Coming from a background in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Poirier joined prominent MMA gym American Top Team in 2012, sharpening his boxing with former NABF champion Dyah Davis. As a result, Poirier developed a more intelligent style of pressure fighting, based on a cross-armed guard that allows him to throw tight combinations. Poirier is currently scheduled to fight Justin Gaethje at UFC 291.

Find it interesting how unwell rounded alot of ufc fighters are even after training for so many years at the highest level. Dustin loves to box, he should have been a boxer.
To be fair, Dustin comes from a era of mma fighters that loved to specialize. Not like the todays up and coming fighters where they are all well rounded. Funny thing is when Dustin was coming up, he was considered a grappler. His boxing only really started to come together after Conor koed him. I mean if Dustin wants to prove he can get a title mainly through boxing who to stop him except a few rear naked chokes? But to be honest, Dustin is only lost to at the time current champions in last 7 years and beaten a shit load of former champs so I guess it does work
There will always be specialized fighters. I mean he is still an amazing grappler. By your logic khabib should have been a wrestler.
