I'm in the US, 62 years old. I didn't even know who John Farnham was until a few weeks ago. While I was strolling the the LRB videos here I found one that I hadn't heard before "The Other Guy". I had never remembered hearing or seeing the front man. So, I started searching. Now I can't stop listening to the songs that he has sung. I wake up with the songs playing in my head, and go to sleep reluctantly because I have to stop listening. I don't understand why John never made it bigger here in the US. There are so many reasons for someone, or a group not to. But I feel that we are "less" because his voice is not one of our "background" voices. TG for CZcams, or I would never have found this music.

John is 70 now, and I heard him sing all his hits recently in Darwin. He never missed a note. He sang them just like he always did them, pitch perfect. John Farnham is the least recognised and most underappreciated vocalist in the world. Not in Australia, we love him here. But throughout the world, he's mostly unheard of. Shame really. He is one of the best vocalists ever.

The concert I went to in Darwin, where John did all his hits, also featured Darryl earlier in the night. Darryl had lost it. He couldn't reach the high note anymore, and, to be honest, it wasn't a good performance, very sad to see. I didn't appreciate John Farnham until about the nineties. And I can now truly appreciate just what a pronominal vocalist he was. I was a pretty fair vocalist myself - now in my 60s. But yes, back in the day, Braithwaite was pretty good.
Well for the right price , I can record the part where they bust out " that's freedom and blast it on loud speaker ( crisp bass ) and follow you around , but for the right price of course , say $75 per hour 😁

Yep.... I remember hearing this song played on 2WS & Mix106.5 quite alot in the 80s & 90s. Memories of Sydney from what it used to be when I hear this song. If I was on the F3 heading north for a weekend or on the Hume heading to the snow..... "That's Freedom" was so euphoric to hear.

It makes me think we should all strive to live in a world without corruption in government. We start by removing corruption from ourselves. Hard? Yes, but what isn't hard? If life was easy it wouldn't be special. I believe we can do it and a positive attitude despite adversity is important. This song reminds you that there is an awesome aspect to life that we can all experience and that's what we should be striving for. Anything less is a let down to yourself and anything you value in life.
Heck of a singer but if you want to give credit to the lyrics do it to the original, Tom Kimmel. That despite being the writer of this song,and one hell of a singer too has only 1/10 of the views.
I agree.. I seem to flow in and out of this mindset as I process which I experience as my normal. Its always a journey and at times , especially in the past I really struggled to see the fairness in life. Thankfully If you allow , as you have mentioned the universe will always provide you with that perfect moment of reflection which offers a beautiful new perspective ( growth) In that moment I smile whilst shaking my head at myself thinking “ how did I forget that I would be lead back to this happy balanced place once again !”😊
I think the song is probably intentionally political, but to release it with a video as a political message would have been career suicide, and so the Visuals were intentionally twisted to show a ‘romance’ so as to not show favour to any side of politics?
Yesterday 12/02/22 I heard this song play at the Freedom March in Canberra. It was Australia's largest ever protest and I was right near the speakers to hear it for the first time. It's a great song but John Farnham has to open his mind

Such a shame he decided not to continue promoting his music outside Australia from the late 80s onwards. Most people outside Australia (I'm in Ireland) only know "You're the voice". Almost 12 years to found this song, I hear on a bus trip in 2004, hear other times but never was able to remember the lyrics to search, some days ago they say the song's name on the radio. Finally.
First time I have ever heard this song, and now I am ashamed that I never heard of John Farnham until June 18th, 2016.
