    I had two NGK Coilpacks fail on my Audi within 1 year. I replaced all of them with Denso. About 4 years later they are still running strong. I got both NGK and Denso at Rock Auto.

      Just picked up a brand new set of Denso pencil coils to replace the Eldor units. Will be installing BKR8EIX spark plugs as well 👏🏽

    The best way to test coils with an ohm meter is to hitch them up and hit the coil with a heat gun. The resistance should go up slightly, bad coils will go open or close to short circuit.

    You do a great job of digging way deeper than others. Most probably don't care but alot do including me.
    Very entertaining and informative.

    Couple ohms either way is insignificant. You aren’t testing in any way that will tell you anything except whether the windings are open or not. Most significant is whether the insulation is breaking down under load from heat or vibration. What quality is the wire that makes up the winding. Etc and so on.

    @roderickroderick7216 Před 2 lety +5

    You have to check the PRIMARY and SECONDARY windings...

    Really great video and commentary, and there is already good and accurate comments.. I agree that the 390 ohm coils are all the same the only difference are the Bosch coils at 403ohms.. remember like already commented, you’re basically only doing a continuity check under zero load, I would suspect that the coils at 390 wouldn’t translate into any noticeable power to the plugs, and same for the Bosch coils given 12 more ohms of impedance.. the Bosch might have different gauge copper? I agree coils should be PM’d along with plugs but the plugs are the true test of power transfer to the combustion.. based on your investigation into all those coils I’m not suspecting any noticeable difference in performance under a stock 2.0tfsi .. but awesome content I always look forward to your tutorials 👍🏻👍🏻

    Would Like to see the guys who cut boots un half do these? Haha. Anyways, love the video. Would like to see if the R8s are consistent 4.04 as compared to the bosch gray tops. I bet they're the same on the inside.

    I wonder if there is a more accurate way of testing them. And the lower resistance coil packs should actually give a hotter spark which should give a better chance for all the hydrocarbons to burn in the combustion chamber

    043 just came out with coils that are definitely different. They have a heat sync on top🤷‍♂️

    Naptown, curious if you could make a video on the "differences" between the 2.0 liters in the Audi TT vs TTS. Are there actual differences or just engine flashes? (I'm sure this also probably applies to the A3/A4 and S3/S4 but not sure)

    Resistance, ohms, is just going to show continuity, shorts, gauge of the wire, maybe wire quality? Could you set up something to feed in 12v at 2+ kHz and check the max length of the spark? Not sure if there's a better way to compare the power, but spark length would show the voltage, at least? Maybe other things, e.g. big fat blue 1/2" spark from the Bosch coil vs thin yellow 1/2" spark from the china ones?

    Hands down the red oem R8 coils have better longevity than the oem black coils. I went through 3 sets of the oem black in my a4 and when I switched to the red R8's I had no problems. The red are heavier because they are also longer and stick out of your valve cover a bit. ECS Tuning sells an adapter but I opted out of it and just let er buck!

      The red "R8" coils also come in black. The shorter coils from the 1.8T are different coils, and yes, the longer coils will outlast the shorter ones.

    I was going to ask how long we should run these coils..iv got a 2014 passat with the 1.8 tsi wolfsburg edish...got 100,000 on the clock..I'm gonna do plugs and coils in the spring..I want to go thru and do a trans service also.
    Be a great video idea if you would show a trans service or even trans replacement maybe

    What about ELDOR? That’s what the dealer offers these days. The OEs on my A4 2.0 TFSI were Bosch.

    Hey not sure if anyone will see this, just bought the Bosch R8 coil pack and NGK PFR7S8EG Platinum spark plugs but came across a video saying these spark plugs have been known to fail? Stock 2014 A4 should I not install them or go for it?

  • @john37694452
    @john37694452 Před 2 lety +1

    Constant voltage is needed throughout the range of rpms, not more voltage. I never understood performance coils, spark plugs is a different story.

  • @kellyx57

    I don't think the 1 or 2 ohm difference is significant. I DO think I'll be going with the Denso coils when I change mine. I'm at 65k on our 2016 Q5. Maybe it's time now.
