Give it up Florio…Holmes has consistently said from day one he believed in Goff and wanted Goff. He was part of drafting him #1 overall in the first place. And that belief has played out to be correct/accurate. And you still want to stick with this “not even Brad Holmes foresaw this” crap.
Yeah brad has been tied with him since scouting, why would these guys think they didn’t want him. They just got as much as they could with the trade so it seemed like he wasn’t wanted

Jesus Christ how many times does Holmes have to say he wanted Goff? Holmes has never waivered on Goff. He scouted him when he was with Rams and was part of the group that drafted him. Holmes saw something in Goff and it’s paid off.

Seriously? Holmes was part of the scouting of Goff. He’s said this multiple times. He IS a genius, he believed in what Goff could do and was smart enough to get a heck of a deal for the trade. And look at what he’s done w/those draft picks. Holmes has said repeatedly Goff was not intended to be a bridge 🙄 and yeah, the QB market is just going to go up.
170 mil guaranteed, 212 mil total. Then add a void year in there in 2029, and the contract hits the cap between $34 mil guaranteed and 42.4 mil per season.
Will go down as one of the best trades in NFL History

Once Goff brings the Lombardi next year, it'll be mentioned with the cowboys herschell walker deal. That deal completely changed the lions organization forever. Built them into one of the elite teams in the league.

Between Detroit accepting him in the playoff game against the Rams and this new contract. Goff will have an even better year than last!
The best offensive lineman is a mobile quarterback. Pressure Goff and you win, you do have to get past the excellent line the Lions have put together though. Year one at Detroit he was real good at dumping the ball in the dirt. Year 3 and he was hanging in to make the throw. Goff is surrounded with a great offense including a running game. Now if Jamo meets expectations they could win the SB!
"Pressure Goff you win" welp that's true for every single QB in the league. Remember how shit patty Mahomes looked on Christmas? Now think about how much the raiders were smacking him around that day. Oh, and Goff had the literal best numbers in the league against the blitz last year. Dudes elite, people just refuse to believe it for some reason. It's like Stafford all over again. He was never mentioned with the big dogs until he went to LA. All of a sudden he's elite.

What bugs me is the Stafford narrative while in Detroit. I watched Stafford in 2014 have a chance to win the North vs. the Packers in the final regular season game. Stafford was outplayed by Packer backup QB Matt Flynn. Period. The Lions lost.
The playoff loss in Dallas happened next. Yes, a flag was warranted on three infractions on that play, but bottom line, Stafford blew it. He threw an interception and lost two fumbles on his own that game in a 24-20 loss.
Don't tell me Stafford didn't have talent around him. Megatron and Golden Tate at WR. Brandon Pettigrew at TE. Reggie Bush, Theo Riddick, and Joquie Bell at running back.
Oh, yeah, plus Stafford had the #2 rated defense in the NFL that year. Suh, Fairley, Ziggy, Levy, Tullock, Van Noy, Glover, Slay, Mathis, and Ihedigbo, plus others.
Jared Goff is earning his money in Detroit by winning the NFC North, winning two playoff games, and leading the Detroit Lions to the NFC Championship games.
Matthew Stafford made hundreds of millions of dollars with the Detroit Lions and accomplished NOTHING in terms of winning.

Some of the talking heads in Detroit (Mike Valenti) are breathless at the money that was given to Goff. Brad has never wavered on his belief in Goff. Goff may not have the absolute top tier talent but he is very good and is an excellent leader. He fits perfectly in Detroit. I can guarantee you that Brad Holmes would never authorize a contract without some protection and flexibility for the Lions. If Goff doesn't live up to the contract in a couple of years, I know Brad will have an exit strategy. This is also why they have Hooker. This contract provides certainty for all parties involved. Time to focus on getting to the Super Bowl.

@patrickscopas9133 I also saw the Woodward Heavyweights talking on it. At the start of the segment, EZ had his head in his hands, turned to smile and just shook his head. Very clearly he showed he wasn't a fan of the huge contract without saying a word.
I suspect it give them their QB for this version of the team, they most likely will need a rebuild in 4 years. The first 2 years probably allows them to do things to win now and it becomes a Dallas and or Denver situation in 2026 where you go forward or start over.
