min.
I got stuck in one for 5 minutes once and it was enough to where I have a fear of elevators now.

This same thing happened to me on the parking garage elevator at Kemah like 5-6 years back. The elevator went up without a problem then when I tried to go back down it acted just like this elevator. It was really annoying to be exact.

He didn’t use the phone because he wasn’t stuck in the elevator and he was able to leave the elevator and go to a different level so he can get out of the penthouse.
He wasn't stuck inside, the doors opened and he could escape. The problem could have been an interlock (which is a device that locks the elevator doors) or controller (elevator's computer system) that probably failed.

He didn't press the stop button and their was no phone that I could see other than the emergency bell button. When their is an elevator already on the floor another one will not come up. The elevator system assumes that one is already there. He was pushing all buttons hoping it might move to another floor. From watching some of his hotel reviews he works for the railroad. He is an elevator enthusiast. I am not one myself. But, have ridden enough elevators to know a bit about them. I have been stuck in an elevator for over 1/2 hour before so I would kind of freak out if I thought I was stuck on a floor and no way down. If the stair well door had been locked he would have been trapped and would have to keep pressing the emergency bell until someone responded.

This was an interesting experience. I dont know how long i would have been trapped in that attic if the starwell was closed.
I would be in full panic mode myself if that happened to me. As I think I mentioned when my mom was in the hospital with cancer I was trapped for 15 minutes or so myself and earlier in the day I was with a bunch of people and the elevator didn't stop on any of the floors and kept going up. Reached the top floor and was just banging it felt like the roof. I know it wasn't the roof. Everyone was panicking. So, kind of not too much of a fan. That's why I like taking mpe myself with those experiences. I will ride an elevator as long as i'm not alone. If it's 4 flights or less I will walk the stairs.

I think this is one of the reasons they sometimes put elevators in sets like this so if one breaks then theres a backup one on the same controller

@paul9511 The door said "FIRE DOOR" and I'm guessing he was afraid that the door had an alarm. Although an emergency exit door alarm is a local alarm, and using it because the elevator is broken most likely isn't going to get you in trouble. If an employee knows about the elevator being out of order, however, he/she should disable the alarm on the stairway door to avoid disturbing everyone every time someone enters or leaves.
Relay controlled otis elevator dosent give a stuff on where to go as when the elevator door opens it dosent ding until a floor button is pressed in the direction that the arrow chimes

one time we were at a hospital and there were old otis black buttons, the elevator worked fine the first time, then we were on 5 and tried to go back down, but it did the same thing this one did
