    Scottie's an example of why it's important to remain quiet and calm until you can figure stuff out. He IMO needs a therapist to sort through some things. Also, Gil's wrong about Grant. Grant started getting REAL salty in the early 90s when his brother Harvey started scoring a bunch of points, albeit on a bad team. He thought with Chicago he'd never get a chance to 'shine' like his brother did with Jordan there. And when he left he was a free-agent, it wasn't a trade.

Should I remind Gilbert that at 2001, he was a 19 yr old rookie while John Stockton was a 39 yr old veteran who was into his 18th season in the league.
    Arenas is not too smart for telling everyone he smoked John Stockton, as if that is due to the evolution of the players from a younger generation, but rather it was simply a case of a 19 yr old rookie being more physically capable than a 39 yr old vet, who is nearing the end of his career.

    • @Marco.of.Substance
      @Marco.of.Substance Před 9 dny

      @@orlandohenderson2185 Question; Have ever seen John Stockton play live or lived during that time to understand how basketball was played then? Bringing up Steph is ridiculous. It is two different eras with different sets of rules. Two completely different players. As phenomenonal as Steph is, if you put him in that era where he would get hit every game coming off those screens or going to the basket, his shooting percentage would be lower. I'm not saying he would be a scrub, I'm saying his shooting percentage would simply be lower. He would get touched up nightly. Look what Bruce Bowen did to the great Steve Nash in the playoffs in the early 2000s. I'm not saying Nash is Curry but there games are similar. Back to Stockton, touch fouls did not exist much back then. Flagrant fouls today were regular fouls back in the 90s. When you went to the basket you had big 4s and 5s waiting for you and they did not look like Chet Holmgren. No disrespect to him. You got clobbered. Go through that for 82 games and it will wear you down. Modern players don't have to go through it.
      I can give you a basic example. Put aside Stockton and Curry. You personally could be a decent basketball player. I play you one-on-one in 10 games. 5 of those games I am allowed to physically hit you and the others I can't touch you. Wouldn't you say in the games that I could hit you, your chances of scoring would decrease? You might beat me all 10 games but your shooting percentage would be lower in the games that I could hit you. Isn't that fair to say?
      Two different eras. All across the board, shooting percentages and scoring are way up. Not just Curry and LeBron. There are role players today averaging 20ppg. Do you know how hard it was to average 20ppg in decades past? Chris Webber, KG, Pippen averaged that in their primes. When teams are scoring 130pts you know something is up. Before you take a slight at Stockton, do your homework. He did not look it with the 1970s haircut and short shorts, but he was a beast. He set hard screens to weaken his opponents, destroyed you on the fast break, wore you out defensively, a master of the pick and roll, and ball movement. Gary Payton Sr. said Stockton was his hardest assignment and I believe him.

    The crazy thing is that MJ never said Scotty wasn’t great or that he didn’t need him. I watched their careers, loved the 90s NBA, watched the documentary and the thought NEVER crossed my mind that Scotty and the others weren’t important or good. I always knew Scotty was one of the best, too. How did I know that and why did I think that if MJ said the opposite, since I’m an MJ fan?
    It’s because he didn’t. What he claimed in the documentary, and what I could sense in the 90s, is that MJ was the source of the maniacal motivation/drive. What is controversial about that? Nothing. 99.9% of people don’t have that, and there are plenty of drawbacks to it when someone does have it, which is something many people including Scotty and others have been willing to talk about freely withoutMJ crying about it. That’s bc it’s true. MJ fans know that. Human beings know the people right around uber- achievers suffer AND benefit. It’s a nothing burger.

      There's no winning for Scottie so I'd agree he just needs to move on. However I completely disagree with it being a nothing-burger. There's a reason why one of the most successful teams in sports history won't even speak with each other and I'll never buy that it was because Jordan was "mean". We're talking about professionals, every single one of those guys were driven and competitive. In my opinion Jordan is an egomaniac who has no interest in anything other than perserving a legacy. It's portrayed perfectly with how he treats the media. You critique him, and he'll never speak to you again. You think he does that because he's really that competitive? lol or could it be his way of controlling the narrative? Just think about it, how can you achieve the heights of basketball media without having access to Michael? Therefore you're forced to never critique the man. Personally the same kind of energy was prevalent throughout the entire documentary. Yeah he never said he didn't need them, that'd be too controversial. Instead he makes blakent statements but never specifically describes how his teammates supported him and made him better. There's never any true love, and it ultimately ends with how he made them better.

      @@jacetiller3156 The Last Dance describes the importance of Longley, and how he helped the team win. And if I recall correctly, also the shooters like Kerr and Paxson.
      But MJ joined the Bulls years before the others, and the narrative is, MJ made the Bulls a winning team over years of building. So, the teammates literally weren't with the team yet, to support MJ in the 80's. MJ's and Pippen's defense, for instance, is in many aspects identical, which could be a sign, that the narrative is true.
