Dear Mr. Grey, in response to your question about the Corot painting: I think Corot first painted the color of the shadow on the entire surface of the building and added the highlights after this layer was dry.

Hey!
It's not a bad idea to research why we percieve it like that (The light/shadow contrast in clouds).
Great work, by the way. Very few people can paint clouds like you.

@@PaintingSkies1 you Are great teacher
Hello Janhendrik,
Love your artwork my friend.
You had mentioned in the beginning that you like laying on a thicker layer of paint but it leaves brush strokes when you do it.
I found a product that will eliminate them for you. If your using oils you use a product called penetrol. We use this when we are painting interior doors and crown moldings. It leaves a beautiful finish like it was sprayed . No brush strokes at all. Now if you're using acrylics you can also buy a product called floetrol. Does the same thing as the penetrol. I use them both. It gets amazing results when you are trying to get that beautiful glassy look to the waters surface as it comes onto the beach or on a calm pond surface..
Ok then! Give them a try.. I think you'll find it a great medium to add with your paints..I buy mine at the paint stores for house painting or at your local hardware stores that carry painting supplies..
Good luck, and thanks for sharing your artwork and techniques with us.. 😎✌🌞🌻
Thanks for the advice, Tom. I googled penetrol and it's probably a perfectly good product, but I read that it must not get in contact with your skin and you need gloves and protective glasses to use it. I'm afraid that won't work for me...
Amazing
Thank you!
This made me so happy because when I paint my cat also called Alfons sits with me
Hi Adina, unfortunately Alphone passed away a couple of weeks ago at the age of 15. Miss him.
Awesome 💕 🤗 fantastic
Thank you, Ladybug!
Parabéns! Show!
Muito obrigado!
inspiring work thank you .could you please let us know what board you paint on and how you prepare it
Thank you for your kind words, Wayne. Wrote an article on my blog that answers your question about the board I paint on: paintingcloudskies.blogspot.com/2015/01/canvas-or-board.html.
I just purchased one of your tutorials, thank you for the inspiration, awesome work. Could you please tell me what painting surface you are using and it’s preparation. It could be a good CZcams video for you? Looking forward to my next tutorial. Thanks again and all the best from Colorful Colorado
Thanks JW! I wrote an article about the surface I paint on: paintingcloudskies.blogspot.com/2015/01/canvas-or-board.html. Hope it answers your questions. If not, please send me an email at info@janhendrikdolsma.nl.
Wonderful and life like painting. Would be most grateful if you could allow a download of a shorter version like the one you have for painting the sunset. That was most instructive. Thank you so much anyway. You also have an adorable tabby cat.
Thank you for your kind words. If you want to download the full length video of Painting Storm Clouds, please go to www.paintingskies.com/video. I'll pass on the compliments to my cat.

You are very welcome👍👍
love your paintings. do you paint wet on wet? thank you.
Thank you, Bea! I sometimes paint wet on wet, though not very often. For instance when I want the brush strokes to dissolve in the background. I use a badger hair fan brush to smooth them out.
Brilliant!!! I normally use gouache but I'm trying oils out with liquin on a 14x18 panel. Can you give me any tips on how to outline clouds and the color layer process??? Any help would be appreciated. Cheers
Thanks! In my full length video Painting Clouds by Layering I answer all your questions. Download at www.paintingskies.com/video. The trailer on CZcams: czcams.com/video/XWfTJE8mT6A/video.html. Hope this helps!
Hi, that's a beautiful paintig! If you please tell me what colors do you mix for the dark waters of the ocean? Thanks!
Good to hear you like it. In this painting I used Indigo, mixed with a little Naples yellow. Please note that colors with the same name, but from different brands, can be quite different. The Indigo I use is from Royal Talens. If you want to find out more about this painting, you can download the full length tutorial at www.paintingskies.com/video.
Wooow...👍
Thanks!!

Me gustan mucho sus cuadros de cielos cálidos calmados tranquilos de un tenue sol . Soy Mexicana no se ingles pero con ver es más que suficiente Maestro .
¡Gracias por tu maravilloso cumplido, Isa!
I live in Holland for the next year. Do you ever give or do in person painting lessons?
I'm sorry, I stopped teaching classes a long time ago. You'll have to make do with my tutorials (www.paintingskies.com/video). Hope you enjoy your stay in Holland!
Awesome work Jan. What was the first blue colour called that you put on at the start of the video. I can't find that colour anywhere? Cheers.
Hi Bobby, I'm a bit embarassed. Checked the video and heard myself say that the first blue colour I use is Royal Blue light. I can imagine you couldn't find it. The actual name of the colour is Kings Blue light... My sincere apologies. If you mail me at info@janhendrikdolsma.nl I will send you the full list of clouds and brands I use!
@@PaintingSkies1 thanks for the reply. I was finding the cobalt teal and pthalo blue too dark for what I wanted. Saw your video and that sky colour blew me away! I'll drop you an email when I get the chance. Cheers Jan. Your work is truly inspirational.
Just to check Jan. The colour I was talking about is about 40 seconds in, the bright turquoise blue you first put down.
Great painting. I have to start painting clouds and it is intimidating to say the least. Do I start with the dark colors first or with the lighter?
Thanks, Fleming. You start with the mid tones and slowly build up the darker and the lighter tones from there. If you want to know exactly how it's done, you can download the full length tutorial at www.paintingskies.com/video.
@@PaintingSkies1 Dear Janhendrik. I bought your video on painting clouds and found it very informative. I paint with egg tempera and it's somewhat a different challenge as it is not as pliable as the oil ( I assume it is oil you are using) Egg tempera dries very fast and I still have to figure out how to do do the blending with this medium. I have so far only painted Icons and a couple of landscapes. If I don't hear from you before, then I wish you a nice Christmas and a healthy new year. Warm regards : Flemming
@@FlemmingBehrend Thanks for buying my Painting Clouds video. Good to hear you found it to be informative. I have very little experience in painting in egg tempera. Like you write, it dries fast, which makes it hard to do the smooth gradients that are crucial in my work. You could use egg tempera as underpainting for oils, though. If you have specific questions you can mail me at info@janhendrikdolsma.nl.
Beautiful!!😃💕
Thank you!
I’m only here for the cats
I'll pass the message.
Здорово получилось
Спасибо! очень любезно с вашей стороны!
you have probably been busy. nonetheless, good to see more of your videos.
Thanks Sabi. Yes, I have been busy, a little busier than I anticipated. That's why it took a little longer than planned. Hope it was worth waiting for!
I like
Thanks, Nicodemus!
Love the music and the painting skill. Any excellent artist has a feline apprentice?
Thank you, I will pass your compliment on to the composer. I'm not sure about the answer to your question, but I had cats most of my life. Aphonse (the cat in this video) passed away a couple of years ago. We now have a new cat. She's in my latest video Painting Waves. Really beautiful and fantastic!. I am really impressed and learnt a lot. #Masoodartgalley
Thank you. So good to hear!
7 days? Wow! That’s a two day painting
Hi Jacob. Not sure if I understand you correctly. Do you mean that this painting could be done in two days?
I can't find a source for your reservoir brush here in the US - where are you getting these ? Also - What kind of wood panel do you work on & how do you prep . If you prefer - reference me to one of your 1 hour videos , since I plan to order . Thanks .
forget the prep part - I found your blog reply below .
I get them at my local retailer. They're ceramic brushes actually. Found one web shop where they sell them: www.jacksonsart.com/en-us/jackson-s-red-sable-reservoir-brush-series-91r-size-1. Hope this helps.
Okay, thanks.

I love the trailer and went a head a purchased the full tutorial. However, to my disappointment, the video didn't complete it's download and now I can't seem to find it to try to download it to my computer. I'm hope that Mr. Dosma will be able to help me out.
Sorry for the inconvenience, Susan. I resent the download link to our email address. Hope it works this time.

❤️❤️🙂😊👌
Thanks!
Is this oil or acrylic?...i couldn't hear what was said..i think maybe acrylic?
It's oil!
Every artist must have a cat tohelp.
You're so right, Jeanette!
If you're learning and want too paint realistic storm clouds my suggestion would be to go outside, observe and paint what you see. particularly if you happen to be in Holland which has the most dramatic skies on the planet.
I agree, Alberta, going outside and observing is the way to learn to paint clouds. Done that a lot and (since I live in Holland) got wet in the process as well.
How much does a painting like that cost?
Thanks for your interest, Pietro. if you send me an email with your question at info@janhendrikdolsma.nl, I will gladly give you the price of the painting!
I laughed at loud when you said haven't a clue 😂 why the light from one bulge reflects ans you don't really care lol
Just recently a geography teacher explained to me why some clouds have a flat underside (it has something to do with different temperatures in different layers). Interesting stuff, but on the other hand: I've been painting this phenomenon for years without knowing...
What size is the canvas
70 x 120 cm.

:))
Looks just like my sheva looked
I googled Sheva, but couldn't find a conclusive answer. Could you explain?
Котейка голоден!
Кот всегда был голоден, точнее всегда был голоден, потому что, к сожалению, его уже нет ...
Got no idea how u paint but c everything but posting lesson
