- Fluke baits like the Zoom Super Fluke and Super Stud are classic soft plastic lures when fishing for bass and in reality they might be the only lure your need to catch bass at certain times.

My two favorite and most successful baits over my lifetime of fish ... I'm 73 ... is a zoom white or pearl white super fluke and a white Zoom paddle tail. Killers!
Mikey you have Roland level storytelling chops and a hammer. Love it!!
Awesome story Mikey, I could only pray to have a day like that. I did set a goal once to catch a 6lb smallmouth at Table Rock, through many trips and a bunch of trials and errors I managed to get a 6lb 4oz smallie, could not have been happier than that day and will never forget it!!! Tight lines brother!!!
I remember back in the mid 90's I was fishing a local reservoir in upstate NY with a friend of mine. It was August and hot as hell. A storm was moving in that day. We both have short light action Ugly Stick spinning rods with penn reels with 8 lb test mono. We were throwing Bass Assassin white and green soft plastic jerk baits on an EWG hook weightless. Between the two of us we caught 100 largemouth. All a few pounds between 2 and 3 pounds. It was the best day we ever had fishing till this day. We always remember that day. Memories like this will keep you fishing even when there are days you get skunked.
FYI 15% off at Tackle Warehouse and they have scales in stock🤣🤣🤣
love catching them on a weightless fluke especially post spawn while they’re feeding up before heading out deep on gville
It's so cool how you incorporate the classic footage into your current videos, Luv me some fluke fishing. You "are the "coolest" storytellers. Thanks
Love your old vids , for anyone who haven’t seen them should go back and watch them they would really enjoy them. You were kicking ass . Thanks for sharing.
I found the same set up on lake Okeechobee last Saturday 75yard brim bed right off the main lake in a boat lane I sat in the same spot for over a hour with a frog and hammered them it was awesome
That's a fantastic story bro. You are definitely a quality stick for sure. Thank you for sharing this story and continuing to share a wealth of info for all of us slackers.
I can tell this achievement still means a lot to you. Appreciate you sharing. Have you ever told the story of how/when you got Bog? Has he always liked going on the boat?
will do that's a good one.
Great story Mikee! Thanks for sharing!! I know how those milestones feel!
It was fun listening to you talk about your Okeechobee experience. I appreciate you sharing it.
Fantastic fishing 🎣 great job really enjoyed this 👍 Thank you for sharing 👍
Great vid Mike! Love hearing you talk and your excitement is contagious! Keep mixing it up!
Thanks Jack wish u could've seen the lake then that place was out of control
That's a great story. I got an alligator/bass fishing story. So, I had access to an epic Florida ranch pond. This thing was great, about 25 acres so plenty big enough for big ones and big numbers. Once, I caught a 5. 6, 7, 8, and 9 pounder, but that's not my story. There was a gator in the lake that we called The Battleship, due to his size he was 12ft all day, maybe bigger, and the straight up boss of the pond. This one corner of the lake had willow tree sand bar that hooked out from shore, so you could cast to it and work the edge l like you were picking apart a bank. The treed sandbar met up with the bank and created like a corner. So I'm on the waters edge and fishing for about 20 minutes and I've caught one or two. Standing in the same spot. When I hook the third and I'm reeling it in, when The Battleship surfaced 15ft in front of where I stood. The water was dingy so you couldn't see the bottom, but that beast had to be laying on the bottom right there the whole freaking time, because that sandbar would have blocked him from slipping up on me. He was so close and so big I could hear the water wash off his back. Nothing came of it he just eased off, but my breath was absolutely taken away, and I've lived in Florida my whole life, so gators are just part of it. That one skipped my heart though, good times. Side note I caught a 10 pounder on a beetle spin in that lake. I considerate my greatest angling feet, because it was a miracle to land her on a bait so small and flimsy. The beetle spin was totally inoperable after that as you could imagine.
I have seen most if not all of your videos. By any metric this is your best!!
That’s a great story Mikey!! The video is cool. Thanks man, catch you soon
Love your videos and stories you share. Thanks for everything buddy
I really appreciate you tuning in Neil thanks for the nice words 👊
My dude. Love your videos. The fluke is my favorite go to.
Thanks Tommy!
this was outstanding. great narrative
Lots of respect for you bro!! Been bass fishen my whole life, I always learn something from your vids homie, keep it up podnah!
A great well told story. Thanks.
Awesome, thanks for sharing!
The fluke and the Senkos are the OGs that always work!
Awesome story my brother.
You're a well known, and highly respected angler, and you've helped thousands of people learn how to catch more, and bigger bass, so who's laughing now? Right?
Keep up the great work Mikey ✌️
Love throwing the double fluke. Sometimes I catch doubles but two six pounders may be a problem lol
That's great rig in saltwater too
I fish salt water when I visit my boy. Might have to try it.
@@rangerbull where does your boy live? It works well sea trout if it's one of the gulf coast states.
He lives in marathon on a canal about 200 yards from the Atlantic, and there is Vaca cut around the corner to the gulf side.
@@rangerbull it would work great on chicken dolphin just maybe run them on 1/4 or 3/8 ounce jig heads.
I have 2....smallmouth over 20 inches which in southern Ohio river and creek system is very hard to do. Then 80 inches in my wading tournament on a 5 fish limit. All creek small jaws baby.
Dude it is so weird seeing that old footage and not seeing Bog my boy! I love that dog, he is by far the most popular bass fishing dog ever! But i definitely understand when its super hot out you don't want him with you because he would roast! Good call!
I had no clue what I was doing. I tied on a top water lure and as soon as it hit the water an 18 LMB attached it.
This was my first throw of a top water lure ever in my life.
My knees were just shaking. It was my PB at the time. I will never forget it. I have never used that lure again because I don’t want to loose it.
I love a good fishin' story! Got my beer, and got my popcorn! Most guys you think are full of BS, but you have the video proof!
🤣 old school standard def video but video all the same.
Duuuude, such a cool story 👊😎 Keep em comin 😁
I was fishing a club tournament back in the 80's. as a coangler On Toledo bend, Been fishing for about 3 hrs and no bites, then in 30mins. I had 15.65 with 5 fish just like that. Best 30 mins of fishing in my life .
The fluke is possibly one of the most versatile baits ever made-I was using Bass Assassins before the fluke came out, for reds/seatrout/bass. Flukes are way better designed imo
On the money Mikey!!!!!!! I will be at Okeechobee for the BFL Super tournament in a few weeks and always throw it in the summer. One of my favorite baits !!!!!!!!!!!!
Nice video. Glad you had camera back n the day
The Zoom Fluke in pearl used to be my confidence bait. Threw it all year long, but took a break from it and can't seem to reproduce the success I used to have. I loved the visual aspect of fluke fishing though. When you set the hook without even feeling the bite. Something about it 😁
Awesome story, Mikey!
Thanks for the story Mike. Freakin awesome
Classics brought to you by Mike Ballzz
I enjoyed all of your videos mainly because it was all Florida fishing at one time
Thanks again
So apparently you have never owned a scale, and what was up with the wig? 😁.....nice fish!
5:00 My favorite catches have been the same sight fishing a pod hunting. Seeing them swarm the lure and get a perfectly timed hookset. Make its feel like a hunt for them more then just a catch.
Killer story Mikey B! I hope one day to be a 1/2 that fortunate! Tight lines bro’!
Great story of the OG Dirty 30!
Sssshhhhhh! Flukes are my confidence lure. Had a buddy move up to Kentucky from Florida. He'd saw me walking to the local fishing hole multiple times. One day he asked if I'd like to go with him. Back then all I knew was a spinnerbait, pop-r, or brush hog. He showed me how to fish the fluke Texas rigged one a gama 4/0 ewg, like alot Florida natives do. Been my go to in any nasty water I fish. Or any time there's alot of fry or shad in or around
Great story! Keep on keepin on. :)
White colored flukes have been good for me. Living in Wisconsin makes a 30lb bag pretty impossible for a day of fishing. Sweet video man!!!
congratulations brother great history thanks 👏👏👏👏👏
Good story. Good net work.
Thanks for sharing
Excellent!
Truly believe a fluke style bait is the most versatile bait you can use. It can be worked like a topwater, subsurface jerkbait, through vegetation like a frog, dead stick it like a senko style bait, weighted or unweighted, etc. It truly is a do it all bait.
Your impression of an alligator was freaking awesome 😆😆
Epic bag!
My pb is 5lber i caught on a fluke in shallow water. It’s my go to bait no matter what the conditions are.
Great story with some awesome instruction. Who could ask for anything more?
You should totally run storytime at the public library and read to kids.
I have some of those flukes that written but they work pretty good for us for bass
Hey bro !! I used to fish in small tournaments in south Ga with I buddy that I work with ( Joe ISmith) when I tell ya he had the it factor as far as catching more 10 lb + bass than anyone I’ve ever fished with!He probably caught 20 plus bass in the early 1990s to mid 90s and then his son started fishing tournaments with him! Well I tried to talk him into going all out and become a professional legend but he didn’t! But he has become a legend in south ga and north fl in club tournaments! One of their club tournaments at LAKE JACKSON in Tallahassee ..his son Chris and him in a 3 fish tournament… weighed in 24 or 25 lbs ! Over the past 40 years of fishing his home lake you could say Rays Mill pond in Ray City Ga he has probably taking over 100 over 10 lbs… his biggest a 13 lb 12 oz giant is still in the cafe restaurant which is right beside the ramp to enter the lake !! He has taking other 13s and 12s in almost every lake he has fished ! I said all of this to let you know I’ve followed you from the time that biggen almost snatched your little tail off back of the John boat in north Florida! Not sure which lake that was! But if there was a chance some how for you to fish with him and him with you !! It would be cool !! You 2 are my favorite big bass legends!! Keep up the good vids ! Ps I would also love to fish with ya anytime ! Main when I say he’s a bad dude .. he has caught many fish in tournaments over 8 lbs !! And like you he doesn’t fish a lot of tournaments anymore but you dudes are the ole Nelly to me! Tight lines bro!
bro that guys sounds like a straight up hammer!
That was a great story ,Glad you got your 30 and that gator didn't bother you 😮
Yeah man that taught me to look for him on the bottom during the summer I had no idea they laid around like that
Mikey those videos of you and your Tracker are what started my traveling to Roland Martin’s every winter since 2013. I learned a lot about Okeechobee from your earlier vids thanks bud. Plus winters in Clewiston are much nicer than in Maryland. Take care bud and stay safe.
That's pretty cool man! That lake during that window was absolutely stellar!
@@mikeybalzz yea she’s kinda went down hill the last several years but winters down there sure sweet and I still catch a lot more fish than I would staying home.
@@johnhall3860 it's still an epic place man, ramon was telling me it took 37lbs a month ago to win the Roland Martin Marine SEries Challenge!
@@mikeybalzz I heard same thing looking forward to this January. Everything I pretty much no about fishing Florida and especially Okeechobee I credit to you bud. Keep the vids coming man I definitely look forward to seeing them.
Love the old video. But most of all I love the outfit and the hair. Uve come a long way man. Keep it up
Thx man 👊
Sweet story!👏👏👍👍
Great story more like this!!!
Look at you! A beefy 130lbs and a full head of hair and killing it!! I rep a tracker also lol!
Can never go wrong with a fluke. Just had some colors, mix together over time in my tackle. It made combos like white and purple.
i love when accidents like that happen!
@@mikeybalzz They're really cool. Maybe next year I'll do it on purpose haha.
Still a 8lb bag, for me. I get it goin and cull a .1 ,or 1 big,and no chunks to fill it out. Im trying to get it firing on all cylinders. But some.days not even 5 fish. But we all got goals .my goal every time is 6 bites, and to convert 5, and try for the kicker fish off some big bait.
50* air temp, 43* water, 15-20 mph winds, 1st time throwing a chatter bait and i caught 27 bass in 2 hrs. all within a 50 foot circle... in a canoe lol. ill never forget that day.
Awesome Mikey! As always you put out some great juice.
Hey what’s up with Halo’s new frog rod? The BB Frog Rod @American Baitworks. Have you tried it yet? ❤️🇺🇸🦅
Siiiiick
Man really enjoyed the shows never caught a bag like that thanks for sharing
I believe it I GREW UP IN port st.lucie in the 80s me and my best friend caught 100 bass in C23 canal
Dude I never thought you'd be one of them special membership people!!? When Taactical Bassin does this im done!!
Dude its an option so I turned it on if somebody wants to throw some loot in to help with gas and help to make more content it's much appreciated if not it is what it is. Not going to apologize for that.
@@mikeybalzz I get that
I love the vids from your unabomber days.
Thanks Mikey for cool story ..a fluke is definitely my top bait coming up for the fall. Last year i got into using jerkbaits on medium light BFS setup and its so much fun fighting the bass for several minutes instead of power fishing pulling them up in 5 seconds like im used to.
What BFS setup do you have? I want to get into it. Especially for flukes, but I'm weary about trying the Kastking BFS reels.
@@FreedomFishing i have every bfs reelmade pretty much start with the kastking zephyr or the seranoya Dark Wolf there the best for the price i promise you.. Dont do what i did and buy the expensive first those 2 are just as good
@@travisbruno5964 I appreciate your insight! Is the zephyr and zephyr clicker the same thing minus the clicking of the drag star?
@@FreedomFishing get the one with the clicker its newer and all it is, when the fish pull drag it clicks. Its a drag clicker. My favorite part about BFS reels is that noise
A fluke my be my most favorite bait to fish with, you can fish it like a Texas rig, swim it, and fish it topeater
Good stuff Mike. I want to get a friend started on fluke fishing and, he's in Florida on the Gulf Coast side. He's fishing lakes. I've read where in Florida Blue black or black blue is the color they like down there. Is this true? If not, can you give me a couple of colors to use down there with the fluke? Thanks!
That's awesome! Sill after my dirty 30
Dude. You’re an absolute stick but your stories are epic. Whether you’re explaining a bait or a technique or it’s something like this you’re a master storyteller…
Really enjoy your videos Mikey. Is there anything in your book that’s essential when rigging a fluke? I could only wish for a 30lb day….nice job and great story! My story is about a fish of a 1000 casts, the iconic Musky. One day in late July I caught my first Muskie at 42”. That was good enough for me but then I got two more the same day! I watched one of them follow my chatter bait all the way back to the boat before the ambush…. scared the livin day lights out of me! Im happy I got my Muskie, but bass fishing is just fine with me. Thanks!
biggest thing to me is running it on the braid to flouro leader - i think hookups and the action you get out of it are just so much better. and bro you caught 2 fish of a thousand casts in one day that's pretty sweet!!!
Fluke for smallmouth and largemouth are my confidence soft plastic to be honest. From 3.5 inch to 5 inch
Nice. Where's Bog? A Fluke is always tied on.
past 5 years all i have fished is a fluke and ive caught the biggest fish of my life
If you hadn't got it on video, I wouldn't believe it. Cause we know you didn't have a scale in the boat. 😆
Got a four pounder today sneaking up on a ledge and tossing the fluke. Had to be subtle since he was less then 10 ft away
Good stuff Mikey..... what is your go to fluke?
Either that super stud by gambler or your classic zoom fluke. Bass assassin makes a killer magnum fluke as well
Never caught 30-40lb bag in my life........ that's why I watch ur vids.
I like using flukes for flounders
Considering I’ve never broken 5 for 15, that’s freaking awesome
I caught 3 fish on 3 cast the other day on a shaky head.
I remember going out and not catching anything, no wait, that happens all the time.
🐟🤙
F¥€kin A Balzz! That’s a great story man, you need to to some guide work, if you don’t already, Who wouldn’t pay for some of that action!
Like an elephant, a fisherman never forgets!!
Hey Bog!
I'll give him a pat for ya
Great story Mikey. Where was swimsuit girl?
I watch balz religiously lol
Where is he at ?
It made me who I am today
I remember that video from way back . I’ve been slaughtering them with flukes ever since
never forget the hair and the outfit
Never caught a damn thing on a fluke
