How to descale the LavAzza Classy Plus coffee machine!

  • Lavazza coffee makers require occasional descaling. The machine will let you know when it’s time! The descaling icon will light up. I do not recommend using a vinegar solution to the scale; these machines are an investment, and I’m not sure whether or not that will work. this process takes about 25 minutes and it definitely got rid of a lot of buildup inside my machine!
    I found the Lavazza discounting solution on the Lavazza website. There is also an Amazon page for Lavazza.

    This was an excellent video. I am on vacation and did not bring my book and my Lavazza kept acting up and I found you on here and it was so very helpful. I did have one small problem and that when I was supposedly done the scaling. I still had a little bit of solution soap in the last bit of the water coming through so I did just run more water through again.

    My descaling light just turned on for the first time after 1.5 years of use. I brew about 3 times per week.
    The jugs of liquid that dripped out of my descaling cycle (with Urnex citric solution) was clear & free of debris. Also, my machine had been running fine before & after the descale light turned on. No clog, no odd noise, no flow reduction, no issue.
    I think my machine may be fairly clean due to me running a brew of clear water after every brew of coffee, so it rinses out the coffee residue in the interior tubes and frother wand. I also use filtered water.
    I'm a clean freak. I'm bothered by coffee residue & minerals collecting in the tubes which leads to clogs & bacterial growth. I keep the capsule loading handle up when not in use, so water droplets inside can evaporate. Trapped moisture breeds mold. Moisture is unavoidable in the used capsule drawer, so airflow in the capsule brewing chamber is a must. If dust gets in, no problem. Bit of dust is better than mold growing in the brewing chamber.

    • @jillymoochgrooms
      @jillymoochgrooms  Před 2 měsíci

      I leave mine up as well and the capsule chamber empty and I run my frother in the dishwasher daily. I also use filtered water, but I use mine daily-just once daily, but I don’t want any bacterial growth either!

    So, I couldn't find any lavazza cleaner on line so I ordered Urnex descaler. It came last night and I did the cleaning this morning. The bottle says to use half (4oz), which I did, then followed your instructions. The machine doesn't always play well, so I recommend following your video I structions, not so much the manual. The process was easy but I suspect the Urnex solution was too weak and I would use a full bottle instead next time.
    Job done, back to fun stuff, and thank you again.

    • @loralex
      @loralex Před 10 měsíci +2

      The amount of coffee can be changed.....evidently in yours is not set properly....do this. Use a new pod and push the espresso button but KEEP it pressed. Machine will start brewing coffee. once you reached the amount of coffee you like REMOVE your finger from the button you pressed. The new setting will be memorized and you won't have to do it again unless you want to change the amounf of coffee. Do the same for the lungo where obviously you will keep it pressed a little longer.

  • @loralex
    @loralex Před 10 měsíci +2

    I beleive there's a small mistake on the amount of water to use. The bottle of descaler is about 8oz (8.4 to be precise) and you should put the same amount of water, so another 8.4oz, not fill up the whole tank. Check user manual page 16. edit: also the cycle ended at 11:10 when the descaling light went off

    • @jillymoochgrooms
      @jillymoochgrooms  Před 10 měsíci +2

      I read directly from the manual. And, yes, I realize it ended a little sooner than I thought. Thank you! But the manual told me to fill up the entire water bucket because it runs multiple cycles.

      @@jillymoochgrooms youtube removed my post because of the link of the manual....bah...anyway. yeah the manual I have from lavazzausa only states what I said earlier. It wouldn't be a big deal but too much water you lose the benefit of the descaler and that would be 12 bucks wasted :)

      My manual says the same thing. I use the Durgol Swiss descaler that is 4.2 oz each little bottle. I have to use 2 bottles and fill both with water and dump all in tank. I saw somewhere this brand is associated or something and these are easy to get on Amazon.

    Hey buddy, how much liquid is in your empty coffee pod receptacle after use. I have about a tablespoon and a half of liquid after use.

    • @jillymoochgrooms
      @jillymoochgrooms  Před rokem

      Yes, I get some liquid in the bin, too; I notice when it’s full and I drain it before dumping it out but it’s not a ton. I haven’t checked after each use, I’ll do that and see. I’ve seen some reviews about this issue but it doesn’t really affect the coffee itself so I don’t really mind. I’ll check tomorrow and let you know how much after a single brew.

      Then you may not have finished the cycle, or if so, then unplug for 15 minutes to reset. But it sounds like you haven’t finished the cycle. You may need to add another round of water. The machine should take itself out of descaling mode when it’s done.
