I was there at this tournament. I fished with this guy's amateur partner the day after he was caught cheating. I know how and what went on. The cheater used a flipping stick with a hook tied to the tip of the rod. He then would catch the line and wrap it up around the rod tip with hook and yank like he was setting hook. The line would break from the stump and he had the fish yanked 8nto boat. He cut the line from the mouth and then turned and put it into the live well. Trying to fool his am partner into thinking he caught it legal. Yes his am KNEW what was going on after the 2nd time he did this. But his partner was actually in fear for his life. He was afraid if he said anyting that he may have been drowned are attacked by this guy. He told me this was the worst day of his life that he had ever had sitting in the boat with this desperate cheater. Sad part what's the fish that he was cheating with we're not even big enough to make him a check. He also had sponsorship. His boat had a wrap from Applebee's restaurant on it. I have a lot more detail on this cheater but I'm going to let this go right now with this basic.

Man with on just my local state in Kentucky and some good divisions I’ve stopped fishing because they need to polygraph more..yes I fish tons of tourneys and love bass fishing and still do but it’s kinda shedding more light and even my area we are talking about polygraphs more often..the cost Don smaller circuits is some issue to have a official polygraph and reader there but after my home lake I know 3 been caught ..similar situation but a basket with 4 nice bass in it…about winning weight..same thing a local guru called fish wildlife and the next day the two got caught..shallow murky lake seen one get polygraphed had 5 bass curled that u can tell we’re not from the lake even let alone been dead 10hrs atleast probably..it’s sad and there are good tourneys out there and good groups just watch and stick with what ya trust

He lived right by me, he won everything in our area. We had a fish kill on Truman lake one year and 12-13 pounds would win big tourneys and he would bring in 22 pounds. When I was a kid he was a big deal until he got caught. The dude vanished.

It was so weird growing up and seeing his name and face on everything and then one day he was gone. I’ve heard from someone a long time ago he still works at same golf course and fly remote control helicopters competitively 🤦♂️

I was in this tournament. I remember this guy getting into a Game Wardens truck and being hauled away. We were told he was arrested but they may have dropped the charges. He was casting over his lines and telling his co angler he had to stay on the back deck. He would act like he had a fish on but the fish hung him up, then he would go up to the fish and reach in the water releasing the fish from the line and acting like he caught the fish. We were told he actually weighed in two fish but who knows. If I am not mistaken, I think he was convicted of something but its been so long ago I cant remember. Also we were told he was using like 6lbs test not braid and he would just reach in and break the line and pull the fish up. Stories change over the years but one thing I can say for a fact. This did happen.

I remember the extensive write-up. His co-angler noticed he'd change lures after landing the fish, not stay with one. And each fish was hung up, and he'd block view of landing it. Fish had been caught day (s) earlier and tied to stumps, so need some acting to make it look legit. No jail just lots of fines and a big DQ from tournaments.
Other cheaters....Laundry baskets rigged to look flood debris, but were two ziptied together...there was one underneath
And brick weighted aquariums on Guntersville, At a team derby.
I was in pretty big tournament, regional type event. Fishing on a river system, 95 degrees in July, so weights to win and advance was low. I think on boater side, 12 something lbs. Won tournament. 6 something won co angler side, I was co angler. So on co angler side of you caught 2 fish you where in top 20. So you got to advance to nationals, points for year also, plus pretty good check. Top 40 from each side got paid. So my boater caught 3 , so I'd say total he had like 7 and change, I caught 2, I had lb and half fish, but 2nd fish weighed 3 and half good fish for conditions. We get to weigh in, I go get truck back it down to get boat out water, so I did. Before I got to truck I stopped checked us in, and got 2 weight bags. So we pull boat out, he's in boat I'm, on the ground. I had him 2 bags, and start get in the boat, he says I already got it. And pulls out my fish, already in a weigh in bag. Then takes his bag out, fish already in weigh in bag. He boogies on up to stage, while I'm standing there like wtf is going on here. I weigh in 2 fish for 3 and change. He weighed in almost 10 lbs, and came in like 8th. He switched my bigger, with one his dinks. I made 450$, but look in this series rule book, in bold black letters, it says, boater never touchs the co anglers live well box, and he never touches yours after fish have been put in both boxes. Each angler is responsible for keeping his fish alive, and etc. How he got 2 series weigh in bags I don't know. Just saying ...... cheating goes on in lot ways unfortunately.

Cant even go out bass fishing and enjoy a local lake on the weekends anymore, too many stupid bass tournaments going on.
I got into bass tournament fishing and then out all in the same year due to the cheating and egos. You have half the field that are good people and the other half that would cheat the first chance that they could. I seen a guy in our club wait till everyone else had their fish weighed and then had the scales re-zeroed because the scales clearly where giving a low weight. The issue is everyone else had let their fish go so he had 2-3lbs on everyone for free. This wasn't a new guy but one of the guys on the board. So that was the end of my short bass fishing career.
They got alot of people watching our tournaments here in the Nashville area.
Looks like he received a 6 month suspended sentence, fine, 120 hour community service and lifetime revocation of his fishing license.

You know. I've heard about these kind of things throughout my life. I always kind of thought it was kind of funny. But the older i get i realize how serious it is. Allot of guys put allot of time and money into this tournament fishing and try to support there family's from this. It's a job. I would be really upset especially if i was fishing in the tournaments against these guys that cheat. Knowing you wouldhave won it the cheater didn't win. If you got caught stealing money at a regular 9-5 Job will get fired and probly arrested. Unless you are a politition or a governer ect...lol then it's swept under the rug. But yes these guys need to be made examples of.
This is why I don't bother fishing tournaments.
He needed a good old beat down with a 7’ heavy action casting rod.
Should be stripped of all his winnings, name removed from all records, made to pay back all his earnings. Picture posted at all major fishing events' not forgotten. Make it not so easy for the next cheat.

He actually was arrested by our local LA. DWF on charges of contest fraud in relation to that event.

I caught a guy cheating on Lake Fork. He cut the tail to make it go under 16”. I call the tournament director and told him to keep an eye out for the guy in the photo I sent him. To make a long story short,he failed the lie detector test and was banned from fishing that circuit.
My opposite experience in my very first tournament i witnessed a fish being “stretched”…..
First time seeing one of your videos and I enjoyed the content. Others mentioned the gum and I’m truly amazed that you just laughed it off considering you want viewers. Im not bashing at all and I’m surprised at what a turn off the gum is and even more surprised that you don’t care. I do wish you luck with your channel.

That's what our local tournament trail does it's a once a month tournament with about 110 boats a tournament I legit don't think there is any cheaters in that tournament trail

Makes you wonder. All these consistent anglers who keep winning. But how odd is it that every time they demonstrate some new lure, or plastic they can’t produce a fish.

I am almost 60. Fished a lot boater tournaments. Also many team tournaments. Over the years, I won two large tournaments and placed in the top 10 in several others. I guided for several years. I realized my family would starve if I continued. 🤦🏻♀️🤷🏻♀️ thus I went back to the real world. It has been a few years since I competed. I wonder how many of my top finishes were lost to cheaters. 🫣 I will never know. I remember 3 second place finishes in larger tournaments. That’s a lot of money and two boats difference. It would have made a world of difference!

Here’s the biggest thing I understand that you know more boaters more money, bigger, events, more events! But when you got people that are coming in from out of state, you really don’t know who these people are and you can have somebody in a bass club that you never hear nothing out of them unless they win And honestly clubs should know who they’re dealing with before they let you win it. I think you should have to go through a background check and if there’s anything ever sketchy to where you’re a fucking sneak, where is though you’re a thief, or you’re just a funny fucking person that can’t just enjoy a great day on the water, my thing is this supposed to be something of great motivation and ventures to show your children that a trip on the water could be one of the greatest moments of your life and people say how can being on the water be one of the greatest moments of your life it’s a memory it’s a day that stays marked in your mind for decades, I still remember catching my very first big fish 13 years ago and I had to use a 35 pound motor with four batteries one day in a tournament and I won biggest fish!!!! so I got me a tournament legend bait casting rod and it was a Jirkbaits edition 66 I paid $60 in the tournament and $20 for the biggest fish and I won a $380 rod and I got to fish all day long and enjoy myself and I remember it like I was a little boy that hit a home run to win the game. Take care of everybody.

All these other fisherman are trying so hard and laying there hard money out for tournament fee's and Gary that's like doing it for nothing because of this son of a bitch that's not right. Gary I'm not a tournament angler but I feel really bad for the rest of the anglers who are being honest.

I dont understand how does this make the guy a cheater, he only had one fish that he took into weigh-ins, is it to much to say he did exactlly what the other guy did who hooked it by mistake, unless they watched him plant those fish there.
Here is how you deal with cheating. Easy fix they should put motion cameras in various places on lakes just as hunters do for deer etc without letting anyone know that they have done so.

Cheating has always been and always will be a problem when money is involved. Doesn't matter if it's tournaments or elections. I'm kinda an eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth kinda guy. Anglers should make him wish he hadn't of done that, law enforcement should turn a blind eye.

Nope he was also on a hidden camera set up by DNR. Watching the tied out fish he was guilty and caught red handed. I was there and fished the next day with his am partner

The dude chace the walleye cheater lives in my town. I’ve seen him out mowing his yard. I don’t think it bothers him much. He has been in trouble since then. I heard something he gave his son counterfit money to go bowling. And got caught with that as well. Also got in trouble for domestic abuse to his girlfriend. Dude is no good. Im sure the little trouble from cheating didn’t affect him at all. To bad they didn’t slam him with way more than the slap on the wrist
